Speaker 2No, I cannot. No, do you like my socks, they are orange.
Speaker 1Yeah, they're kind of boring.
Speaker 2Yeah, I guess. I mean, you have simpson socks and that's not much more exciting it is mine are bright orange, very pretty wow yeah, well, I like my socks yeah, oh yeah what you gonna do orange.
Speaker 1It's like a fruit. I forgot the name of it, though.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, it's good though.
Speaker 1Yeah, not with chocolate.
Speaker 2Okay, I disagree. I like chocolate with my orange. Yeah, or my orange with my chocolate.
Speaker 1What's the fruit?
Speaker 2called. I think it's a clementine.
Speaker 1Ah, that's it. Maybe, yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2What do you think? I don't know. This is something we have in common.
Speaker 1I'm a pig again.
Speaker 2A pig eater. What, yeah, I'm a pig eater?
Speaker 1Oh God, no. I said I'm a pig again Because I said I have trouble breathing.
Speaker 2Yes.
Speaker 1Can you hear that I'm a little bit under the weather Sweater.
Speaker 2Weather.
Speaker 1That I'm a little bit Not tipsy.
Speaker 2Tipsy.
Speaker 1Yeah, can you hear that?
Speaker 2I hear it.
Speaker 1Yeah, no, I'm a little bit under the weather.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah, I hate my voice. Oh, although I can do that in a world.
Speaker 2You can do that yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah, are you going to punch me?
Speaker 2No, see my hand, yeah, no.
Speaker 1It was really close.
Speaker 2I punched my printer and this is what happened.
Speaker 1Now.
Speaker 2No, it was really close I punched my printer and this is what happened. Now, no when, like Tuesday probably.
Speaker 1Why.
Speaker 2Why? Because I just put my hand down and I happened to punch the printer.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2I don't know what I was doing.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2But I hurt, that's all I know.
Speaker 1Oh.
Speaker 2So the printer got a point there. I did not.
Speaker 1But I have a feeling that the fight's not over.
Speaker 2No, it'll come back.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2It'll get me again.
Speaker 1Yeah, you're going to be the loser.
Speaker 2I am, it's too bad. Yeah, are you ready?
Speaker 1Yeah, all right.
Speaker 2I'm also kind of thirsty, so let's get this started. It's a perfect time. This is the perfect time to Ready. Yeah, no, you missed it.
Speaker 1Sounds good.
Speaker 2Does it though it does, Does it sound good?
Speaker 1Well.
Speaker 2It could probably sound better. It could yeah.
Speaker 1But it's not gonna, not this week.
Speaker 2Not today.
Speaker 1No, I don't think so Are this?
Speaker 2week, not today. No, I don't think so. Are you going to welcome the people? Do you want me to welcome?
Speaker 1Are you going to yeah, and when I do those breathing things I'm not sighing, I'm trying to survive Because I have trouble breathing now.
Speaker 2I have a triple throat.
Under the Weather Chitchat
Speaker 1Yeah, I don't know which one to use. I have a triple throat. Yeah, I don't know which one to use. It's a triple throat, not a triple threat. Hello, yeah, hello, and welcome to Roasty Toasty Ghosty. My name is Matthias.
Speaker 2And I am your best friend, lauren. We sound a little bit weird this week because we both are a little bit under the weather we are experiencing colds at the same time yeah, you started before me though I did. I was getting small symptoms before you yeah so, matthias, yeah for you yeah.
Speaker 1So, matias, yeah, matias yes.
Speaker 2Very important question how are you doing?
Speaker 1I thought you were going to call me Howard.
Speaker 2Howard, how are you doing? Matias, also known as Howard, as your friends like to call you, I believe.
Speaker 1That's a nickname. I don't know. I don't know how you got it.
Speaker 2No, Some people call you Howard. Oh my God, wait, hold on Side note. What if I just start calling you Howard, if I go to like work and start talking to you and I call?
Speaker 1you, howard, instead. Of.
Speaker 2Matthias.
Speaker 1Do you think that people would and ask other people about Howard and they're like who's?
Speaker 2Have you seen Howard today? Like no, who's that? Like oh, there you are, hey Howard, how are you doing? That's funny. Your phone is hilarious.
Speaker 1I should do that. How am I doing?
Speaker 2you asked 15 minutes ago I did two minutes, yeah, maybe I overdrive sometimes you shouldn't be driving at all no, you don't have a license. I don't, so. So stop that.
Speaker 1I won't.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1I am pretty good considering.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1But I've been worse recording before.
Speaker 2Yeah, so have I. Yeah, I recorded without a voice.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Like what twice.
Speaker 1And the time you felt like you were gonna die.
Speaker 2Pick one. I'm sure there's been a couple times.
Speaker 1I'm thinking about the time that I forced you to do an hour.
Speaker 2Oh, my God, it was awful. I was like it's 40 minutes. This is good.
Speaker 1I'm like no, we got to have an hour, so I have something to work with.
Speaker 2Fine, that's it, no more. I can't do anymore.
Speaker 1No, how are you, by the way?
Speaker 2I am. I mean, my symptoms are like really just in my face, but I'm feeling. You know pretty good, I'm not like feeling like I'm dying.
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2I'm energetic? I don't know.
Speaker 1I'm feeling pretty good. You still have some energy. Yeah, I'm really warm. Yeah, I still worked. I had the energy enough to work, so it wasn't that bad. No, it's actually worse in the evening for me yeah for you it's in the morning.
Speaker 2I wake up and I feel like I'm dead yeah and again, I'm not sighing.
Speaker 1Why are you sighing? I'm trying to survive.
Speaker 2Is it because I didn't agree with you?
Speaker 1I'm not sighing, I'm surviving.
Speaker 2I didn't agree with you. That's it.
Speaker 1No, I'm surviving.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Yeah, so my nose is. Do you say stuffy or stuffed? Both, both, yeah, it's both.
Speaker 2It's stuffy and it's also stuffed.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2You could call it HR Puffin Stuff.
Speaker 1Okay, that's it.
Speaker 2That's the name of your nose. Ah, hr, hr, puffin Stuff.
Speaker 1What's HR?
Speaker 2I don't know what it stands for. No, okay, do you know what HR? Puffin Stuff? What's HR?
Speaker 1I don't know what it stands for. No, okay.
Speaker 2Do you know what HR Puffin Stuff is?
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2HR. Puffin Stuff is an old TV show. Okay, what have you been up to this week?
Speaker 1I've been working.
Speaker 2Did you do anything fun last weekend?
Speaker 1Yeah, I went to a movie.
Speaker 2Oh, yeah, tell me all about it.
Speaker 1To the cinema Wow movie. Oh yeah, tell me all about it.
Speaker 2To the cinema. Wow, yeah, I watched the movie.
Speaker 1You watched two months ago, something like that. Okay, don't see study a song.
Movie Reviews and Family Stories
Speaker 2Yeah, tell me your thoughts, so I can also talk about it yeah, okay, I liked it.
Speaker 1it's a little bit sad, but also it's a pleasant movie. Really, it's nice to see what someone can do for a parent. Yeah, it's very nice. I like what they did.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Just to like spark those old memories.
Speaker 2Yeah, so basically what the movie is is what Philip and Frederick yes. They take? Is it Philips?
Speaker 1Philips' dad.
Speaker 2Dad Out to France because he loves France, I guess.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2To spark up, yeah, old memories and some happiness because he's getting really old and losing his will to live.
Speaker 1I guess, yeah, or interest yeah, he said he wasn't depressed. Guess, yeah, or interest yeah, he said he wasn't depressed. But yeah, oh my gosh.
