Speaker 1Yes, cool, I'm going to open this up.
Speaker 2Do that. It's hot.
Weekly Recap and Weekend Activities
Speaker 1It's hot, hot, yeah, my monster isn't very hot. It's hot, hot, yeah, my monster isn't very hot, that's good. Hello and welcome to Roasty Toasty Ghosty. My name is Matias.
Speaker 2My name is Lorraine.
Speaker 1We are gonna be your besties for an hour or so.
Speaker 2We'll see.
Speaker 1Yeah, probably less. How are you doing? I'm not great, no see. Yeah, probably less. How are you doing?
Speaker 2I'm not great. No, okay, I have a cold. My oldest came home with a cold from first week of school.
Speaker 1You know, kid germs. Yeah.
Speaker 2And he rubbed it off on me. I'm really quiet, yeah, but I'm all stuffy and coughing and stuff, stuffy stuff. I'm stuffy and I'm not great. Okay, cool or not cool. Alright, how are you doing?
Speaker 1I'm doing better than you.
Speaker 2Right, you are.
Speaker 1I feel just a little bit of a cold or something. I don't even know what it is, but it has definitely been worse this week and I'm better.
Speaker 2Good, yeah, I'm glad that you're better than me. Yeah, okay, good.
Speaker 1So should we talk about the week? We can do that a little bit, so Saturday.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, I went to a party.
Speaker 1You did.
Speaker 2Yeah, my life partner had a friend who was having a surprise party, or the friend didn't know about it, but there was another friend who arranged it and the birthday friend was surprised. Yeah, and we played paintball, which was scary and exciting. We had a crawfish party, yeah, which was gross, but we all had fun.
Speaker 1I think, I don't know, I wasn't there, no.
Speaker 2Well, I was like the only sober person there. I was the designated driver and it seemed like everyone had fun.
Speaker 1That's good. Yeah, I was home doing a lot of editing and, yeah, I was home alone. And then there were two burglars who no, I'm kidding, I don't know. Okay, could have been. Yeah, you never know, no, but it wasn't Christmas.
Speaker 2So that doesn't happen late summer.
Speaker 1No, that only happens on Christmas, so and then on Sunday? We only happens on Christmas, so and then on Sunday we went for a walk. We did.
Speaker 2Yeah, and then I went to gymnastics later that evening, oh yeah, and I felt like I hurt myself during warm-ups again, but it wasn't that bad. No okay, yeah, oh yeah. I got a like super headache. Afterwards too like super headache afterwards too it felt like my eyeballs were falling out.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, you, you told me about that yeah, it wasn't great. No, I got over it though yeah, so I I didn't do much on sunday, I think okay, more than the walk, okay.
Speaker 2So yeah, monday I can shorten this a little bit for you.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2Because I started school this week, I had math class on Monday and Wednesday and I was supposed to go today, but I skipped it. Okay, I skipped it. Yeah, what is it? I can hardly hear myself.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2And then I had Swedish class on Tuesday.
Speaker 1So Monday, that was the worst day for me.
Speaker 2Right.
Speaker 1Because that's when I felt like I had a cold, yeah, but it wasn't that bad. I was thinking okay, here it comes, soon, it's going to be worse, but it never got worse for me, so I'm happy about that.
Speaker 2That is good.
Speaker 1Yeah, so you know it was scary because I thought it would be worse. Anyhow, I survived Monday and we did go for a walk on Monday.
Movie Night: Mrs. Doubtfire Discussion
Speaker 2Right, and we went to the cinemas on Tuesday.
Speaker 1Yeah, we did we watched Freakier Friday. Yeah, did we watched Freakier Friday? Yeah, that's a sequel to the 2003 movie Freakier Friday. And should we just talk a little bit about what we thought about the movie? Yeah, yeah. So what did you think about the movie?
Speaker 2I really liked it.
Speaker 1Good.
Speaker 2There were a lot of comebacks from the first movie.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2It was a bit more complex.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Which I found kind of exciting, okay so yeah, yeah, I liked it too.
Speaker 1The complex part you're talking about is that it's four people now who switches bodies. The thing is, I was at moments in the movie a bit confused. Who was who, you know? Okay, I'm like, okay, which girl is this now, and who is she supposed to be? So, yeah, that was a little bit confusing.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1But I mean, I think I got most of it though, and um yeah, it was fun. I mean, I do love jamie lee curtis in these movies yeah both the first one and this one.
