Cold Open And Welcome

SPEAKER_00

In a world where everything is unscripted, this is roasty, toasty, roasty.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, let's get through this. Like, uh, we're not gonna edit. Okay. Okay. Quick and easy. Quick and easy. Would you like to open this up? Yes. Cool. One, two, three. Bam, done. Yes. Slurp, slurp, slurp.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, hello and welcome to Roasty Toasty Ghosty. My name is Matthias.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm Lauren.

SPEAKER_00

And we're gonna be your besties for an hour or so.

SPEAKER_01

That's right.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You've made it to the podcast in which you won't learn anything at all.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly where you're supposed to be. And that's always fun.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it I think so.

SPEAKER_01

Feel welcome and among people who just we get you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Hopefully you have a good time, though.

SPEAKER_01

We're looking forward to laughing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Whenever that will be, don't know.

SPEAKER_00

To laugh at you.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. I'm funny. Yeah. I don't know. Uh-oh.

SPEAKER_00

You're too humble.

SPEAKER_01

You know, that's a word that I never really I don't get.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

But okay. We'll get to that word at another time.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. In Swedish it's erdmuk.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. It took me a while to figure that one out too. Yeah. But I I figured it out by myself.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean like erd, it sounds like erd or like erdet. Like destiny.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's your fate.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Fate soft.

SPEAKER_01

Soft?

SPEAKER_00

Soft.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, soft.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Fate soft.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Mute is soft. Yeah. I was like, no, that's not what it means. But uh yeah, um, it's a soft fate. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You're too soft fated.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not sure. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

How are you doing?

SPEAKER_01

I'm doing good.

SPEAKER_00

Good.

SPEAKER_01

How are you?

SPEAKER_00

I'm doing better. Um I had a cold this week.

SPEAKER_01

Alright.

SPEAKER_00

So but it it feels better today.

SPEAKER_01

Good.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. Uh so to round up your week, what have you done?

SPEAKER_00

Um should we take uh each day like Did we do anything last weekend? We did, kinda.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah. We were supposed to do live Mad Libs. It didn't happen because other things happened instead.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. We we recorded though.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, we did.

SPEAKER_00

On Saturday.

SPEAKER_01

And we said that we were gonna go live, and then we didn't.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but I didn't keep that in the episode.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay. Yep. If you want that part, you can subscribe to our uh podcast and support us.

SPEAKER_00

And then you will hear us saying how hear us lie.

SPEAKER_01

You can listen to us lie about going live.

SPEAKER_00

You can listen to all of our lies there.

SPEAKER_01

If you're wondering what all the leftover episodes are, that's everything that we've cut out from the episode.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Everything that w it was material, but we just didn't keep it.

SPEAKER_00

It can be funny things, stumbles, dramatic things, even.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yes, there's drama in the leftovers.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

If you want to listen to us argue over petty things, then that's where you want to go.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's the place place to go.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so uh you can find how to subscribe to us on Buzz Sprout.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

On our website. And yeah, enjoy is all I can say.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So back to Saturday.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. We did watch a movie.

SPEAKER_01

We did.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah, you had Fika first. But maybe we talked about that.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I I don't remember.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, we had birthday Fika with Sick Child's uh grandmother and family. Uh yeah. And then I picked you up and brought you to my place and we watched a movie. And then we decided we're not gonna go live, and I played a video game instead. I'm sorry. I did not play the video game. I started it and then I asked someone else to play for me. And then I turned it off.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And I brought you home.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And that is what happened.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. We watched Scary Movie 3.

SPEAKER_01

That's right. Uh, do you want to talk about that one?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

We can do that.

SPEAKER_01

Um, I don't think we need to really break it down though.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

It's just a funny movie.

SPEAKER_00

It's a funny movie. It's a parody of among other uh signs and uh 8 Mile. That's my plan for last week. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And there was also The Ring?

SPEAKER_00

Uh yes, The Ring and some Matrix too.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, there was some Matrix. It was funny.

SPEAKER_00

It was.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I I think I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I I just thought it was so funny that uh um Charlie Sheen did uh the parody of uh Mel Gibson.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

In that one. Uh because it it just since we watched both of them.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I like that.

SPEAKER_01

It was good.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And then on Sunday?

SPEAKER_00

On Sunday, I what? Did I see you on Sunday? Did we go to a store?

SPEAKER_01

I am. Um my daughter went to gymnastics and we went shopping while she was at gymnastics.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And uh Yeah, I mean it I don't think it was anything really exciting. No. Well, I mean, it was it was fun, of course.

SPEAKER_00

It was fun.

SPEAKER_01

And then you got snacky.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And you could not decide what you wanted, but you knew you wanted something.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

A difficult situation.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I know. I know. But we we had some gingerbread Oreos.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And those are good.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I like them.

SPEAKER_01

And we also got kettle corn with cinnamon.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah. The popcorn. Popcorn.

SPEAKER_01

Which was I I liked it.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Yeah, i it was okay.

SPEAKER_01

It it's sweet popcorn. I like it. Okay. Um, but yeah, that was basically it on Monday.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. I went to work work night.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

For one day.

SPEAKER_01

And so did I.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah. You did.

SPEAKER_01

Because uh I went and I I took the bus with you and I walked to work with you, and then I actually caught the train to work.

SPEAKER_00

Wow. You you were on the right side.

SPEAKER_01

I was on the correct side. Apparently they were only using one side.

SPEAKER_00

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

Now. I don't know why they're not using the other side, but that's just what happened. I don't know. I was ignorant to the signs. Uh yeah. But I got into town gun kind of early. So I walked around, I did some shopping before I went to work.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And that was that.