Speaker 2Yeah, he was, you could tell.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And I thought it was kind of funny how much of myself I saw in Fionnuala, because he just like goes above and beyond to make things perfect.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And it doesn't always go as it's supposed to.
Speaker 1No, I mean, the old man is slower and not what he once was, and that's how it is with age.
Speaker 2Yeah, it's a good movie.
Speaker 1It's very nice.
Speaker 2And no one cried.
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2All right. What else happened? Anything last weekend?
Speaker 1Let's see Sunday. I don't think much happened on Sunday for me.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Did I tell you something about Sunday?
Speaker 2I don't recall talking that much during the weekend.
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2I mentioned last week that my life partner had broken his foot.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And then we had all of the kids during the weekend, so I got what? What I got? Extremely stressed out because I had everyone asking for something. My life partner is like having trouble adjusting to, you know, not being able to walk and he's in so much pain. And I've got the kids, who always need something, and there's someone fighting and there's someone crying and we want to go do this and that and everything.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2So I had a pretty stressful weekend, and we weren't sleeping that well either, because he kept getting these cramps in his broken foot.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2While we were sleeping, and it wasn't great, he was caping me up all night.
Speaker 1Caping.
Speaker 2He was caping me all night. We became superheroes. Yeah, it wasn't great. Neither of us were sleeping. So on Monday I called out sick. I was starting to feel symptoms for this cold that I have now. I mean, they were slight symptoms, but I also hadn't slept for a couple nights so I was like I am not working like this.
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2Especially on a Monday, a long day.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2I was like, I don't think so.
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2And then I was like you know what we have Wednesday off. I'm sick.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2But on Tuesday we had bonfires. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1We did, we did, we did. Now I woke up, you're back.
Speaker 2Yeah, tell me about your bonfire.
Speaker 1We did have bonfires. I was the fire master.
Speaker 2Fire man.
Speaker 1Fire master.
Speaker 2You were the fire master yeah.
Speaker 1Okay, you were the fire master.
Speaker 2Yeah, okay, tell me all about it.
Speaker 1Yeah, I lit a fire.
Speaker 2Wow, that's amazing.
Speaker 1Yeah, I have something to tell.
Speaker 2Please tell.
Speaker 1A sad story.
Speaker 2Oh, no, that happened.
Speaker 1Okay, I'm not going to tell it. You can tell it's okay yeah it was Sunday, so that's what happened on Sunday.
Speaker 2Sunday was Sunday, and that is the sad story. It's sad.
Speaker 1No, sundays are sad, are you laughing at my sad Sunday.
Speaker 2No, I'm not laughing at your story.
Speaker 1No yeah, my mom fought.
Speaker 2She fought.
Speaker 1Yeah, she fought a cat. Oh my God no.
Speaker 2That's what happened. Oh no, the poor guy he lost to your mom.
Speaker 1No, she found one of our cats dead.
Speaker 2Where was he?
Speaker 1He was out in the patio. We had the summer furniture in there and he was laying on one of them and she's like, oh, he's sleeping. But when she tried like petting him, it was completely like stiff you know, and she was all like upset. Of course we don't really know what happened, but probably he was a big cat, so maybe it was something about his heart, or I mean, I don't, we don't know really it's all speculation he never showed any like signs of being sick or anything.
Speaker 2He just was telling you that he was in pain the whole time yeah, yeah, it was when he meowed.
Speaker 1He said ow, ow, but that's just his sound, I think.
Speaker 2I don't know. I think he was trying to tell you something.
Speaker 1Yeah, it really hurts.
Speaker 2It hurts.
Speaker 1Stop laughing at me. It hurts Poor guy.
Speaker 2Yeah, it was sad, though, yeah.
Speaker 1And I had to dig a grave for him and we had like a little burial. It was sad.
Speaker 2Yeah, I'm sorry about that it is really sad.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2How many cats are you down to now?
Speaker 1Five.
Speaker 2Five, only five.
Speaker 1Only five.
Speaker 2Only five five.
Speaker 1Yeah, in our house my sister has like eight okay eight or nine, I I don't remember a few, yeah, a couple. You didn't have any bonfire stories to tell me no, not more than uh, we were firing the bombs.
Speaker 2I don't know.
Speaker 1What is that even?
Speaker 2I can't answer Bonfire. I can't answer that.
Speaker 1No, we were burning sticks. Trees, trees, trees, no, no Burning trees Branches.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2I took my older kids to our local bonfire. Yeah, yeah. I took my older kids to our local bonfire. Yeah, I actually remembered to bring stuff for s'mores and the kids made s'mores. There were a lot of other kids too. They were like we also want s'mores. So the kids made s'mores for other people and it was fun. We ran out of s'mores stuff.
Speaker 1Why are kids so like that?
Speaker 2What.
Speaker 1Come up and say I want to.
Speaker 2Oh, I would have done that too as a kid. No way I would have done that.
Speaker 1Okay, Well, I mean it was. I would get yelled at by my mom if I tried even doing it.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, absolutely, but that's not going to stop me.
Speaker 1That stops me.
Speaker 2But a lot of the kids were actually my kids' friends. They kind of got an in there.
Speaker 1Yeah still, If it was my friend who did that, I still wouldn't say anything.
Speaker 2Yeah, unless they offered, offered exactly.
Speaker 1Then I would of course say yes, maybe they did offer, I don't know.
Speaker 2Okay, I wasn't always there, I was sitting there eating marshmallows and prepping for s'mores and they were roasting the marshmallows. But yeah, it was fun, it was really nice. I love a good bonfire yeah, so we had a good evening.
Speaker 1It was tuesday and then wednesday, we had the day off, yeah, and I and I got sick.
Speaker 2Yep, I was also still sick. My symptoms have gotten worse.
Speaker 1Yeah, that was the worst day for me Not even close to the worst, I felt. So, yeah, it's really just like a mild cold.
Speaker 2Yeah, cold, cold, cold, cold, Cold, cold Cold.
Speaker 1Warm, no cold, oh Cold, cold, cold, cold, cold Warm.
Speaker 2No cold. Oh, and then I mean the weather's been really nice, so I mean I spent some time outside on Wednesday.
Speaker 1Okay, and Tuesday.
Speaker 2Actually, I spent a lot of time outside on Tuesday.
Speaker 1What did I do? I didn't do much.
Speaker 2No, I did some things. Good for you didn't do much. No, I did some things, but then I, yeah, thanks, and then I went back to work on thursday I did too yeah, I was like I'll deal with two days of work, I'll be okay yeah but it's inventory season oh yeah it's starting, so now I'm also filled with dust dusty it's really nice, yeah, so yesterday, okay, thursday, yeah, it was the first time for our family to grill oh, very nice time of the year awesome. Yeah, what's good? What'd you have?
Speaker 1hamburgers and hot dogs awesome yeah that sounds really good.
Speaker 2And today's Friday it is May 3rd, yeah, and we watched movies.
Speaker 1We did.
Speaker 2Would you like to movie on?
Speaker 1Yeah, let's movie on Finally.
Speaker 2Yeah, we got this far.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's not just my fault though.
Speaker 2You keep sighing, so I don't know.
Speaker 1Yeah, but I don't sigh for an hour.
Speaker 2I think you have been sighing for an hour.
Speaker 1I'm surviving.
Speaker 2I have an hour of you sighing. Maybe, Today we watched two movies.
Speaker 1Which two movies did we watch?
Speaker 2We watched Hudson Hawk and Annie Get your Gun.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, that's true, yeah, it's so true, it's so true, hudson Hawk.
Speaker 2This one has Bruce Willis.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And the guy from the Protector.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Who was a sidekick in that movie too.
Speaker 1Yeah, in both movies.