Speaker 1She's so funny. I do prefer the first one, but this was funny and it was a good sequel. Yeah, it was you and me and my mom and my sister right, who went to the cinema. My mom wasn't a big fan, uh, you know, when asking her, but then the day after she was like, ah, maybe I was a little too harsh on the critique yeah, yeah, that's what we did on Tuesday.
Speaker 2Yeah, monday we went for a walk in the woods.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And then Wednesday we went for a walk in different woods and then we found an outside gym.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And we got ice cream.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And that was really fun yeah.
Speaker 1I enjoyed that. Yeah, it was close to my old school. Yesterday was.
Speaker 2Thursday.
Speaker 1Yeah, it was close to my old school.
Speaker 2Yesterday was Thursday.
Speaker 1Yeah, it was, and we did have our first movie night yesterday.
Speaker 2Oh, that's right, we watched a movie yesterday, yeah.
Speaker 1Should we just explain that you went to work today, so we didn't really have time for two movies.
Speaker 2Right, I work today and I'm'm gonna work tomorrow as well, yeah, so I didn't want to be up half the night and then go to work no, exactly especially when I'm not feeling great so yeah would you like to move on?
Terminal Velocity and Director Talk
Speaker 1Let's move on.
Speaker 2Okay, so yesterday we watched Mrs Doubtfire, yes, and today we watched Terminal Velocity, and since we saw Mrs Doubtfire first, I think that you should tell me about that.
Speaker 1Yes, this is a movie with Robin Williams, Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, Matilda yeah, Matilda. Mara Wilson yeah, it's directed by Chris Columbus, who did Home Alone. Yeah, this movie is about a married couple with kids and the dad played by Robin Williams is a very irresponsible. Would you call it irresponsible?
Speaker 2Childish irresponsible yeah.
Speaker 1He's irresponsible in Sally Field's eyes. You know the wife.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1So she wants to divorce him and that divorce makes things hard for him because he won't get to see his kids as much as he wants to. And the wife says that she needs, like a nanny, a babysitter. And he comes up with the plan to make himself that nanny an elder woman who he calls Mrs Doubtfire.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1So he helps a lot with all kinds of things in their house. They don't really suspect anything.
Speaker 2I think that's pretty good.
Speaker 1Yeah, so yeah, that's what it is about him helping. He didn't help when he was a husband, but now that he's a nanny he helps a lot. Yeah, so yeah. What did you think about this movie?
Speaker 2I really like this movie. I like Robin Williams.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Yeah, I like a lot of his movies.
Speaker 1Yes.
Speaker 2You know, this is one that I haven't seen that many times though. Okay, so I didn't remember, like all the parts.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2Exactly, but I remember like all the parts. Okay, exactly, but I still really like it. It's really good. Yeah, I, I did catch the. Uh. They were looking for another nanny after they found out who robin williams was. They were going through a list of potential nannies and the last one was what was it? Assistant producer of the movie. I thought that was funny.
Speaker 1Yeah, her name was there yeah.
Speaker 2It was unfortunate that the actor wasn't the actual assistant producer.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2But it was a fun catch. Yeah, it was, and I was kind of thinking that when they crossed out the name I was like I wonder if that's part of the crew or something. Sometimes, they'll do that.
Speaker 1Yeah, they do, and I mean this movie makes references to, for example, Fiddler on the Roof.
Speaker 2Oh yeah.
Speaker 1This is the movie I was thinking about when they sang Matchmaker in Fiddler on the Roof. I'm like, where have I heard?
Speaker 2that song before.
Speaker 1But I think I did realize it.
Speaker 2Yeah, you did. You did, and you sent it to me, I think.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, Maybe I did. It's funny that you say you haven't seen this one as much as some of the other ones, because I think this is probably one of his movies that I've seen the most okay I do really love this movie I mean sorry.
Speaker 2Aside from aladdin, I think that jumanji is my most seen okay followed by flubber.
Speaker 1Oh, yeah maybe night at the museum oh, yeah, I've seen that quite a few times too. Yeah, that one is also. Yeah, that's true. But yeah, I think this is the most watched for me, because I really love this one.
Speaker 2Oh yeah, it's a good one.
Speaker 1Yeah, I mean it's funny and it's heartfelt and everything.
Speaker 2Well, talk about heartfelt. I mean that last court scene when he was telling them about how much he loves his kids and everything. I mean I could relate to that because I have trouble some days without my kids, as well, yeah, and if you're a parent and you don't? Relate to that. What are you doing? Yeah, I mean, that was one of my biggest fears when I was going through my divorce too was having days without my kids. Yeah, what are you doing?
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2I mean, that was one of my biggest fears when I was going through my divorce, too was having days without my kids.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And now I have them six days a week and I am super happy with that.