SPEAKER_00

I um and I uh discovered that I was sick during that night. So yeah, that uh wasn't great. No, I didn't feel too well when I went home. And yeah, the day after I stayed home, and I've I've been home the rest of the week.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um uh I've actually been going to the gym this week.

SPEAKER_00

Good.

SPEAKER_01

I've been kind of good. I've been going to school. I had three math classes and uh my first Swedish class of this term. So there was that. And oh what else? I uh taught gymnastics yesterday, and then I led spinning right after, which was an experience. Uh yeah. I I feel like I've been struggling with my gymnastics group. No one listens to me. No, it's uh quickly becoming a problem. But it was nice going from kids to leading adults, yeah. Older adults, everyone's older than me there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And uh it's nice.

SPEAKER_00

It's easier.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and like with adults, they uh they just listen to their bodies. Yeah. You know? If they can't keep up, then that's okay. Uh but with kids, usually you push them to do more.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Um would be kind of cruel if you did that to older people.

SPEAKER_01

I've got this group of old ladies who's like, come on, grandma, let's go. Push harder. Go, go, go. I think I I'm getting a heart attack. You're making things up. Keep going. No one likes a liar. Um, so yeah, uh it was kind of nice. I haven't led spinning in a really long time. I haven't even gone to spinning in a long time. So there's that.

SPEAKER_00

Hey grandma, if you keep playing like that, I'm gonna put you in the leftovers.

SPEAKER_01

Put you in the leftovers. Drama queen.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, uh, well, that was yesterday, and today is Friday.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Uh it's Friday.

SPEAKER_01

It is Friday. The today is November 7th. We are getting close to our is it, it's on three years, is it?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Three years uh anniversary or what whatever we even call it.

SPEAKER_01

I think it would be an anniversary of the podcast.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

Sunday Errands And Snacks

SPEAKER_01

So uh yeah, we're in November. Happy fall. It's been fall for a while, but continuation of fall.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. We're continuing falling.

SPEAKER_01

Happy midfall.

SPEAKER_00

Um soon we hit the ground.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yes, it comes quicker than you think.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, slow fall.

SPEAKER_01

It's a slow fall. Too bad. Um, okay, so uh right. We watched movies. Would you like to move beyond?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, let's uh movie on.

SPEAKER_01

What?

SPEAKER_00

Let's uh movie on.

SPEAKER_01

Why do you have to uh let's move beyond. Thank you. Today it it's it's it's only two in the afternoon. It's almost two thirty. So we're we're here. It's not the middle of the night. Very exciting. So we had a movie morning. Um what? It feels like one more time.

SPEAKER_00

Um true.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, thank you.

SPEAKER_00

It feels like I'm uh interrupting you with Yes. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Um to today we this morning, today, uh, which was the same day as this morning. Um tonight.

SPEAKER_00

Uh tonight.

SPEAKER_01

Well, no, it wasn't tonight because it's not tonight yet. It was this morning.

SPEAKER_00

It's the future. Yes. I'm future man.

SPEAKER_01

Fut future men?

SPEAKER_00

I'm future man. You know, I I see the future.

SPEAKER_01

You do. We're not gonna watch movies t later tonight.

SPEAKER_00

We already did that. And that's your thing. You're you're the history.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, I'm gonna tell you the history of when we watch movies today. Good. Okay. Um we watched License to Wed, not licensed to kill. No. It wasn't James Bond. We did see that.

SPEAKER_00

I do like that movie, though.

SPEAKER_01

It is a movie. We also watched Prison Man. Prison to Kill. Uh Prison to Kill. Kill the prison. Um we watched uh You Want Me to Help You? Stallone in jail. Yeah. I think that's what it's called.

SPEAKER_00

That happened before. It's not the first time.

SPEAKER_01

It's not the first time he's been in jail? No. Oh no, I guess not. Um it was a movie. We watched it.

SPEAKER_00

Do you want me to help you?

SPEAKER_01

Cool. That would be really, really cool. Cool, that would be Okay, Yoda. I'm Yoda now.

SPEAKER_00

Uh it's called I'll help you.

SPEAKER_01

Cool.

SPEAKER_00

Uh it's called Lock Up.

SPEAKER_01

Lock Up. So yeah, I was close. Okay. So I'm gonna tell you about um Or not you are. You're gonna tell me about the first movie that we watched.

SPEAKER_00

License to Wed.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_00

This is a movie with John Krasinski and Robin Williams. This will be and Mandy Moore.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, thank you.

SPEAKER_00

And Mandy Moore.

Work, Sickness, And Weekly Routines

SPEAKER_01

Many more. So many other people. Actually, we're gonna get to that.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, this is about a couple they're gonna get married. So they meet this priest, Robin Williams, and he wants What's his name? Uh Frank. Oh, okay. Uh, and he wants them to go through like a course um to see if they are compatible, kind of. Yeah. To see it's like a course uh where you go through like the worst steps of uh marriage so you can see what's gonna happen if you get married and if you really are compatible and uh yeah. I think that's the plan or that's like the uh the whole thing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's like preparation for marriage to put you through like worst-case scenarios and work out some kinks before you get married.

SPEAKER_00

Marriage will last.

SPEAKER_01

That's the goal.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so they go through a lot in just three weeks. Yeah, there are hijinks and uh funny stuff happening. I don't know. Uh am I missing something?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_00

No? What did you think about this movie?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_00

Have you seen it before?

SPEAKER_01

I have not.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

This was my first time. I liked the part with Robin Williams.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

He was fun. There were quite a few actors from the office. Just like the other movie that we watched.

SPEAKER_00

Night at the museum too.

SPEAKER_01

Right. There were quite a few there. And this one we had John Krisin Krasinski.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Because he has a simple last name. We also had Mindy Kaley from the last one that we saw.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she was also in Night of the Museum.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Three.

SPEAKER_02

Two.