Speaker 2In this one, Bruce Willis is a thief who wants coffee, but he doesn't really get any coffee and he's getting out of jail and going right back into thieving.
Speaker 1He's kind of forced into it.
Speaker 2He's forced into it. He didn't really want to, but he did it anyway. He's stealing these artifacts, these Italian artifacts, from Leonardo da Vinci or something, and they have these prism things inside them that the bad guys want. So Bruce Willis is working for the bad guys, and there's other guys that are named after candy bars, and there's a nun woman who she's there.
Speaker 1So I thought you said non-woman, that's a man she is a nun.
Speaker 2Yeah, okay, and she is there. It's a silly movie.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2I'm not going to go any further into the details.
Speaker 1No, okay.
Speaker 2Because that's all you really need to know.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2It is a silly movie.
Speaker 1It is.
Speaker 2I enjoyed the movie. It was funny, I think. Yeah, I don't remember, did I laugh?
Speaker 1I don't know, probably.
Speaker 2I probably laughed.
Speaker 1Yeah, I think you laughed, at least one time, one time, it was hilarious. Yeah.
Speaker 2What did you think about the movie?
Speaker 1I think it's funny too. I do like this movie. As you said, it's silly. It has some likeness to City Hunter. I told you that before.
Speaker 2I like that movie yeah.
Speaker 1I think you like that one more than this, but I like the thing that he's not getting his coffee for like all he wanted when he got out of prison yeah, his coffee his cappuccino yeah, they shoot his cup and the coffee maker breaks and everything. Yeah nothing's good no everything is against him getting his cup of coffee.
Speaker 2It's sad.
Speaker 1Yeah, I like it, though Not my favorite Bruce Willis movie, but it's still enjoyable. That's it. Yeah, let's movie over to Annie, get your Gun.
Speaker 2Yes.
Speaker 1Annie, get your Gun is about a girl named Annie.
Speaker 2What no?
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2That's not her name, is it?
Speaker 1It is Okay, I watched the movie.
Speaker 2I thought I was watching the movie too. I don't think that was her name.
Speaker 1Annie Oakley.
Speaker 2Oh, okay.
Speaker 1Oakley Doakley yeah, and she's really good at shooting. She's really good at shooting stuff, I guess, maybe.
Speaker 2With a gun Shotgun.
Speaker 1With a rifle I'm sorry for correcting you and she meets a guy and he's also really good at shooting stuff with a gun and rifles and stuff. They're really good at shooting guns, but it turns out she's even better than him and he's like the main star. That's his thing in this. What would you call it? Not a circus, but Some kind of show. Yeah, it's a show Like a show business thing. There's no business like show business. I would say that.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1And when she proves that she's better than him, he gets really mad. The thing is, though, that she has a thing for him. She really likes him. She makes this very weird face the first time she sees the guy.
Speaker 2Her jaw drops.
Speaker 1Yeah, he kind of likes her too, but he doesn't like that she's better than him, so that's a problem. I do feel like this movie is kind of like our Jackie Chan thing I want to be best about Jackie Chan and then it turns out you're better than me.
Speaker 2I'm not, though I'm not. I came up with a word.
Speaker 1Yeah, I kind of jokingly, I said that too.
Speaker 2Yeah, but yeah, it kind of reflected our relationship as well yeah, I feel like yeah it's more the competition yeah, exactly that shouldn't be a competition.
Speaker 1No, it's stupid. You're stupid, I know.
Speaker 2I said that, yeah, I'm agreeing. Yeah, you wanna fight?
Speaker 1yeah, jackie Chan fight.
Speaker 2Okay, are we kung fu fighting? Yeah, okay, ready.
Speaker 1Hi. Oh, okay, I'm ready. Hi-ya, hi-ya, Ow Okay. I win, darn it.
Speaker 2Are you mad now?
Speaker 1Yeah, my kung fu has gotten a lot better since you said it sucked. It doesn't suck anymore. No, who trained you?
Speaker 2Jackie trained me, by the way.
Speaker 1Oh, I've been seeing him on the side.
Speaker 2Yeah, I've been seeing him on the side.
Speaker 1Yeah, okay, Okay. So back to this movie Content.
Speaker 2I'm content with your content.
Speaker 1Yeah, my thoughts about the movie, please. I really liked this movie. I thought it was funny. I thought it was great songs. I really liked how the movie looked. I liked the performances, the actors. It was really good. It has songs that I knew, that I didn't know was from this movie.
Speaker 2Can I cut in here? Yes, because this movie was full of surprises.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Because there were at least two songs that are very well known that I had no clue came from this movie.
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2And you had gotten me this movie. I was so uninterested. I was like, why am I getting this movie? Yeah, why is this so funny? Oh, because we watched annie, and now annie has a god yeah like, yeah, it's a big joke, but why do I have this movie? But now I'm pretty glad I have it because it was so good yeah, I really liked it me too. Like we had mentioned, there's no business like show business.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Was in this movie.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Also anything you can do. I can do better.
Speaker 1I can do anything better than you, no you can't.
Speaker 2Yes, I can, no, you can't.
Speaker 1Yes, I can.
Speaker 2That was in this movie.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Crazy.
Speaker 1Yeah, I would have never guessed. It's so great when you hear songs that you know from other places.
Speaker 2Yeah, the original place, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1Because you hear the references before you hear the original source Sauce.
Speaker 2This was a really good movie. Yeah, judy Garland was originally supposed to play the main role of Annie. We like Judy Garland. She is good, but I think her getting sick and losing the role was for the best yeah, because the girl who ended up getting the role in the movie did it a lot better.
Speaker 1Yeah, I mean, she felt very funny, this lady who got it yeah. And I think that.
Speaker 2We probably should know her name, but I don't know it.
Speaker 1No, I don't know it either.
Speaker 2I didn't catch it.
Speaker 1Yeah, but she did it very well. She was great.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Should we look it up?
Speaker 2You probably should. I thought it was kind of funny how, in the first clip that we watched when she was doing the Naturally song she didn't even look like judy garland no which was really weird, and then I think I realized why because her hair was down oh and the other clip, her hair was back, just like she was in the weird, the weirdo of oz, the wizard of oz betty hutton, the Wizard of Oz.
Speaker 1Betty Hutton.
Speaker 2Betty Hutton.
Speaker 1Yeah, and I like that the guy playing Frank Butler Butler.
Speaker 2Butler.
Speaker 1Butler Frank Butler. His name is Howard Keel.
Speaker 2Howard Keel.
Speaker 1Howard.
Speaker 2Howard Doom Like you. Yeah, he's got the same name as you. That's funny.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Do you have anything else you want to say about this?
Speaker 1I don't think so.
Speaker 2I think I got everything out.
Speaker 1Yeah, I really liked this movie. It was very good.
Speaker 2It was very good, I enjoyed it. Yeah, okay, howard Matias. Yeah, matias.
Speaker 1Would you like to take a break? I think we've be well suited with a break right now.
Speaker 2Let's do that, then we will be right back.
Speaker 1Yes, see you soon.
Speaker 2Bye, anyway, we're back.
Speaker 1Yeah, we are, we are back.
Speaker 2We're back.
Speaker 1I don't know what happened to my voice.
Speaker 2It's really low now. You sound like a man now, yeah is it lower now? You might be lower.
Speaker 1I think it's.
Speaker 2In the second half we're going to use deep voices.
Speaker 1Yeah, I.
Speaker 2You lost your voice.
Speaker 1Yeah, I don't know what happened. I kind of like this voice though. Yeah, I don't know what happened.
Speaker 2I kind of like this voice, though. This is your radio voice, yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah, I hope I keep this voice, because then the girls will be looking at me differently.
Speaker 2They're like oh, that's what's wrong with his voice. Yeah.