Speaker 1Yeah, good movie though. Yeah, so that was that, and then we watched a movie today.
Speaker 2Terminal Velocity yeah.
Speaker 1Did you want to say it terminal velocity?
Speaker 2yeah, this is a movie with charlie sheen. Yeah, uh, right, he, uh, he likes to jump out of planes. There was a girl who wanted to jump out of a plane with him, and so she did, but she jumped off the plane without him, yeah, or before him, and she splattered on the ground, yeah. And then she came back to life and brought charlie sheen along on a mission with something that had to do with gold and the kgb. Wait, is that right kg? Used to be used to be yeah it was a joke.
Speaker 2I think that was it. Yeah, right. Yeah it was. What did you think about this movie?
Speaker 1It's okay. No, I love this one. I love this one. I mean, I can tell you that this is my absolute favorite of Charlie Sheen's movies. It's such a good movie movies. It's such a good movie. I think it's so good because it has great action, a mystery, very suspenseful, funny, it has all those and I mean it's a spy story. I love the whole thing and I remember the first time I watched this one it was I was yeah, I couldn't take my eyes off it. It was so good and it had me on the edge of the seat and, yeah, I love this movie. That's why I think about this movie. What did you think?
Speaker 2I also like this movie. Okay, I like the explosions. Okay, I like the explosions.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2And the intensity of some of the scenes.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Like that last time that they were falling out of the sky and the girl was in the trunk of the car.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2I had completely forgotten she was there. Oh, okay, I was like, why is he holding on to the car for so long? Yeah, like, let the car go, but she was in there so she was going to explode.
Speaker 1That was the scene that I was so, so on the edge from my seat. It was so exciting.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1The first time I saw it. It's still exciting. I still get like goosebumps every time they just back out of the airplane.
Speaker 2I wouldn't mind having this as a rewatch, though, because I'm not feeling well.
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2So there could be some things I missed.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's all I have to say about that. That can be arranged.
Speaker 2All right. Is that a threat?
Speaker 1No, okay, no, that's a promise oh boy Alright, alright, anything else.
Speaker 1Yeah, I like to talk about directors, and the guy who directed this one is called Darren Serafian, and he is one underrated director. He has, in my opinion, done quite a few good movies that I really like, like what one movie is called road flower. I like that one too. I don't think we've seen another one that he directed yet, but this is the best one. I have to say that, though, but I really think he's very underrated director and I wish he was directing still, but I don't know. I saw an interview with him for not that long ago and it seems like he still wants to direct. It's Just that he doesn't get the opportunity to do so. Oh, and that's too bad. I really hope he can get back and do some movies or something. Would be cool. But yeah, darren Serafian, oh well, oh well. Oh yeah, he made a movie called Back in the USSR.
Speaker 2That's the Beatles, yeah, okay.
Curing a Cold: Remedies and Tips
Speaker 1I mean it has the same title as the song Beatles song, but I'm not sure it's the same though Okay, I have that movie. I mean it's okay, but it's not maybe his best work, but it's an earlier movie.
Speaker 2So All right.
Speaker 1All right, I feel good about that. So now I'm done with movie on. Okay, we can movie on from. No, we can move on from movie on.
Speaker 2All right, then would you like to take a break?
Speaker 1Yeah, all right, we'll be what. Let's take a break.
Speaker 2Okay, we'll be right back.
Speaker 1Yes, we're back.
Speaker 2Hello.
Speaker 1Hello.
Speaker 2Matias.
Speaker 1Yes.
Speaker 2What are we doing today?
Speaker 1You're having a cold.
Speaker 2That is true. Are we going to spend the second half listening to my gross cold noises? Yes, ew, are you going to help me?
Speaker 1I'm going to try.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1And not.
Speaker 2Not, you're not going to help me. Who?
Speaker 1knows who knows. Okay, your nose.
Speaker 2It's a hassle.
Speaker 1Yeah, my nose. No, I will do my very best to help you, to try to help you.
Speaker 2Yes.
Speaker 1Okay, so I asked open eyes.
Speaker 2Of course.
Speaker 1I don't know why I almost said Google eyes.
Speaker 2Googly eyes. Yeah, I mean that would be fun google eyes.
Speaker 1That's the google one that's gemini. Yeah, yeah, that's google eyes googly eyes okay okay so what did you ask? Open eyes I asked how to cure a or, it wasn't really a question, but yeah, yeah, in a way, it's a crash course, yeah, and I think that this could be useful for lots of people. Yeah.
Speaker 2I mean, I know that we've gone over allergies before but this is a cold.