SPEAKER_01

Two. Right. And Brian Bongartner.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

He played Kevin in the office. Oh. He was in this movie. And Angela. No, no, I didn't say the freak. I didn't call him a freak.

SPEAKER_00

No, you said three, but I misheard you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, Angela was also in this movie. Okay. She was not in Night of the Museum. No. Two. Or three. But she was in this movie in The Office.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And that's all I caught. That was there were four.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you also said that the director was Oh yeah, the director, Ken Quapis. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

He has also worked on The Office.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, cool.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, that's cool.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it was The Office Reunion.

SPEAKER_01

Pretty much. Partially.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, partially.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. It was a good movie though. I enjoyed it. It it's like a romantic comedy, and I I think I kinda like those.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I have a tendency to enjoy those.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I kinda like um uh romantic Rama Baba. Romantic comedies too. Uh-huh. This one was really funny. I laughed many times, but I feel like it was funnier in the first half. The second half was more drama. Yeah. It wasn't as funny. I didn't laugh.

SPEAKER_01

No, I think that was on purpose though.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but it felt like it went too much into the romantic. Yeah. It could still have had more comedy in the second half. But I still enjoyed the movie. It was really funny at times.

SPEAKER_01

Good.

SPEAKER_00

Good. And also, it was the first time for me.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you haven't seen this movie before either.

SPEAKER_00

Never.

SPEAKER_01

Cool.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And this was the last Robin Williams movie for now.

SPEAKER_01

We are gonna see Aladdin.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

That still counts.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_01

I decided Aladdin counts.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Of course. But uh that will be among the Disney movies.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Which will be in like five years. Maybe. Maybe. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Shall we talk about the other one?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah?

SPEAKER_00

Lock up.

SPEAKER_01

Lock up?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you can tell me about lock up.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna tell you about lock up. This is a movie with Sylvester Stallone and he is in prison.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_01

And he doesn't have that much longer in prison, but the warden doesn't like him. Uh so the warden uh tries to set him up to make him do bad things so that he has to stay for life.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And then The Warden Warden is Yeah, the Warden Warden?

SPEAKER_01

It's not easy.

Teaching Gymnastics And Leading Spinning

SPEAKER_00

That guy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Is played by Um not Mel Gibson.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I I'm sorry. Uh Donald Sutherland. Right. Yeah. I I I just assumed you knew I thought you were gonna say Donald Duck. Donald Trump.

SPEAKER_01

No. None of the above. No. Donald Sutherland was on another movie that we also watched.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Shadow Shadow Conspiracy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. And that was another movie that we also watched.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he also kind of turned out bad in that one. Hmm.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't see him as a bad guy, but he he has a bad guy. Yeah, he is. Well he was.

SPEAKER_01

He's gonna get you.

SPEAKER_00

Not anymore.

SPEAKER_01

Um Right. Uh I told you about the movie. Uh now I need you to tell me what you think about the movie.

SPEAKER_00

I I really like this one. Um it it's a more like uh um this is more dramatic movie and uh kind of like um a more heartfelt m felt movie uh from Stallone. He it's not just the action, um because he he has like a love life outside um the prison. He has uh his girl waiting for him and everything, his girlfriend. And uh yes, uh I I do like this one and uh it has uh like a twist too. Donald Sutherland is a he is a good bad guy in this one. Uh you can see the evil in his in his eyes. And the guard that looks like me is also a good bad guy. He's like the worst one of the worst guys and he kinda looks like me. So yeah, that tells you a lot, huh?

SPEAKER_01

I guess so. He also kind of shares your pet personality.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It does.

SPEAKER_01

The worst bad guy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I also like to beat on people.

SPEAKER_01

What? Matias. You can't say that. Uh, what was Stallone's name in this movie?

SPEAKER_00

Frank.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Who was the director?

SPEAKER_00

John Flynn. Mm. Flynn.

SPEAKER_01

And Mandy Moram. She played Rapunzel, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And and who was also in that movie?

SPEAKER_00

Uh the character is called Flynn Ryder.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Just I don't know, just things that uh I noticed.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And Stallone has a brother, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

What's his name?

SPEAKER_00

Frank.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay, okay, okay. Alright, alright. Um, did you say something to me?

SPEAKER_00

No, I didn't. What did you what did you think about this movie?

SPEAKER_01

I was into the movie. I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_00

Good.

SPEAKER_01

There were things and they happened, and I liked those things that I saw. Not in the way that it sounds like, but more like I enjoyed the movie.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. You were really into this movie.

SPEAKER_01

Really into the violence.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Prison violence?

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

No. But the movie was good.

SPEAKER_00

All men sweaty.

SPEAKER_01

Sweaty and like stabbing each other.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And uh dying. Uh that's the best part. Uh oh yeah. No, it was a good movie. I enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_00

Good. That makes me happy. And uh I like the um end credits song. That the this is the movie I heard it from.

SPEAKER_01

And that's when my daughter walked in and told you to stop singing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. Anything else? No. Alright, we're out of time for the first half.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

We will be right back after this quick break.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, this commercial.

SPEAKER_01

The these commercials.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh no, no, not yet.

SPEAKER_00

Not yet.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, goodbye.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, bye-bye. We'll be right back. Yes. Yeah. See ya.

SPEAKER_01

Bye.

Three-Year Podcast Milestone Banter

SPEAKER_00

You're not my friend anymore. No, friend amore. Friend's more.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not your friendamore. Friend amore is a new term.

SPEAKER_00

I've heard about friendemy, but. No, friend amore.

SPEAKER_01

Frenamore. It's a a mixture of languages. Could use it whenever you want to. It's trademark though. So every time you use it. Or is that copyright? I don't know. Every time you use it, you have to pay me.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Like, I don't know. A dollar.

SPEAKER_00

Shouldn't that be like for both of us, since this is our podcast?