Speaker 1Ew, creepy old man with low voice and all I can't hear what he's saying.
Speaker 2What are you saying?
Speaker 1I'm a man. I'm a man, I tells you.
Speaker 2Okay, okay, welcome to the second half.
Speaker 1Yes, of the podcast. Yeah, oh, you know what? What?
Speaker 2I'm kind of enjoying this now too. I really like this voice. Oh, you know what?
Speaker 1You know I can't like Breathe. Yeah, I can't mess this voice up.
Speaker 2No, keep it down here.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's like in the Fiddler the movie Okay spoilers. Yeah, the main guy. He has kind of a deep voice.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1So that's what I'm channeling right now.
Speaker 2Okay, he has kind of a deep voice, yeah. So that's what I'm channeling right now. Okay, I'm that guy, so transition.
Speaker 1Transition.
Speaker 2Hello and welcome to the second half.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2We are now going to start the next segment.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2It is the rewatches.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2The Kangaroo Reviews. I don't know what that's supposed to mean, but apparently that's the name of the segment.
Speaker 1Was it you or me that came up?
Speaker 2You came up with the word. I'm not sure if it refers to this segment.
Speaker 1Yeah, I don't know either.
Speaker 2No, I think we were reviewing each other's reviews.
Speaker 1Ah, okay.
Speaker 2No, this is a Kangaroo review of movies because we are hopping back. I just made that up, so we'll see if it sticks so far. This is our third rewatch and it's probably the third time I called it a kangaroo review.
Speaker 1So here we go, yeah, so it's a tradition, yeah, last week Tradition Tradition. Yeah.
Speaker 2Last week we assigned each other rewatches. Yeah, as this is the 75th episode. Yeah, I like my man voice too.
Speaker 1Sorry, I'm just going to stay down here too. Yeah, we have really manly voices today. We're two men now. Yeah, we, okay, wait a moment. Okay, okay, I'm going to shut up. Yeah, you better shut up because I'm being a man. Okay, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2Yeah, I'm going to let you finish, but first. Last week we assigned each other rewatches. This is the third time I think I'm saying this.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And you assigned a Jackie Chan movie to me.
Speaker 1Yeah, the Protector.
Speaker 2I even got the DVD from you.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2To keep, which was really nice of you. Thanks, man.
Speaker 1Of course man. Yeah, bro, it's a bromance.
Speaker 2A bad bromance.
Speaker 1Yeah, ha ha, I know that song. It should be a song Ha ha ha, ha, ha, ha ha ha. You're going to be like ha ha ha. Funny joke bro, very funny. You say bra Can you say bra. Bra.
Speaker 2Bra Funny joke, bra Bromance.
Speaker 1Bromance. Okay, anyway, anyway, what was?
Speaker 2I saying no, hold on, let me you shut up for a minute. Well, I wanted to say something, okay.
Speaker 1You know, this morning I was a 14-year-old.
Speaker 2That's right. Yeah, you sounded like a 14-year-old and now I'm a man. Yeah, you grew up really fast. Yeah, yeah, in a day I became a man. Don't blink, don't blink. They grow up so quick.
Speaker 1Now I'm like in my 30s.
Speaker 2Yeah, maybe 40s, maybe.
Speaker 1Yeah, who knows? I don't know I can't keep track of my day. No, I'm going to be dead then.
Speaker 2By the time we finish this you'll already be dead yeah. Man boys. I watched the Protector.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And then I assigned Fiddler on the roof.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, I watched Fiddler on the Roof. Yeah, I watched Fiddler on the Roof.
Speaker 2Fiddler on the Roof, and we both watched these movies on Wednesday, and now we are going to do a deep dive.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2On these movies with spoilers.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Total spoilers.
Speaker 1Oh yeah.
Speaker 2Man bro Bro.
Speaker 1Bro man Bro man Bruh man bro man br. Yeah, man Bro Bro Bro-man Bro-man Bra Man-bro Man-bra Man-bro Man-bro.
Speaker 2I'd like to get this started with my deep dive of the protector.
Speaker 1Okay, you do that.
Speaker 2Okay, all right, I don't know how long I'm going to use this voice, man.
Speaker 1Man, man man. I don't know how long I'm going to use this voice, man, I said men.
Speaker 2Yeah, all of us Plural men. I'm only talking to the men now.
Speaker 1Or are you?
Speaker 2talking to a butt. What Men butt.
Speaker 1You said men.
Speaker 2Men.
Speaker 1In Swedish, men in Swedish that means butt in English.
Speaker 2Oh, okay, okay, gotcha.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Jackie Chan Movie Discussion
Speaker 2Okay, so the Protector. This is my four and a half page essay on the Protector. This movie has Jackie Chan. It is from 1985. It's directed by James Glickenhaus.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And it's produced by Raymond Chow and Leonard Ho.
Speaker 1Yeah, the Godfather, the Godfather.
Speaker 2Jackie's Godfather.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, not from the movie.
Speaker 2Among others. There is an American version and a Hong Kong version, which is Jackie's version, and that is the one that I watched this time. The first time we watched it it was the American version and I Jackie's version, and that is the one that I watched this time. The first time we watched it it was the American version and I didn't like it, so I chose the Hong Kong version this time and hoped to enjoy it more.
Speaker 1Yeah, I like both of them, though oh, my goodness, that's loud. I leaned forward and got really loud.
Speaker 2You're supposed to get really close to the microphone and talk as deep as you can so that everyone can hear you.
Speaker 1My voice is like that right now.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, okay, okay so this movie I'm gonna go through everything yeah that happens in this movie.
Speaker 2So if you have not seen this movie and you don't really want to sit around and watch a movie, just listen to this and you'll get all the details that you will possibly need. This movie starts off with a weird group, I'm guessing, bad guys. They are bad guys. A weird group of bad guys messing with traffic lights to steal from a truck carrying I don't know uh boxes. They're probably delivering for jackie chan, I'm guessing, but the guy claims that it was tvs and computers. Yeah, I don't know. I'm calling bs there bulls, not because if you know jackie, you know, how he likes cardboard boxes yeah, he's like.
Speaker 1No, those were my cardboard boxes so then, you cut to Jackie.
Speaker 2His name is Billy, yeah, and his friend is named Michael Michael. They're cops. The date is October 1st. The year is never said.
Speaker 1It's never, the year is never.
Speaker 2October 1st never. October 1st never. I don't know about you, but October 1st is actually a big deal in my family because it is my sister's birthday.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2This movie is set on my sister's birthday.
Speaker 1Yeah, but it's likely before she was born, three years before, something like that maybe Okay, but the year is not announced. No, but if we say it's the same year as it's released. I'm going to get into the years. Okay, not right now. Okay.
Speaker 2I'm going to get there.
Speaker 1Okay, calm down yeah.
Speaker 2Shut up and sit down. October 1st year unknown, and Jackie is celebrating 10 years of living in New York.
Speaker 1Yeah, so it's set in New York. All right, everyone is speaking Chinese.
Speaker 2Yeah, everyone is speaking Chinese, but it's all dubbed so they're actually speaking English. Yeah, anyway, they find a stripped truck and the driver.
Speaker 1Was he stripped? No, he was not stripped. No, he was beaten up. Pretty bad yeah.
Speaker 2But that's when he said that he was carrying TVs and computers. Yeah, I'm not sure if that's actually what he had, but that's what he said. Yeah, it's probably just boxes anyway, anyway, off track. And then we see the bad guys again. They do heroin and they rob bars. Jackie kills a tall bad guy in the bathroom and another another one in the bar. He throws him out the window and his partner, michael, dies. There was a quote that I enjoyed. Someone said get off my car. It was just like so random, I think the bad guy jumps on someone's car and they're just like get off my car.