Speaker 1Yeah, this is cold.
Speaker 2Burr Okay.
Speaker 1Okay. So OpenEye says there's no cure.
Speaker 2Oh, I'm gonna die.
Speaker 1Yeah Okay, there's no cure for the common cold, but you can manage symptoms and speed up recovery by taking care of your body. Here's a practical approach.
Speaker 2Okay, are one of these suggestions drinking four milkshakes in a day? Do?
Speaker 1you think?
Speaker 2will that help? Probably Okay.
Speaker 1Maybe. Okay, we'll see.
Speaker 2And we should ask that at the end.
Speaker 1Yeah, if it's not one of the.
Speaker 2Right If it doesn't already suggest drink four milkshakes in a row.
Speaker 1Then it says one fries with that.
Speaker 2Ha ha.
Speaker 1Ha, ha ha. Okay, number one Rest.
Speaker 2That's not happening.
Speaker 1Your body needs energy to fight the virus. Sleep as much as you can.
Speaker 2All right. Well, I'm going to be over here then, and you just keep talking.
Speaker 1Okay, don't snore too much.
Speaker 2You said snore, not snort. Oh, okay, yeah, sorry.
Speaker 1It's okay. Number two, hydration, is that milkshakes Maybe Drink plenty of fluids. Water, herbal, herbal or herbal tea. That is up for debate yeah, so one of those I think it's a personal yeah opinion you decide and that in you is people listening to this I say herbal okay I do know that some people say herbal. Then I say herbal, herbal, herbal.
Speaker 2Hairball tea.
Speaker 1Yeah, hairball tea.
Speaker 2I don't think so.
Speaker 1Broths, broths, broths, yeah.
Speaker 2I have to wear a bra to get better?
Speaker 1Yeah, it's not happening A fluid bra Ew.
Speaker 2What, how, huh, I don't know Ew what.
Speaker 1How, huh? I don't know.
Speaker 2Okay, is that a milkshake?
Speaker 1Probably Broths. Am I saying it wrong or no, I'm good.
Speaker 2I'm just hearing broth.
Speaker 1Okay, but avoid. But yeah, broths and butts. No, avoid alcohol and caffeine. I drink too much coffee, sorry. No, avoid alcohol and caffeine.
Speaker 2I drink too much coffee.
Speaker 1Yes, they dehydrate you.
Speaker 2Eat a can, mm-hmm Yay.
Speaker 1Yay Number three.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Eat light, nutritious foods.
Speaker 2Does that include milkshakes?
Speaker 1I thought it was a lamp. Eat the light Milkshakes.
Speaker 2You know. And milkshakes, yeah, like milk shakes. I thought it was a lamp. Eat the lights. You know, and milk shakes.
Speaker 1Yeah, so you can eat soups like chicken soup, fruits, especially citrus, and vegetables.
Speaker 2Veggie tables yeah.
Speaker 1Okay, vegetables, avoid heavy or processed foods. Don't eat that.
Speaker 2What's a heavy food?
Speaker 1Lead. Oh iron yeah, iron Like spinach, iron, iron, iron Rocks.
Speaker 2Hmm, you know that's the majority of my diet. It's rocks. I'm on a rock diet. I am on a rock diet. I'm trying to gain weight. Yeah, I'm trying to get stoned, you're funny, you're funny.
Speaker 1Number four yeah. Over-the-counter meds for symptoms Stuffy nose.
Speaker 2I got that. Check yeah what helps with I got that Check.
Speaker 1Yeah, what helps with that is decongestants. Yeah, did I say that right.
Speaker 2Decongestants Ah good. Today we're going to learn about decongestants. Yeah, oh, eg.
Speaker 1EG. What's that? Eg Eggs, okay, uh, uh.
Speaker 2Okay, wait, can I extra?
Speaker 1Genitals, genitals. I think that's what it means. Okay.
Speaker 2I was also going to say giant, but genitals works too, I think, in this situation. Decongestants yeah, you need some extra genitals works too, I think in this situation Decongestants.
Speaker 1Yeah, you need some extra genitals.
Speaker 2I don't think that's going to help me.
Speaker 1No, okay so and pseudoephedrine Cool.
Speaker 2Sounds like a Pokemon.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, of course, pseudowoodoo, pseudowoodoo. Okay, that sounds like it's a tree course. Pseudo voodoo, pseudo voodoo okay that sounds like a tree oh, is it?
Speaker 2yeah, oh, okay, cool uh, can I see the word wow, that's a good one yeah you know what, don't bother pseudoephedrine cool, yeah, uh, nasal sprays oh, that's easier to say. Oh yeah, I have vapors Vapes, nose vapor, nose vapes.