SPEAKER_01

Or I said it first.

SPEAKER_00

You said it, but it's our podcast. Unless you can agree that you're the lead host and I'm the sidekick.

SPEAKER_01

No, that's not true. But since I said the word first, I get a dollar every time it's used. Okay. And you get like 50 cents. Okay. So really, if anyone's gonna use the word, they have to pay us in total 150.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay. I thought I thought the they were gonna give you a dollar so you could give me 50 cents.

SPEAKER_01

No. No, this is 150. And then I keep the dollar and you keep the 50 cents.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. That sure sounds like a sidekick to me.

SPEAKER_01

Uh no, no, it's more like I'm the main owner of the word. Okay. And you just happen to be there when it was discovered.

SPEAKER_00

But you also do understand that I can cut that completely.

SPEAKER_01

Well, the thing is that I always export everything as it is first. So even if you delete this part from your editing, whatever, like just delete, I will still have a copy backed up.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So no matter what you delete from existence, I will still have it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Not looking good for you. Should we get on with the episode?

SPEAKER_00

Okay. We can do that. And we're back.

SPEAKER_01

We are. We've been back for like 15 minutes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we'll we'll see if I keep the first part.

SPEAKER_01

Matias.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna teach you something today.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that's nice.

SPEAKER_01

Like I usually do. I'm gonna teach you something very important because I've found that we have a problem. As we usually do have a problem.

SPEAKER_00

Just the one?

SPEAKER_01

This I'm knocking out one problem at a time. Okay, yeah. Okay. The problem I want to work on today is the fact that you don't cook for me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's true.

SPEAKER_01

And why is that?

SPEAKER_00

Because I'm I'm a bad cook.

Movie Morning Setup

SPEAKER_01

Alright. Uh today I'm going to teach you, I'm gonna give you a crash course on uh for absolute idiots. Okay. So this should be good for you. How to cook food. Okay. I need uh truth or dare. You're gonna pick truth because you don't like dares.

SPEAKER_00

No, and uh if you lie, it's gonna end up in the uh leftovers anyway, so okay. Every single lie I will keep in the leftovers.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Uh so you pick truth. Do you actually cook food at home?

SPEAKER_00

Ever?

SPEAKER_01

Uh yes. I'm gonna go with ever.

SPEAKER_00

Ever, yes.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. What is your go-to meal? Or what do you if you're at home and your mom's not there to cook food for you, what are you making? Your best recipe or whatever.

SPEAKER_00

My best recipe. Okay, I'm I feel like um what is it even called? Like uh Fort Le Corv.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so it's like a big fat sausage.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that you slice.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And uh you fry.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

And then uh have some pasta for that.

SPEAKER_01

Macaronis.

SPEAKER_00

Macaronis.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. You just boil them and eat them as they are.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Do you put like butter in there?

SPEAKER_00

No. Maybe I should.

SPEAKER_01

You really should. Oh, it changes everything. Butter and pasta is I mean, that's a meal in itself.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Uh if you asked me when I just got pregnant with my first child, and that was my every meal. Okay. That was all I wanted was butter and pasta. Spaghetti is so good.

SPEAKER_00

But you know, the meals that you put in the microwave is also good. They're also good, and I don't have to do much.

SPEAKER_01

That's true. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They just uh they work. Yeah, when you just heat things. That's nice.

License To Wed: Cast And Takeaways

SPEAKER_01

Alright. Also, I I cook as well at home sometimes. Uh and I I have made lots of food for you before. What am I best at?

SPEAKER_00

Uh mac and cheese.

SPEAKER_01

That that was the correct answer. I am good at mac and cheese. Yes. I do like to make mac and cheese and I like to eat it too.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. That's kind of mac and cheese, but it's not you're missing the cheese. That's gooey. Yeah. Gooey. Yeah, I don't have cheese. Slimy. Yeah. I don't make it slimy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's good, but it could be more slimy. Okay, okay. Here is cooking for absolute beginners, the crash course for people who've never boiled water without supervision. Okay, of course, this is coming from open eyes. Open AI. Yes. Uh step one. If you want to learn how to cook, you need to understand what cooking is.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Cooking is moving your balls away from the microphone.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, what?

SPEAKER_01

Sorry. I okay, that's my first problem. Keep your balls out of the microphone.

SPEAKER_00

But it has enhances the sound.

SPEAKER_01

My yoga ball is like rubbin' against the table. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Rubber rubber rubber rubbin.

SPEAKER_01

Rockin' robin.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Understand what cooking is. Cooking is equal to heating food, so it's not gross or dangerous anymore.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

That is the basic description of the word.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you have to make things yummy.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Make it yummy and uh not dangerous.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. But not everything is dangerous.

SPEAKER_01

Uh well, pigs can be dangerous dangerous. Dangerous. Dangerous.

SPEAKER_00

When they're alive.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so you have to make them not gross or dangerous anymore.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

If you're into eating pigs.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I mean chicken too.

SPEAKER_01

Chickens are dangerous. Have you ever met a rooster? Oh my gosh. They're not nice.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'm always scared when I meet her. You know, when I walked uh here from where I live.

SPEAKER_01

Did you get chased by a rooster?

SPEAKER_00

No, but I saw one. Free.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like, I really hope I don't get chased by that one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Are there like um wild chickens out here? No. In Sweden? I not that I'm like uh little or they're chickens. They run around.

SPEAKER_00

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

Forest chickens.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think I don't think I'm wrong. I don't think they're called chickens though.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, what are they?

SPEAKER_00

Are you talking about like pheasants? Fasoner?

SPEAKER_01

Fa uh, I don't know. Pheasants? Pheasants. Pas pheasants. Yeah, not peasants. Forest chickens. Pheasants. No, maybe maybe that's what they are. Yeah. Pheasants. Okay. Maybe. Okay, so back to this. You're basically rearranging molecules until it tastes good. Step two. The holy trinity of cooking tools.