Speaker 1It's a bloody guy.
Speaker 2Get off my car, bloody guy, you're going to bleed all over my car.
Speaker 1It's a bloody guy, get off my car. Bloody guy, you're going to bleed all over my car, not like what are you doing?
Speaker 2Or, oh, my God, get off my car, was their first response.
Speaker 1He's like, not another one. It probably happened before.
Speaker 2Yeah, jackie chases the third bad guy to the harbor. I'm having trouble reading my notes.
Speaker 1Oh, were you drunk.
Speaker 2No, I was writing really fast Because I was like trying to write good notes and watch the movie at the same time. I kept having to pause.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And so it took me like four hours to watch a 90-minute video Video.
Speaker 1Movie yeah.
Speaker 2YouTube video.
Speaker 1No, it was a movie.
Speaker 2I did notice that you could see the helicopter shadow in the water. There's a boat chase. Jackie escapes by a helicopter.
Speaker 1His name is actually Billy, yeah.
Speaker 2But I wrote Jackie in my notes.
Speaker 1Yeah For everything. He let his boat go straight into the bad guy's boat so it explodes.
Speaker 2That was also what I wrote. He escapes by helicopter and the boat crashes into the bad guy, and yeah it explodes.
Speaker 1Yeah, okay, I'm sorry for you can cut me out. I'm going to cut you yeah.
Speaker 2Okay, so I also noticed in this scene you can see the Twin Towers and the Statue of Liberty. It's under construction. Hold on, I have notes on this.
Speaker 1Okay, did you look that up?
Speaker 2Heck, yeah, I did.
Speaker 1Oh, that's good.
Speaker 2Okay, so the Statue of Liberty. Just a couple of fun facts.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2It was built in 1876 by the French, who were celebrating a century of independence in America. That was my fun fact number one.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Number two is there was major renovation in 1984 to 1986. And you can see this in the movie. I thought it was really cool. Yeah, I asked Open Eyes about this and Open Eyes had results. Open AI, sorry this. And open eyes had results. Open ai, sorry, yeah. So I asked open ai about the construction done to the statue of liberty with dates and details.
Speaker 2Yeah, and open eyes came up with. The statue of liberty underwent a major renovation from 1984 to 1986 to address structural issues and restore its original appearance. The restoration included replacing the iron framework with stainless steel, repairing the copper skin and installing new lighting. It reopened to the public on July 5th 1986, marking its centennial Since then Just a quick note what did you say, July? Fifth Okay, 1986.
Speaker 1That's the day after.
Speaker 2July 4th. Yeah right, fun fact, so it was 100 years when they were opened up again.
Speaker 1Yeah, and july 5th, that's another one that is my life partner's birthday.
Speaker 2I can never remember that day. Anyway, since then, routine maintenance and upgrades have been carried out to ensure its preservation and safety, so I thought it was really cool that you could see the construction being done in the movie yeah. And that kind of marks the time. I mean obviously we know it was 85.
Speaker 1Yeah, you can't really escape the year.
Speaker 2No, in the time. I mean, obviously we know it was 85, but you can't really escape the year in the movie now either.
Speaker 1Yeah, exactly the construction is also visible in another movie, not with Jackie, but they are even fighting at the construction in a movie called Remo Williams, a movie with Fred Ward.
Speaker 2Alright, back to the movie.
Speaker 1I'm gonna add that to the list called Remo Williams, a movie with Fred Ward All right, yeah, back to the movie. I'm going to add that to the list at some point, okay.
Speaker 2If it's not already there.
Speaker 1Okay, yeah, back to the movie.
Speaker 2Jackie gets in trouble for not letting the Harbor police take over, so he gets demoted, yeah, but he's still supported by his peers who give him a slow clap as he's walking out.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And then Jackie goes to a party and he meets his new partner.
Speaker 1Pa-partner.
Speaker 2Pa-partner Pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-partner. He meets his new partner. His name is Danny Garone.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And he did stuff in Vietnam. There's a girl at this party. Her name is Laura and she flirts with Jackie. She's a marketer of some form. I'm not really sure her importance. There was also a guy named Benny who was overprotective of Laura. He's a karate champ and he is rich.
Speaker 1Yeah, played by Bill Superfoot. Wallace yeah, who also fought Chuck Norris in another movie. Okay, played by Bill Superfoot.
Speaker 2Wallace yeah.
Speaker 1Who also fought Chuck Norris in another movie. Okay, I'm sorry.
Speaker 2No, no, no, it's okay.
Speaker 1And also Danny Garone is played by Danny Aiello. Yeah, was it Danny Garone.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah, and he was also in Hudson Hawk that we watched today.
Speaker 2Yeah, coincidence, coincidence I don't know I don't think so they are watching a fashion show by edmund wong. They adjusted the subtitles in this one. You know when he says nice sits yeah in this one. Uh, they changed it to nice chest ah I preferred that one. It was better. You don't like sits? No, they're disgusting I thought it was funny Laura gets kidnapped. It was kind of a fun coincidence that Jackie just happened to be there at that moment as well as the bar robbing.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's fun. Another fun fact. I'm sorry for Fun fact then. Yeah, that's fun.
Speaker 2Another fun fact I'm sorry for.
Speaker 1Fun fact then? Yeah, the year after this one, in 86, jackie releases a movie called the Armor of God, and there's a character named Laura in that one, and she gets kidnapped.
Speaker 2Wow, cool, fun fact, fun fact Okay.
Speaker 1So if you're a character in a Jackie Chan movie called Laura, you better watch out, Because you're going to get kidnapped.
Speaker 2Probably.
Speaker 1Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm so stupid for interrupting you all the time.
Speaker 2Yes, okay, I'm going to continue now.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2All right. We found out that these bad guys work for Harold Ko. He's a known crime boss in Hong Kong, so Mr Ko is played by Roy Hsiao.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2I'm stopping you here, Okay, he was also in Indiana Jones Temple of Doom 84.
Speaker 1Yes.
Speaker 2Dragons Forever 88. Heart of Dragon. He was the restaurant owner, a movie that I got pretty interested in enter the fat dragon directed by samung hung. I thought it looked really fun and we're putting it on the list okay, yeah, I've been thinking about putting some, some of them at least that one yeah, millionaires express to um eastern condors. I'm sorry. Thank Also, he was in Enter the Dragon.
Speaker 1Yeah, okay, yep, maybe he was.
Speaker 2No, he was.
Speaker 1Yeah, but I don't remember. I believe it.
Speaker 2Thank, you Not, maybe he was. Yeah, okay, moving on. So Jackie and Garone get sent to Hong Kong to find out how Ko is connected to Laura, why he kidnapped her and to save her. They found out that Benny had called a Hong Kong number six times, like at the party or something.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2Before the kidnapping or something I don't know.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And that was a bit suspicious. Yeah, and the number led to a massage parlor, mm-hmm, yeah. Page number two yeah, there's a meeting set up in hong kong with superintendent whitehead yeah I also wanted to write white snake yeah that's a band, they get a jeep and jackie likes that. He likes the jeep. We also learn. A very crucial thing here is that jackie's middle name is Discretion, so Billy Discretion I don't remember his last name.
Speaker 1Wong.
Speaker 2Wong, so very important character information.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's a weird middle name.
Speaker 2Yeah Well, I'm not his parents, I did not name him Just saying yeah, so they go to the massage parlor and they play in the pool. There's a girl walking on Jackie's back. Have you ever had someone walk on your back?
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2It feels really good.
Speaker 1Oh.
Speaker 2But these girls who are massaging, they are also bad guys.
Speaker 1Oh.