Speaker 1Okay, cool.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Okay, so, and for a runny nose.
Speaker 2I got that.
Speaker 1Yeah, you should.
Speaker 2As I'm like protecting my nose with paper. You should treat Do tampons work.
Speaker 1It doesn't say, but I think, so I'm going to shove a tampon up my nose. Yeah.
Speaker 2I'm sorry. What'd it say?
Speaker 1Antihistamines.
Speaker 2Okay, yeah, I might have some of those. Yeah, for a nose.
Speaker 1For a nose.
Speaker 2For a nose.
Speaker 1Mm-hmm. Okay A runny nose. Oh, okay, a runny nose.
Speaker 2Oh.
Speaker 1Sore throat.
Speaker 2Yeah, I got one of those.
Speaker 1Okay, lozenges.
Speaker 2Okay, you know what? The thing about cough drops or hans tableter, throat tablets?
Speaker 1Lozenges.
Speaker 2Lozenges, whatever you want to call them. They've never really done anything for me, I feel like, even when I'm done with it. I'm still hurting. Yeah, I don't know if it's like a long time effect kind of thing, like you have to have the entire bag before anything happens. It's never really done anything for me. Okay, are you upset?
Speaker 1Yeah, I am. I'm trying to help you here and you're just shooting me down.
Speaker 2Well, I have to be honest, right, I've been cool with all the other suggestions, just this one thing the open eyes are crying eyes.
Speaker 1now.
Speaker 2Crying eyes. Open crying eyes.
Speaker 1Oh, I don't like that thought. Openly crying eyes.
Speaker 2I don't like the idea of eyes being open when you're crying.
Speaker 1It sounds painful.
Speaker 2I don't like it.
Speaker 1Close your eyes.
Speaker 2If you're going to cry, please.
Speaker 1Lozenges and warm saltwater goggles.
Speaker 2Goggles.
Speaker 1Goggles. No, you said it right, I said it wrong. Yeah, but I'm I'm just thinking if, if you had them as goggles, it wouldn't work with warm water especially salt water if they're in your eyes.
Speaker 2Yeah, they're supposed to be in your throat yeah I. I feel like I've tried it before. I know that I've made my life partner do it.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2He didn't like me for that.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, but he likes salt.
Speaker 2He does, which is weird.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2But I think he was in a lot of pain. I don't think it helped in the moment.
Speaker 1Did you like waterboarding or something?
Speaker 2Yes, with salt water Hot salt water. That's what I did. I don't think he liked it. He said no.
Speaker 1Stop it. I can't hear you Pour on some more, because I can't hear you Okay.
Speaker 2Okay, gargling, which is weird. Yeah, do you like to gargle water?
Speaker 1No, I have done it.
Speaker 2It doesn't. It feels like I'm choking. I think yeah, kind of.
Speaker 1I don't know, I don't know why I did it. It doesn't.
Speaker 2I don't think it helps Not me, not that I have any experience experience of I mean maybe I should try it, because when I get a sore throat I get like it's really sore, like it hurts really bad. A lot of the times I can like hardly swallow anything because it hurts so bad. And that's what I had last night. It was like it hurt all night.
Speaker 1Yeah, it's definitely been worse than it is now, but yeah yeah, so if you have fever or pain, you should take tylenol or advil.
Speaker 2These are american medications. Advil okay, it's part of a heavy diet.
Speaker 1Oh, that's an anvil okay sorry, I was thinking of an anvil too.
Speaker 2Yeah, no, it's Advil, which is not an anvil.
Speaker 1But I was thinking the same thing.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Okay, okay, anyhow, that's that. That's all it had for me. No Use meds as directed and not all at once, unless advised.
Speaker 2So I shouldn't just devour the entire bottle of medication.
Speaker 1Like they do in movies. They take the whole.
Speaker 2The whole thing and just smush it into their face.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's how they do the movies I've seen people do it and sometimes they're okay.
Speaker 2Weird yeah.
Speaker 1Especially in America, where the meds are strong.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1In Sweden we don't have that strong of meds. Huh, I'm pretty sure that's what I heard. I never tried American meds, but Do you?
Speaker 2want to start.
Speaker 1Do you have some American meds?
Speaker 2I have ibuprofen.
Speaker 1Oh, ibuprofen.
Speaker 2I also have cough drops.
Speaker 1Hals, hals.
Speaker 2With two L's.
Speaker 1Yeah, but it's still hals.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Number five Right. Use a humidifier or steam. That's the computer thing.