SPEAKER_02

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

These are the things you need to start. Okay? A pan for frying stuff. A pot for boiling stuff.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

A knife and cutting board for not chopping off your fingers or chopping your countertop.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. So that's four things.

SPEAKER_01

I yes. Did I say uh yeah. Okay. The knife and cutting board are in their own like shelf.

SPEAKER_00

Or you can go for pizza.

SPEAKER_01

Pizza is always a good option. But what if you want to make po pasta? Um, also pizza. Postas?

SPEAKER_00

That's a nice poster.

SPEAKER_01

Pasta. Step three.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

The magic ingredients. Okay? Okay. Salt, fat, acid, and heat.

SPEAKER_00

Acid? Calm down. I've been doing the wrong thing when I'm doing it.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So what you need is a remix of these things. Salt. It makes everything taste more like itself. Fat. Like butter, oil, baking grease. It makes stuff rich and not stick. Acid. Uh like lemon juice or vinegar. No, no, no. It wakes flavors up. They might be sleeping. Acid will wake them up.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Jumpstart em. Acid will wake you up, but maybe not for long.

SPEAKER_01

I've never done it, so I don't really know the effects.

unknown

Heat.

SPEAKER_01

The fire part. Don't burn your house down. I also read don't burn your nose. So I think all of the above is relevant. Step four. We have some basic cooking moves. I'm going to ask you if you know how to do this.

SPEAKER_00

Cooking moves is that like dance moves?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you dance while you cook.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, cool. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna ask you if you know how to do this, and then I'm gonna tell you how. Okay. Do you know how to boil like water? Yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

We are the dancing cooks. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I guess. Uh so you can boil pasta, potatoes, and eggs. These are all like basic things. So if you're like moving into a new place, all these are all the things that you need. Okay?

SPEAKER_00

Wait, uh boiling potatoes and eggs. I've done all of them.

SPEAKER_01

Awesome. So what you want to do is fill a pot with water. You know the pot that we talked about earlier that we needed to get?

SPEAKER_00

It's a one of the trinity.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Uh quadrinity, then. Oh yeah. Because there wasn't knife in there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, you want to add some salt to the water and then wait for bubbles, and that is boiling.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Those bubbles, that's what's the boiling part.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, I know.

Lock Up: Stallone, Sutherland, And Grit

SPEAKER_01

And then you drop in your food and cook until soft. Okay, uh I have a side note here. Because it says drop, like drop everything into your boiling water. First of all, that's gonna hurt because splash.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Also, don't be throwing eggs into boiling water.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

I learned this. Don't ask me how. I learned not to throw eggs into boiling water.

SPEAKER_00

Um it will crack and just explode. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it gets everywhere. Uh if you have an open egg in boiling water, the egg goes all over the water. It gets kind of like slimy and weird. It's a hard-boiled egg, but it's not in egg shape.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

It's more like splatter.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Egg splatter shape.

SPEAKER_00

That's uh that's a thing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

People do that.

SPEAKER_01

Do people do that? Yeah. Why?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Also, when? Ha why also why?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. Still. I don't remember what it's called.

SPEAKER_01

Is it like poaching, maybe?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think that might be it.

SPEAKER_01

But even a poached egg is still in a nice shape.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

You don't have the It doesn't seep out of the shell, I guess.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I don't think you have the shell with it.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_00

During that. Because it's yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I'm splattering eggs into boiling water.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And that's something you're not supposed to do.

SPEAKER_00

And also, do you really have to salt when you uh uh boil uh egg?

SPEAKER_01

I usually do. But I also heard that it helps um the e the shell come off easier.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I could be wrong. I could just be reading thing random things off of Facebook.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because uh I've never done that.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I uh but then again I I don't I'm not that uh uh You don't boil eggs because you're too lazy to take off the shell. No. But I I do rather fry eggs and I don't put any um salt on it. I I don't I'm not a big salt guy.

SPEAKER_01

You're not salty.

SPEAKER_00

I don't uh I can do without salt.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. You're not really that picky.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

I guess there is a limit to your pickiness. But overall, you'll eat what's in front of you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I mean, after living with my grandma who didn't see when the salt came out of the thing, you know, she she often had too much on the eggs, so they were really salty.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's not nice.

SPEAKER_00

No. And I rather have no salt than too much salt.

SPEAKER_01

Right. I think I think I'm the same there. Uh we're gonna learn how to fry food now.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Okay? Like eggs, veggies, and meat. Uh so what you want to do first is take your frying pan, the pan that we talked about earlier. Yes. You put it on your stove, and you turn on the stove, and you heat the pan with a bit of oil and wait like 30 seconds. So basically, my my rule with the oil is if it starts moving around like water when you, you know, tilt the pan, then it's done.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It's ready. I don't use oil.

SPEAKER_01

Do you use butter? Yes. Okay, yeah, butter's an option.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Or coconut oil, if you like coconut oil.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, sure. But uh I I I don't think I ever used oil for frying.

SPEAKER_01

Butter works well too. Yeah. It's it and it's yummy. Yes. I love butter.

SPEAKER_00

And I usually have uh uh have it cover the entire pan.

SPEAKER_01

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

So uh I noticed that that some people don't do that. At home.

SPEAKER_01

Not me.

SPEAKER_00

Not you. Uh I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Wait, what? They just leave it?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they just do a a few of the circles.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and then just they throw things into the pan.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think that was my rule number one here was don't throw things into never throw things. That was my own personal rule. It doesn't say that in here, but if you're gonna add things to your hot surface, don't throw it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. So we have a hot pan, toss in your food. Again, don't throw it. You can put it in gently.