Speaker 2And they try to kill Jackie. Hmm, and there's two other bad guys as well. And then suddenly everyone wants to fight Jackie. Yeah, why not?
Speaker 1Take the opportunity. Yeah, why not take the opportunity? Yeah?
Speaker 2They get countered by someone. I left it empty because I thought that I was going to find out the guy's name and I don't think I found out the guy's name. They get countered by someone who thinks that Shapiro sent them. I don't know who that is either, but his name kept getting brought up. I'm guessing it's Laura's dad. Yeah, okay, so that's a name that might get brought up again. We're going to say it's Laura's dad. His name is Shapiro.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2He doesn't have a first name, that's his last name. Yeah, Threats are exchanged and then they leave. Next part there's a Mei Fong Ho. She's an owner of a coin, I guess.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Jackie is looking for her in a dance rehearsal dressing room. I guess they're doing fence dancing.
Speaker 1They were dancing with fence swords, yeah, and this is a scene that's not in the American version.
Speaker 2I wrote Hong Kong edit here, so this is from the Hong Kong edit. This scene of and Jackie watches them practice and then he scares her with his coin.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2He shows her his coin and she gets terrified and runs away. It's a very scary coin.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Some guys defend her and fight Jackie, and this is the gym fight.
Speaker 1It's a kind of funny fight.
Speaker 2We find out that Tin Ho, which is her dad, he's dead. Li Heng is retired, but they were partners and they also worked with Harold Ko Bum bum bum he's a crime boss now, but we knew them. Jackie and Garone boat to meet Li Heng. Okay, I do have something on Li Heng, though he's played by Chun Yang Chun Chun.
Speaker 1Chun.
Speaker 2Yang Young. It could be an A or it could be a U. Okay, it's either Yung or Yang. He was also in. Enter the Fat Dragon.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2That's all I had on that guy, okay, and then his daughter Su Ling, is not Su Yung Su Yung, she's from Rush Hour.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Su Ling is played by Moon Lee. She was in Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars as Person at the End.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2That's her character's name.
Speaker 1Yeah, when all the people are getting out of the elevator.
Speaker 2Person at the End.
Speaker 1Yeah, the elevator contains like 300 people or something.
Speaker 2She's one of them. Yeah, she's also in Winners and Sinners.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2Anyway. So they're on a boat, they're talking to Li Heng and Su Ling and there's some bad guys that followed them to the boat, and this is boat fight.
Speaker 1Oh yeah.
Speaker 2Jackie escapes and finds a motorcycle and he makes a jump onto boxes.
Speaker 1What.
Speaker 2Probably the ones that he ordered.
Speaker 1Yeah, there they are. Yeah, the thieves got them there.
Speaker 2He chases a guy on a boat and the guy escapes and Hing agrees to help and Ko is mad.
Speaker 1Oh, that's what.
Speaker 2I got out of that yeah okay, next scene jackie and danny, also garone yeah they go to their hotel to find a mysterious briefcase with money and two tickets, and then the phone suddenly rings and they're told to leave hong kong. And then they're attacked by a guy outside their window among, among other bad guys.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2This is the hotel fight. Slash street fight.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's where I translated it to holy sheets.
Speaker 2Yeah, they get in trouble for engaging in this fight too.
Speaker 1Yeah, of course. I mean yeah, defending yourselves.
Speaker 2Mm-hmm.
Speaker 1No way.
Speaker 2And then we see that Benny and David Ho meet in Hong Kong. David Ho, I'm guessing, is Tin Ho's brother, maybe A family member of his, and then they go to a horse thing hosted by Ko.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2I wrote a horse race but there weren't any horses racing. They were just a bunch of people gathered yeah, they were kind of announcing that there were horses involved. You don't really see them, though. No, I don't remember horses he was talking about horses yeah, jackie and garone crashed the party and jackie dumps the briefcase money everywhere. Money goes flying. We find out that shapiro whoever that is missed a shipment payment and that's why ko is mad I guess kind of and taking his daughter for ransom yeah anyway.
Speaker 2so lee and wing meet to plot against Ko, and Wing is played by Hoi Sang Lee.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2Do you know this guy?
Speaker 1Not by name, if I see him, yeah.
Speaker 2I would expect you to recognize him, okay.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2He's in, enter the Fat Dragon, the Young Master Project, a Twinkle, twinkle Lucky Stars, heart of Dragon, and Project A2.
Speaker 1I think I know who it is.
Speaker 2Okay, he's also in the Protector, okay. Okay, he and Lee meet to plot against Coe, and Wing knows about a heroin lab in the shipyard and Laura is probably there, and then they get attacked by bad guys.
Speaker 1Oh.
Speaker 2And Benny is also there.
Speaker 1Yeah, okay, that's what. Benny is also there.
Speaker 2Yeah, okay, that's what I wrote for that.
Speaker 1Yeah, he's also a bad guy though.
Speaker 2Yes, page number three yeah, jackie and Suning meet to trade info. There's not a lot of info, but they also wanted to meet Wing. Suning does not like Jackie because he whispers. He's a chunk.
Speaker 1He's a chunk, you're so chunky.
Speaker 2I don't like you Because he's a chunk. No, he causes trouble.
Speaker 1Yeah, okay.
Speaker 2They find Wing dead hanging from the ceiling. They also find Li Hing dead. So Su Ling slaps Jackie and blames him for her father's death.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2So Jackie goes to Sally's house, which is Mei Fanghou Mei Fanghou, the coin girl. She changed her name to Sally.
Speaker 1Oh.
Speaker 2So I might call her Sally now.
Speaker 1It's easier.
Speaker 2Yeah, okay. So Jackie goes to coin girl's house sally okay, so now you're changing the game I'm trying to make it easy to keep up, yeah and they also exchange info. She has a maid, and jackie's like you have a housemaid, and she's like well, yeah, not this one though yeah, but I don't have a house.
Speaker 1I yeah, but I don't have a house.
Speaker 2I have a maid, but I don't have a house. Her regular maid is sick Sick in quotations.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2And she has a replacement who suddenly runs away instead of getting paid. That's suspicious, jackie doesn't?
Speaker 1like it.
Speaker 2It's a little suspicious.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2So Jackie searches the bedroom and he finds a bomb in the bed. A bomb.
Speaker 1A bomb.
Speaker 2A bomb in the bed.
Speaker 1Not a bomb in the bed, no.
Speaker 2A bomb. He defuses it because he learned how to do that in Rush Hour.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Which was years later. Yeah, it went to the future yeah, he learned how to diffuse a bomb, and then he came back to the protector yeah and diffused it. And then he was like you're not so young or whatever, you're sally anyway. Uh, he diffuses it and suddenly there's someone slamming on the doorbell Like stop, just stop.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2It's the guy who runs the massage parlor the manager, yeah which happens to be Sally's uncle. He's kind of a weirdo. He's warning her that Coe is out to get her, and now there's bad guys ringing the doorbell and they just oh no, they drive away they ring the doorbell and then they drive away. I don't know.
Speaker 1Pranking bad guys.
Speaker 2Yeah, they're the worst. But Uncle confirms that Laura is in fact in the shipyard. So now we go to the containers. Jaggi and Garoni meet at the shipyard. They consider getting Whitehead, not Whitesnake Whitehead, involved.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And then Hing has a friend who wants to help. He was a Navy SEAL. He also has a bazooka cannon kind of thing from an Israeli friend. So they sneak into the lab within the containers. Oh yeah, this is the scene where all the women were naked and working on the what? Heroin or whatever, and I read that there was a reason for them to be naked it's so they don't steal anything.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2They can't tuck anything away.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2Women do have vaginas, so they clearly didn't think about that.
Speaker 1What's that?
Speaker 2A vagina is a hole. Sounds scary that you can stick things into.