Speaker 2Yeah, the gaming. Yeah, okay, I should play computer games.
Speaker 1I guess so.
Speaker 2Okay, or get a humidifier.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2Hmm, choices.
Speaker 1Moist air can ease congestion and soothe your.
Speaker 2Soul.
Speaker 1Soul Soothe your soul that might.
Speaker 2Yeah, that's the word. I think that's what the word should be.
Speaker 1Yeah, throat.
Speaker 2That was very close.
Speaker 1Soothe your throat.
Speaker 2Or your soul.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, that feels more poetic.
Speaker 2Are you a poet now?
Speaker 1Yes, I am All right, because I can't read.
Speaker 2I'm a poet because I can't read oh my God, okay.
Speaker 1Number six try natural remedies. Number six try natural remedies. Honey plus lemon in hot water can help soothe a sore throat and cough.
Speaker 2That's tea. Oh, that's pretty much what I have. Yeah, that's true, it's lemon tea with honey.
Speaker 1Yeah, ginger tea may ease inflammation and nausea.
Speaker 2I was never nauseous I was on Monday, were you nauseous.
Speaker 1I was Okay and that worried me. Yeah, I'm like is this gonna be?
Speaker 2worse A lot worse. Yeah, I don't usually get nauseous when I have a cold, though.
Speaker 1No, me neither. That's weird. Yeah, I don't know what that was on monday. Okay, so that was the six points, but it also says when to see a doctor okay fever over 101.3 of fahrenheit I don't have a fever. No, okay, or 38.5 Celsius.
Speaker 2That makes more sense.
Speaker 1Yeah, fever, overdose for more than three days, then you should I have to suffer for three days? Yeah, if you want to see a doctor, okay. So yes, all right, severe sinus pain or swelling?
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Then you see a doctor. Symptoms last longer than 10 days.
Speaker 2That's so long. Why do I have to suffer for so long before anyone will see me?
Speaker 1Because doctor says no, I don't want to see you. If you only suffered for a couple days, okay, no way, all right, trouble breathing or chest pain.
Speaker 2I think that's the definition of a cold.
Speaker 1Okay, yeah, so go see a doctor then.
Speaker 2Every time I have a cold.
Speaker 1Yeah, or cough with green or bloody mucus.
Speaker 2Gross.
Speaker 1Okay, that's when you should see the doctor. Okay, so that's what that was. Okay, so how not to cure a cold?
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Do you want to hear that too?
Speaker 2Yeah, I want to know what I should not be doing, so I avoid doing that.
Speaker 1It's a great question.
Speaker 2It is.
Speaker 1Knowing what not to do when you have a cold is just as important as knowing what helps. Here's what to avoid so you don't make things worse.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Number one taking antibiotics.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Why not? I don't know. Colds are caused by viruses, not bacteria.
Speaker 2Are you sure? No, okay.
Speaker 1Open eyes might be sure, but I'm not sure.
Speaker 2Fine, I trust the internet.
Speaker 1Of course, as you should. Yeah, always.
Speaker 2Trust your internets. Yeah, that was a title, uh-huh.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, that's true. Antibiotics won't help and can lead to antibiotic resistance or side effects.
Speaker 2Not good.
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2Don't want that.
Speaker 1No, no, no, no. Okay, so number two overusing nasal sprays.
Speaker 2I hate nose spray.
Speaker 1Yeah, and I was reading wrong, because I was reading over-suing nasal sprays.
Speaker 2Why are you suing the nasal sprays?
How Not to Cure a Cold
Speaker 1I don't know, because they wronged me I don't like them.
Speaker 2I'm suing you nose spray because I don't like they're taking my kids um emotional issues yeah, exactly abuse. I bit myself while I said that, oh no. And it hurt really bad.
Speaker 1Emotional.
Speaker 2I am emotional over saying the word. Emotional because I took a chunk out of my mouth. It was an emotional bite. I didn't like it.
Speaker 1It hurts the congestion. Sprays like oxymetazoline.
Speaker 2Okay, whatever, uh-huh oxymerasolin Okay.
Speaker 1Whatever Uh-huh, they work, but using them for more than three days can cause rebound. Congestion Makes your nose stuffier.
Speaker 2That's not good.
Speaker 1No, so don't do that.
Speaker 2All right.
Speaker 1Three, number three, uh-huh.
Speaker 2Drinking alcohol or smoking. I don't do either of those.
Speaker 1Good, because you shouldn't? Alcohol dehydrates you and can interfere with sleep and immune function.