SPEAKER_00

What's the difference between tossing and throwing?

SPEAKER_01

When I when I think of the word toss, I'm like a couple feet back, and then I'm tossing it like, you know, an underhand baseball.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And uh or like, you know, the the horseshoes. Yeah. I'd rather we didn't do that.

SPEAKER_00

So you have to be good at aiming.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah. There's gonna be a lot of food uh, you know, around the And then people complain that the kitchen's so messy when I'm done.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So open eyes says toss in your food, but I'm saying put it in gently. And then flip it when it looks brownish. I think that also depends on what you're making. The eggs should not be brownish, or else they're probably a little overdone.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Meat is already brownish, so what?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it is.

SPEAKER_01

Are you okay? Yes. Okay. Uh also don't poke it too much. It doesn't like being poked.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

But the thing is is that, um, do you make pancakes?

SPEAKER_00

Uh I have, yes.

SPEAKER_01

Can you flip a pancake?

Break And Playful Word Bits

SPEAKER_00

I can't. I'm really bad at it.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. That's like my special talent that I like to do, and it's fun.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I I have a hard time with flipping eggs too.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. Like just with the frying pan?

SPEAKER_00

Well, no, uh with the the even the spatula? Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Yeah, no, I I mean like just using the frying pan and then whoosh! Yeah. Throw it into the air.

SPEAKER_00

Uh I feel like it would be uh messy. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

It could be messy. If it's not done on that one side. Yeah. It's gonna be really messy. Um, okay, so next we're gonna talk about baking. Okay uh oven things.

SPEAKER_00

Can I just talk about uh vegetables?

SPEAKER_01

We can talk about vegetables.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, a little bit. About frying and cooking and I don't like cooked vegetables that much.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, you like cold vegetables.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I'd rather have them uh I mean broccoli.

SPEAKER_01

That that I feel like that should be an exception.

SPEAKER_00

That that's the exception. Otherwise, I kinda like the uncooked.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Like peppers too?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Okay. Peppers and absolutely carrots.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_00

I I don't like cooked carrots.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I mean it sounds a little unappealing just munching on a whole broccoli.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I don't I don't think I'd want to do that. Or cauliflower.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I never done that.

SPEAKER_01

So I I try not to.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Although the last time we had broccoli it was a bit crunchy.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah, maybe it was.

SPEAKER_01

Mm.

SPEAKER_00

Mm?

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

Cooking For Absolute Beginners

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That's just what I wanted to say. That I kinda like the uncooked uh vegetables.

SPEAKER_01

Now we're gonna talk about baking.

SPEAKER_00

Baking. Oven things. I thought you were gonna say bacon, but bacon.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you can you can fry bacon as well, but that is under meat.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Um, if you're gonna fry bacon, make sure you have a shirt on.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Just so you know. I've been putting my bacon in the oven lately.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, it's uh I mean it works. It I think it takes less time and it's less messy. Yeah. That's that's just me.

SPEAKER_00

Less messy.

SPEAKER_01

Less messy. Speaking of baking, uh, oven things. So to bake, you preheat your oven always. Um, because if you put stuff in the oven before it's preheated, then you lost like half of your cooking time, and then you have to double it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Then you put your stuff on a tray and bake until it looks done. I guess. The most common temperature for baking is 180 degrees Celsius or 350 Fahrenheit. Fun fact. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I didn't know.

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna get into some fancy cooking, uh sauteing, which is fancy frying.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Do you know how to saute? No. No. Okay. So you have small pieces and medium heat and keep stirring. Oh, it's like a walk. Walk. Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk.

SPEAKER_00

It's like a walk.

SPEAKER_01

It's like a walk.

SPEAKER_00

Let's take a walk.

SPEAKER_01

And then you're sauteing, which is fancy frying.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, okay. Um So we're not walking.

SPEAKER_01

We're we're walking in the summer.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I think. Then we're sauteing. Yeah. So basically what you have in your frying pan, it's it's a stir fry. Veggies, chicken bits, and other things like that. Or it could be like uh petit panna. Uh can you explain what that is?

SPEAKER_00

Pitipan la is a good way to use leftovers.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Uh to just uh dice uh leftovers up and put all in uh in a frying pan and just cook it like that. Yeah, heat it up and uh cook it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's not so bad.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

And then the last one I'm gonna talk about is simmering, which is for soups and sauces. Uh it's like boiling, but gentler. Small bubbles only. This is not for the big bubbles club. Okay. Yep. Alright. Uh let's talk about some basic meals. Okay. I've got three of them here. Spaghetti! Everyone loves spaghetti. Yeah. So you boil your pasta, and then you heat some jarred tomato sauce, and then you combine and add cheese. And now you've made food.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Right? We talked about all these things, like boiling and simmering sauce. Yeah. And then you put it together and add cheese.

SPEAKER_00

I like the what is it called? Minced meat? Uh ground meat. Ground beef. Ground beef sauce. Chutfa sauce.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's ground beef sauce. Uh yeah, I guess. I don't know. If I don't know if we have a name for that. No. Or we do and I don't remember.

SPEAKER_00

What's bologness?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. I've been asking myself that question for so long now. Yeah. What is bolognais?

SPEAKER_00

It might be bolognes or it's not.

SPEAKER_01

It might not. I don't know. Anyway. Mixed scrambled eggs. Do you know how to make scrambled eggs?

SPEAKER_00

I don't think I've done it.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Well, you're gonna have to do some shopping because there is a bowl uh required for this.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So that that was left out of our um original tools list. That's true. And also a fork.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, and oh, even more.

SPEAKER_01

I know. Yeah, I know. This was it was last minute, but we wanted scrambled eggs, so we have to go out and buy a bowl and a fork.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

The pressure, the panic, so much stress. Okay, so if you want scrambled eggs, you need this bowl so you can crack eggs into it. And also mix it with a fork.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Break the the yolk and stuff and mix it all together so it's yellow. Everything is yellow.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And then you melt butter in a pan, the frying pan.