Speaker 1Oh no.
Speaker 2Like heroin. Yeah, okay, the heroin hole the heroin hole, also known as the heroin hole. I usually call it the heroin hole, but where was I? Oh yeah. So they sneak into the lab. Within the containers, jackie jumps a scientist and the assistants accidentally kill him instead of jackie thanks to his japanese bulletproof vest luckily they didn't shoot him in the head yeah, that would be worse.
Speaker 2They find laura and then release her from her cage. Jackie and the Navy guy blow up the lab and the plants. They escape, except for Garone who is captured and beaten for info. Also, where's Laura?
Speaker 1Yeah, oh no.
Speaker 2She disappeared. I guess she was saved and then she disappeared. Yeah, Jackie calls and threatens to make Laura disappear if Garoneone dies he calls co, I guess. Yeah, yeah, they plan a meeting and laura is sent to whitehead, not white snake now the showdown yeah jackie meets co at the shipyard. Jackie wants garone and co wants laura, but white Jackie wants Garoni and Coe wants Laura, but White Hat, white White Hat.
Speaker 1White Hat.
Speaker 2Whatever his name is Whitehead yeah.
Speaker 1It's a weird name.
Speaker 2He has Laura yeah. Which he was supposed to.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2But he also works for Coe. He's a bad guy too, so now the bad guy has Laura again, so Coe sends out Benny.
Speaker 1Mm.
Speaker 2Yeah, to beat up Jackie. I wrote a question mark because I didn't recognize him that well, but I assumed it was still Benny.
Speaker 1It was Benny.
Speaker 2Okay cool, jackie wins, even though the guy was given an iron fist thingy. The knuckle, iron Iron knuckles.
Speaker 1Iron knuckles, yeah, maybe Metal knuckle things.
Speaker 2Yeah, iron Iron knuckles, iron knuckles yeah, maybe Metal knuckle things yeah. Iron, I don't know.
Speaker 1Knulldjärn. Oh okay, In Swedish.
Speaker 2All right. So Jackie beats up more bad guys and suddenly Benny is back with a chainsaw yeah, but ends up electrocuting himself. And then the police arrive and garone and laura are freed.
Speaker 2Ko escapes by helicopter and jackie runs after him yeah but a guard attacks him and they end up being lifted by a crane thing. So garone suning and navy guy see this. So navy guy takes out his bazooka cannon thing and Jackie kicks the guard off of whatever platform they're on, but then gets shot at by Coe. So Jackie climbs in to drive the crane. He releases whatever it was holding which dropped onto Coe's helicopter and big explosion Last part here they ended up saving 2,000 pounds of heroin from being distributed in New York. Jackie and Garone received the Distinguished Service Medal. Everyone is happy. Jackie steals someone's child and they all walk away.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Random kid. He just picks up and walks away with it.
Speaker 1It's Michael's kid.
Speaker 2Oh, the guy who died at the beginning. Oh yeah, I just thought that was kind of funny.
Speaker 1Yeah, In reality it's actually the director's kid.
Speaker 2Yeah, but like the thing is that you never see the kid Like in the beginning, when Michael is there, michael just has a stuffed animal that he's like.
Speaker 1I'm going to give this to my kid, or something.
Speaker 2My kid's going to love this thing. But you never see the kid.
Speaker 1So the kid at the end seems completely random Did they cut out the funeral in the Chinese version? Maybe, Because they have a funeral for michael, okay, where jack is holding the kid and and the kid says something like when is dad gonna come back?
Speaker 2yeah, they must have cut them because I probably would have written that down yeah, it was not necessary, okay. So, all in all, what did I think about this movie? Yeah, I like this version a million times better than the American version. It is mostly with the nudity. It felt completely unnecessary in the American version, although I mean now I get it, but I don't think you needed to see as much as you got to see.
Fiddler on the Roof Movie Discussion
Speaker 1No, that's what Jackie felt about the movie too.
Speaker 2Yeah, but yeah, I did enjoy the movie. I don't think it's moved much higher on my list, though it's still good. It's a lot better now, but still not top ten.
Speaker 1No, no, no, I didn't expect that.
Speaker 2But I do like it. Okay, it is a good movie.
Speaker 1Yeah. And that's all I had. Okay, yeah, your turn my turn.
Speaker 2I forgot my deep voice.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, it's your turn now, yeah, please tell me about fiddler fiddler on the roof fiddler on the roof I'm gonna sit here and be quiet okay, so this movie is called fiddler on the Roof, loose, no, so this movie is called Fiddler on the Roof. It's from 1971. It's three hours and one minute long. It's directed by Norman Jewison. It's a movie about Jews, like yeah.
Speaker 2Jews, yeah, jews.
Speaker 1Jewish people yeah. Movie about jews like yeah jews, yeah jews, uh, jewish people yeah, and people thought he was a jew but he wasn't, so I guess he got the directing duty because of his name it's kind of funny. Okay, it stars topol topol. I don't know how to pronounce it, but that's the guy with the deep voice. The main guy yeah the main guy and Norma Crane.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1And Leonard Frey. I looked it up and they're all dead. I thought that Topol would be dead, you know, a long time ago, since he looked like he was in his 50s, 50s, 60s when this movie, in this movie, and he died last year. So and um norma crane, she died two years after this movie okay, she had cancer and leonard frey. He died in 88 and he had aids oh, facts.
Speaker 1Facts Maybe not fun facts, but facts, mm-hmm. Okay. So now I'm gonna say what the movie is about. The movie starts, it's dawn and we see a bunch of rooftops and there's a guy pweying.
Speaker 2Pweying.
Speaker 1Yeah, on a fiddle on one of the roofs, rooftops. And then there's another guy talking about the fiddler and that's the main guy Tevye, that's his name and then they start singing about tradition. And the guy Fevye starts to talk about traditions. Now, and then all the people are working to music or singing, or, yeah, they are doing like chores and stuff to music. Oh yeah, and the tradition song it's about arranged marriages, marriageses.
Speaker 2Marriages.
Speaker 1Yeah, marriages, arranged marriages, and there's also another much bigger circle of people in the village. The different types of people don't bother each other, though. Right now, and the main character and narrator, tevye he has a weird dance with his arms. You remember the dance?
Speaker 2I do. I like his dance.
Speaker 1Yeah, oh yeah, it's okay, he dances better than I do. I like his dance. Yeah, oh yeah, it's okay, he dances better than I do. I write these as I'm watching the movie. So now he mentioned the fiddler on the roof. Again, I have to suffer through his fiddling. That's my comment about that.
Speaker 2Are you actually suffering though?
Speaker 1I am. I'm not a huge fan of fiddling. And then there's a matchmaker, Jante, who comes to assign a husband for the eldest daughter, Seidel. Seidel complains about earlier men. The last one was bald and had no hair.
Speaker 2What.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Bald and has no hair.
Speaker 1Yeah, weird Gross, yeah, I know. Also we get to know that the matchmaker is a widow. And then there's a tailor, his name is Motel, motel Motel, and he wants to see Seidel. They have been friends since they were kids. The matchmaker says that the butcher, laser Wolf, a good man, rich man, is very lonely and has his eyes on Saito. So the mom Golde says Tevye doesn't like Laser. They say that he should go meet Laser and Laser will explain the situation. They say that to each othervye is not there, okay, right there. And then, and then we see the daughters. They have five daughters and they are singing about the matchmaker and that's one of the songs I recognize from this movie matchmaker, matchmaker, yeah, that's that one. It's a good song, I don't mind that song. And then Tevye talks to God and complains a lot, but he says he's not complaining, he's too poor. And then he starts singing about if he was a rich man.
Speaker 2Yep.