Speaker 2I don't really think that I'd want to be drinking right now. Even if I did that, I have tried that, though it doesn't work very well, does it no?
Speaker 1just because I'm feeling I'm getting a cold and I'm like I don't want that, maybe I can, you know, kill it with the, kill the virus with with the alcohol that was my.
Speaker 2Did you do that? I did Okay. When was that?
Speaker 1Recently, no Monday, maybe, when I was 20.
Speaker 2Oh, okay. So you got what? Some vodka and tried taking shots.
Speaker 1Yeah, okay, something like that. It didn't work no.
Speaker 2He just got drunk.
Speaker 1Yeah, no, and smoking, and even secondhand smoke.
Speaker 2I don't like that.
Speaker 1Irritates your respiratory tracts and slows healing.
Speaker 2Okay. Number four pushing through without rest, we can jump over that one.
Speaker 1Exercising or working hard while sick can prolong the cold or lead to complications like bronchitis.
Speaker 2Bronchitis.
Speaker 1Yay, I did it.
Speaker 2Yeah, okay, so I'm going to get bronchitis.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, Okay yeah, that's for another episode.
Speaker 2That's bad timing. Yeah, you better prepare.
Speaker 1That's next week's episode.
Speaker 2What to do when you get bronchitis.
Speaker 1Yeah, how to cure it. Yeah, Number five taking too many meds at once.
Speaker 2Like the entire bottle of ibuprofen, yep, okay.
Speaker 1Combining cold medicines can result in accidental overdoses, that's not good. No, especially of acetaminophen. Yeah, that one Acetaminophen.
Speaker 2Yeah, that one Acetaminophen, that's the one, or something.
Speaker 1Yeah, something like that. It can damage your liver.
Speaker 2Oh, that's not good either.
Speaker 1No.
Speaker 2You need that.
Speaker 1Yeah. To clean the body To clean the house.
Speaker 2To clean your house.
Speaker 1Yeah, I use it as a sponge.
Speaker 2Oh my God, you just rip out your liver and start scrubbing scrubbing the floors.
Speaker 1It's very handy in the shower too.
Speaker 2Okay, you take your liver out in the shower and clean your body with it. Yep, all right Interesting, but okay, I'm not questioning you.
Speaker 1No, always read labels and avoid doubling up on ingredients. Okay, of the meds, I guess Right.
Speaker 2Or baking.
Speaker 1Oh, yeah, maybe. In case, you're making what is it called Sponge cake.
Speaker 2Yeah, there is a thing called sponge cake.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2With your liver. Yeah, oh my god.
Speaker 1I call it liver cake.
Speaker 2That's disgusting. Keep going.
Speaker 1Okay, number six, expecting a quick fix.
Speaker 2Quickie fixie.
Speaker 1Most colds take seven to ten days to clear up.
Speaker 2Disappointed.
Speaker 1Don't expect to feel 100% overnight. Why, even if symptoms improve, don't, don't I tell you.
Speaker 2But I want to.
Speaker 1Yeah, but don't no. That's not how it works.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Number seven, ignoring symptoms that get worse.
Speaker 2Oh well, I am like a professional at that. If I had hidden talents, that would be one of them.
Speaker 1Ignoring.
Speaker 2Ignoring symptoms. Oh, ignoring the check engine light and any sounds that the car makes. Oh, ignoring the check engine light and any sounds that the car makes.
Speaker 1Oh.
Speaker 2And anything that goes wrong with my body.
Speaker 1Any lights on your body.
Speaker 2Any lights on my body. Ignore it, it's fine, it'll go away soon. Oh, I feel a little bit lightheaded. It'll go over, it's okay, I'm fine. No, don't worry about me, I'm okay.
Speaker 1Yeah, I'm just gonna Ugh. That was me fainting, by the way. Oh, okay, okay. The verbal audio version of me fainting yeah, okay, I was a little bit worried that you fainted today, because when I texted you and then I didn't get answer.
Speaker 2I did not faint, I was doing dishes.
Speaker 1Oh, okay, faint into the dishes. I could have if I wanted to. Yeah, you didn't want to.
Speaker 2No, it's wet.
Speaker 1Yeah, fainting, that's because you want to Right, right.
Speaker 2Because I mean candy.
Speaker 1Yeah, I think I only faint when I have a, when you see other people having candy Right and I want some.
Speaker 2It's my internal instinct to just faint, so I get a little bit of that candy.
Speaker 1Yeah, okay, so ignoring symptoms that get worse. A cold that lingers or gets worse may actually be something more serious, like a sinus infection or pneumonia.