SPEAKER_00

And I already got that.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Yeah, you already have a frying pan.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so that's good.

SPEAKER_01

Because we were prepared at the beginning of this.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

With a frying pan. You pour eggs in and stir slowly until solid but soft. But you wait with the salt until the end.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. If you want salt.

SPEAKER_01

I yeah, salt and pepper, and then it's done.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but I learned from Gordon Ramsay because I learned things from him. The AI version of the No no no no, not the one screaming in fire. But the one who was on YouTube once and showed me how to make scrambled eggs.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, that one.

SPEAKER_01

I think. He said salt it at the end, and he gave a reason for why.

SPEAKER_00

You forgot.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know why. You just said salt it at the end, and that's all I caught.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, okay, so That's your reason. Right. Because Gordon Ramsey said so.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, exactly. That's right. Okay, next is a one-pan chicken. So you have your pan. Yeah. Okay. The frying pan that you already had that you just made scrambled eggs in. You're gonna make the chicken now.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

You cook the babies, now you cook the mama. You heat oil in pan.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

If you want oil.

SPEAKER_00

It's gonna be a family dinner.

SPEAKER_01

Oh god. Yes. You got morbid. That's awful. I mean what I said was bad, but come on, you have to put it like that. Okay, so and then you kill the rooster just because he deserves to die.

SPEAKER_00

Of course. He was mean. Yeah. You chased me.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't like it. He doesn't even make it into the kitchen. You leave him on the side of the road.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Just kill him because.

SPEAKER_01

Mean rooster. Okay, so you heat oil in a pan, and then you salt and pepper the chicken breast.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

Boiling, Frying, And Baking Basics

SPEAKER_01

Uh, I guess. And then you cook about five minutes on each side and add veggies to the pan near the end.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And that's your meal. Meat and veggies. And then last, cleaning, which is the most important step.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Wash while cooking, not after. What are we washing? Wash what? While co your clothes, I guess. Everything. I must wash everything. Clean the house while cooking, not after. It wasn't specific, so I have to guess here.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh with hot water and soap. So everything is clean. The whole house. Never use metal utensils on nonstick pans, or else you'll ruin them. Also, if you have iron pots or pans, then you're not supposed to have dish soap on them or put them in the dishwasher, because that'll ruin them too.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. Fun fact that I learned in life.

SPEAKER_00

Gordon Ramsey.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe. Or several reprimands of my life partner. Don't do that. You're ruining my pot. I'm sure that sentence could be used in many situations.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Don't do that. You're ruining my pot.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I've heard it so many times.

SPEAKER_01

So many times. Uh actually, I've heard it on more than one occasion. Yeah. Uh different situations. Anyway, stop doing that. Okay, no, I'm sorry. We're gonna get back here. Uh step seven is level up slowly. Learn one new meal per week. So that is homework. For the people listening as well. If you suck at cleaning, also, maybe try cooking.

unknown

Try cooking.

SPEAKER_01

Give up on cleaning and start cooking instead. Learn one new meal per week. Here's one for you. This will be very good for you. Watch a one-minute YouTube short before trying something new. It doesn't say specifically what you should be watching, just watch a short. I have a sh on YouTube. Yeah. Before trying something new. Yeah. So you can watch, I don't know, Madonna doing something weird. Cats? Doing cats.

SPEAKER_00

No, I I've seen cats doing Madonna. Sorry.

SPEAKER_01

You can watch your shorts about uh cats singing to Madonna. Yeah. And then you try a new try to cook something new. Trying Okay. Um so now I'm looking for some extreme precautions for before cooking food.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So we're starting from don't die or burn your house down levels. Here's some extreme precautions you should follow before cooking food, as if you're s a secret agent handling radioactive spaghetti. That was a really weird uh opening.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So the extreme pre-cooking safety protocol is one, wash your hands like you just pet a raccoon. Maybe the raccoon should also be washing his hands.

SPEAKER_00

Or doing Madonna.

SPEAKER_01

Or doing Madonna.

SPEAKER_00

Oh. Uh okay, so yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Use soap and warm water. And then uh it has to be for 20 seconds minimum. So if you sing happy birthday twice.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

To your hands. Sing happy birthday to your hands. Because every time you wash your hands, it's their birthday, and you have to sing to both hands. Yeah. So you sing twice.

SPEAKER_00

One one to this one and uh the to the other.

SPEAKER_01

Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday, dear right hand. Happy birthday to you.

SPEAKER_00

I can do that faster. Happy birthday to you.

SPEAKER_01

It's always a race.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

How fast can I sing happy birthday twice? Okay. Dry with a clean towel. Not the one that's been on the counter since last week. Oh.

SPEAKER_00

Last week.

SPEAKER_01

Last week. Last month.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

That's a clean one.

SPEAKER_01

I just took that one out. Uh number two is defrost food safely and know the counter is not safe. If your food is frozen, thaw in the fridge overnight. Or put in a sealed bag in cold water, changing the water every 30 minutes. That's work.

SPEAKER_00

That's a lot of water.

SPEAKER_01

That's a lot of water too. Let's save the water. Or use the microfic. Microsoft.

SPEAKER_00

Microsoft.

SPEAKER_01

Microwave defrost setting. Then cook immediately. Never leave raw chicken sitting out. Bacteria multiplies like it's at a rave. Interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Kinda w weird how it phrases itself.

SPEAKER_01

Number three. Sanitize surfaces like you expect a CSI team. Okay. Wipe down the counter before you start. Use disinfectant or hot soapy water. Don't prepare food on the same surface as you opened a raw meat package.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Don't move your couch across the floor. I said stop.