Speaker 1And his weird dance. He also has a broken horse, or the horse is limping. I forgot to write that down, but that's a fact.
Speaker 2Sad horse.
Speaker 1Yeah, I'm glad that they didn't kill the horse though. Yeah, so he's taking the milk to the village. Since he doesn't have a horse, he has to carry the wagon thing himself or he has to pull it himself. Then and there, a bunch of men gathers, including tevye, and talks about something that was written in a paper. And then a younger guy, perchick, a teacher from kiev kiev, is that how? Yeah, he joins them. Perchick, promise, uh, to teach tevye's daughters about the bible. And then we get to know that seitel, the oldest daughter, and motel they have a love affair.
Speaker 1Don't, don't don't yeah, and the parents doesn't know. So Golde tells Tevye to go to see Laser later. But first they have to sing and then eat. And now Tevye goes to see Laser. Laser tries to say that he wants the oldest daughter, but Tevye thinks Laser wants one of his cows, so that's kind of a joke there. And then Laser explains that it's Seidel he wants. Now Tevye starts to talk to himself and a creepy freeze frame of Laser shows up. He's staring right into the camera. I hate that face. I sent it to you. But Tevye agrees on it. And then they sing. They're so happy.
Speaker 2They get drunk over then too, right yeah they do.
Speaker 1They go out and get really drunk After singing and dancing. Tevye gets some bad news. It's about some evil Russians coming to the town or something. One of the evil Russians are kind of a friend to Tevye, so he warns him that the other evil Russians are coming, and then the fiddler comes down from the roof and plays for Tevye and they're dancing and all Later on Perchik and Hodl, one of the daughters.
Speaker 1They're in a disagreement and then they start to dance and fall in love or get fond of each other. It starts with a disagreement. Then we see Tevye tell Seidl that she's gonna be married to Laser Wolf. Goldie is very happy. Seidl is trying not to show how disappointed she is. Perchick, he doesn't like that. She gets married because of Laser's wealth. He has a point. Seidel tells Tevye that she doesn't want to be married to Laser Wolf. Model runs in and says he's a perfect match for Seidel. Now Tevye sings negatively about them giving each other a pledge. Now Tevye goes through pros and cons. He finally accepts their wishes. Model and Seidel get so happy about that that they run through the woods singing about miracles. Well, he sings and she laughs. And then there's another of the daughters. Her name is Wait a minute, I want this Chava Chava and she fancies a guy who's not Jewish. That's even worse.
Speaker 1Later on, tevye pretends to have a nightmare about Laser Wolf's late wife, so that he can convince Golde to let Model and Seidel get married instead. So he has to come up with a nightmare story and that's a very weird scene. But Very cool. It's cool. I kind of like the scene. It's also weird. So now goldie also wants sidle to marry model awesome. And now it's time for sidle and model to marry. Laser doesn't look very happy, though.
Speaker 1After the wedding ceremony there are people dancing with bottles on their hats. People are dancing, laser, he says. After the dancing he says he has no ill feelings and gives the newlyweds five chickens very nice. A verbal fight between laser and tevye starts kind of directly after that and Perchik, the teacher guy. He calms everything down and starts dancing with Hodl. Soon more people joins them. Then a bunch of evil Russians rides in and ruins the wedding Even worse and also they destroy the village. And then the intermission comes and that's two minutes of intermission. It feels like ten minutes.
Speaker 1Some time has gone past and now people are working the fields. Model and Seidel have been married for some time now. Perchik has to go away. Hodl is upset. Perchik is asking to marry Hodl. They tell Tevye the news and he says no, he doesn't want Hoddle to leave. Tevye starts singing as usual and goes through the pros and cons. He agrees on it and doesn't know what to tell Goldie. Goldie gets upset but Tevye calms her down. Then Tevye sings and asks if Goldie loves him. She's not so sure, but probably. Perchik has now left and wants people to fight back against the evil Russians. Then the evil Russian writes in and fights At the village. Hoddle gets a letter from Perchik. He got arrested. Hodl wants to go help Perchik in Siberia. Then she sings that she must go Now Hodl leaves on a train, motl gets a sewing machine. Oh yeah, they had a kid too.
Speaker 1Now the third daughter, hava, wants to tell about her love with the non-Jew Fjedka. He says that they can never get married. I guess that's Tevye that says that Golda wants to speak with the priest, whom tells her that Hava and Fjedka are married and have fled. Tevye gets upset by the news and says Hava is dead to them. Now he sings about Chava. We see Chava and Fjerdke dancing and the fiddler is playing. Now Chava is back with Tevje. He ignores her. She wants him to accept them. Now he goes through pros and cons. Feels kind of repetitive, don't?
Speaker 2you think I love that.
Speaker 1Yeah. And then, when thinking about the pros and cons, he screams no and dances her away. Okay, his weird arm dance. Of course, chava is very upset that her dad is such a tool. Okay, what Is that a bad word?
Speaker 2No, it's not, it's just funny.
Speaker 1Oh, okay, ah, the matchmaker brings boys for the last two way too young daughters. But you know, it's good to be prepared. We see that the evil Russians want all the people in the village to leave Tevye, and the villagers get upset. They have three days to decide, or, yeah, three days to leave, actually To pack their stuff and get out of there. So now the villagers they kind of want to stay, but now the villagers think that the village isn't the greatest place, but it's their home. You know, it's their town. Anyhow, now all the people are leaving the village. Chava and Fjedke comes to say goodbye. Tevje ignores them, saitl tells them goodbye and now it's time for all of them to go. And also, saitl isn't allowed to forget the baby. Oh, okay, all the people are walking on the dirtiest path they can find. The fiddler is now following them on the road and that's the end of the fiddler on the road.
Speaker 2Okay, so he moved from the roof to the road. Yeah, okay people left.
Speaker 1So he was like no, I'm not gonna be on the roof anymore, I'm gonna be on the road with the people he's also moving out yeah, okay, so that's the movie really okay did I miss anything?
Speaker 2I don't think so I think, you got everything that I remembered. Anyway, yeah, doing.
Speaker 1Doing these rewatches and when you go into detail like this, you can really focus more on the movie and get the whole story, because I didn't really get everything the first time, so now I understand a little bit more about the movie.
Speaker 2Especially when you're writing it down too. Yeah, so you're fully processing exactly too yeah you're like fully processing exactly what's going on.
Speaker 1Yeah exactly like the the weird nightmare sequence. I didn't get it the first time why it was, but it wasn't really a nightmare. He was just coming up with a nightmare to scare goldie. So yeah, there are a couple good songs, but I haven't really changed my opinion on the movie. I think I still think it's very boring and I know I said it last time that I wouldn't watch it again.
Speaker 2That kind of happened yep, you were forced to watch it, yeah but now I'm telling you that I'm not going to watch this movie again. Okay, next rewatch is going to be this movie again.
Speaker 1No way, this is the last time.
Speaker 2Well, at least it's confirmed that it's pretty boring.
Speaker 1It is.
Speaker 2Yeah, okay, yeah. Well, thank you for the breakdown and the confirmation. Yeah, that's exactly what I, and the confirmation.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2That's exactly what I was looking for, yeah.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2And now I know.
Speaker 1Yeah, and thank you for your breakdown too. Breakdown, it sounds like you're right. Yeah, I had a breakdown over Jackie Chan. Yeah, it was good.
Speaker 2It was good, this was good.
Speaker 1It's a good segment.
Speaker 2The movie wasn't good, but this segment was good this said yeah, yeah, what you said, uh, and the episode was good. Yeah, this has been a really good one yeah, and I had my cool voice yeah, you didn't have a voice. You had a deep voice. Yeah, and now we're gonna end this. Would you like to wrap this up?