Speaker 2Sinus infections suck. Oh okay, I've had those before and it is the worst thing in the world Pneumonia. I might have had it before, I don't remember. I wouldn't be surprised.
Speaker 1Then, okay, that was that those lists. And then you asked Am I gonna die, is Lauren gonna die from this?
Speaker 2Okay, okay.
Speaker 1So I'm really sorry you're dealing with something concerning. If Lauren is experiencing serious symptoms from a cold or any illness, it's important to have a healthcare professional evaluator. Cold symptoms typically aren't life-threatening, but if she's showing signs like difficulty breathing, persistent high fever or confusion, those Okay, two out out of three those would be red flags okay do you want to walk through the symptoms she's experiencing?
Speaker 1I can help you figure out if it's something that needs more immediate attention. So then I Open Eyes. What symptoms is she having? I'm not sure what symptoms Lauren is currently dealing with, since you didn't mention them. Could you tell me what she's feeling? And then it asked about runny nose and sneezing and sore throat and everything.
Speaker 2I have all of those.
Speaker 1And then it asked me again what is she experiencing? Then I asked it what is she experiencing? Ah, I see, I don't actually have details about your specific symptoms, unless you share them with me.
Speaker 2Why aren't you sharing with me?
Speaker 1If you describe what she's feeling, I can help assess whether it's just a cold or something more serious that might need medical attention. Is she feeling more typical cold symptoms like sore throat or congestion, or is she having more? Concerning symptoms, let me know and I'll do my best to help.
Speaker 2Say I'm concerned.
Speaker 1I wrote I don't know and it says gotcha. So you're not sure what Lauren's going through right now.
Speaker 2You really don't. No, I think that is the key point, right there.
Speaker 1You don't know what I'm going through. No, you don't get it. Yeah, can you ask?
Speaker 2about the milkshakes.
Speaker 1Oh yeah, Milkshakes.
Speaker 2Will four milkshakes in a row? Help Lauren.
Speaker 1Okay, drinking four milkshakes in a row is very unlikely to help with Lauren's cold. That's disappointing, and it might actually make things worse. Oh, here's why it might not help. Dairy can thicken mucus for some people, which might make Lauren feel more congested, though this varies person to person.
Speaker 2Okay, I'm going to assume I'm not that person, exactly, yeah.
Speaker 1Cold drinks can temporarily soothe a sore throat, but drinking several might chill her body too much or irritate her throat more.
Speaker 2Oh, felt good at the moment.
Speaker 1You weren't irritated. I was only irritated because I was getting full oh and I couldn't have any more high sugar content in milkshakes can suppress the immune system if consumed in large amounts okay, whatever so what will help with the cold Warm fluids? Five milkshakes, yeah, tea with honey or bras.
Speaker 2Bras Okay. Tea with honey or bras, yeah.
Speaker 1Rest staying hydrated. I mean, we already went through that.
Speaker 2Yeah, we don't need to say it again. All right, all right, fine. Yeah, we don't need to say it again, alright, alright.
Speaker 1So verdict Unless Lauren just really wants a milkshake to cheer up four in a row probably isn't a good idea for her cold.
Speaker 2Okay, but I will not be happy with less than four milkshakes.
Speaker 1One might be fine as a treat, but it's not a remedy. Whatever OpenEyes knows nothing.
Final Thoughts and Episode Wrap-up
Speaker 2Nothing AI these days. Yeah, so dumb.
Speaker 1Yeah, back in our days, the AIs were so much better.
Speaker 2Non-existent, exactly. Thank you for helping me.
Speaker 1You're welcome. Did you have more?
Speaker 2questions. No, can I go to bed? Is my question. I'm going to ask you don't have to ask, Open Eyes.
Speaker 1It says no.
Speaker 2Not yet.
Speaker 1Okay.
Speaker 2But thank you for informing me.
Speaker 1You're welcome.
Speaker 2And I feel like I've learned a lot today.
Speaker 1Yeah, I did too. Okay, and then Open Eyes just decided to be stupid.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Because it gave the answer we didn't want.
Speaker 2Right. So, as we near the end of this episode, would you like to tell me what is ruining your life?
Speaker 1I'm not sure what's ruining my life actually.
Speaker 2You're just perfect.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's what's ruining my life. I'm too perfect.
Speaker 2As usual.
Speaker 1What's ruining your life?
Speaker 2My nose, my throat, that's pretty much it. That's it yeah, yeah, my cold.
Speaker 1Okay, maybe I should look up how to, you know, make it better or something.
Speaker 2We'll save that for another day. Okay, I'm all out of sips.