SPEAKER_00

Is that also part of the cooking lesson?

SPEAKER_01

Stop moving your couch across the floor.

SPEAKER_00

Start cooking instead.

SPEAKER_01

We're cleaning the kitchen. You don't need to move the couch for that. The couch belongs in the living room. You don't need to move the couch to the kitchen.

SPEAKER_00

You said clean everything.

SPEAKER_01

I guess. Um separate cutting boards, one for raw meat and one for everything else. Check your fire zone. Remove dish towels, paper towels, plastic, or cra or cats from the stove area. If you store your cats by the stove area, you need to move them. Yeah. Tie back long hair and sleeves. You're not in a shampoo commercial, Matias.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

My long hair. And beard.

Sauteing, Simmering, And Stir-Fry

SPEAKER_01

Your beard is gonna fall into the food. Have a lid nearby to smother a fire, but never use water on oil fires. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I know that.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay. Uh know where the fire extinguisher is and how to use it. Maybe you should have a safety meeting for everyone in the building before you make food.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Just so everyone's aware that there is a risk.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. And everyone knows where the emergency exits are and that's probably for the best.

SPEAKER_01

Uh also inspect your equipment.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Insert joke here.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, leave that to the people. Alright. Make your make your own jokes. Yeah, make your own jokes and send them to us.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. Stovetop burners. They're supposed to be clean with no oil puddles. The oven should have nothing inside. Like, seriously, check. If there's anything in there, take it out.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no. Take that raccoon out.

SPEAKER_01

Why do you have a raccoon in the oven?

SPEAKER_00

Uh, because I needed to wash my hands.

SPEAKER_01

So you stored the raccoon in the oven. It's not a storage area. Uh the knives need to be sharp, which make them safer because dull knives slip. I think both are equally as dangerous. Sharp knives are just as dangerous as dull knives. They both can hurt you in some way. If if you're using an electric appliance, make sure your hands are dry and cords aren't near water. I've learned this the hard way.

SPEAKER_00

About the cords?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

We saw a movie.

SPEAKER_01

We did see a movie today. Um, but also I have accidentally pulled the plug out and I had wet hands and I touched the end on accident. I don't know how. Don't ask me how this happened, but I touched the metal part and I got a little shock. So don't do that. Um be careful with electricity.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yes.

SPEAKER_01

Prep before you heat, or don't panic. It also translated don't panic to French, which is why I paused because I didn't understand anyway.

SPEAKER_00

You know French?

SPEAKER_01

Not all of it. I know some of it. So read the recipe once all the way through. And then you chop, measure, and open everything bet before turning on heat. And once the pan is hot, it's too late to find the salt. Why?

SPEAKER_00

But I'm I'm thinking you only read the recipe once?

SPEAKER_01

You have to memorize the memorize the recipe, chop the things, and find the salt before the pan is hot.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh okay, whatever. Open eyes, I don't care. I'm gonna do what I want. Check expire expiry dates. Expiration dates.

SPEAKER_00

Expiry dates.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know why it says expiry. Expiration dates like a detective. Sniff things, which does not help if you are me or Matias. We can't smell very well.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_01

So uh fresh meat is supposed to have almost no smell, and bad meat smells like wet garbage. If it's moldy, then throw it away. And even if it's just the corner, that it doesn't matter. Throw the whole thing away. Clothing and body safety. So closed toe shoes. You have to wear shoes when you cook.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, of course.

SPEAKER_01

Uh hot oil and bare feet are not friends. French? They're not French. These aren't English words.

SPEAKER_02

True.

Simple Meals: Pasta, Eggs, One-Pan Chicken

SPEAKER_01

Based on my experience, I am usually barefoot when I cook. It's not my feet that are in danger. It is my face, my hands, and my stomach.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

They're all in danger when I cook.

SPEAKER_00

Why?

SPEAKER_01

My face because yes. Okay. Yeah. This isn't even a question. My face, because I get really close, and my hands, because my hands are in the pan, and my stomach, because I'm cooking food. I'll gain weight.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_01

No, uh, usually the oil splashes onto me. Okay. Some somewhere, some places, sometimes. Uh no dangling jewelry, Matias. Take off your jewelry when you cook.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And if you're wearing glasses, wear them because oil splatters are jerks. Also, don't wear glasses because of oil splatter, because then if you try to wipe it off, it's smeared all over.

SPEAKER_00

So you're supposed to wear them and not.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. So I I flip burgers for at work, right? And I for a living. Kind of. Yeah. I'm there once a week, but yes, that's my living. I broke my hand.

SPEAKER_00

You live once a week.

SPEAKER_01

I live once a week, and during that time when I'm living, I take off my glasses. Because, first of all, they're sliding off my face because I'm sweating and it's uh oil everywhere. And so I I'm not allowed to touch my face. So I I I can't push my glasses back up. And also, because of the oil splatter, it gets on my glasses, then I can't see because I want to wipe it off and then it's smudged across my glasses. And that's also a problem. So don't just don't. Just don't. Just don't.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Uh also know your escape plan. If the cooking goes wrong, find the first escape exit.

SPEAKER_00

Emergency exit. That's why we have that plan.

SPEAKER_01

Nothing's going right, I'm leaving. Is something that is good to admit, maybe. Smoke detectors uh are supposed to be tested. So make sure they work. Keep the stove in view. There's no just a quick TikTok check. I don't check TikTok, so. Uh yep. Have a plan for spills. So I'm I'm seeing like um I'm making soup, right? And the whole thing just falls over. I don't know how.

SPEAKER_00

So you're uh you're supposed to plan for that?

SPEAKER_01

You're supposed to plan for if your soup pot decides to take a nap and just falls over. Make sure you have paper towels, I guess. Uh oh, baking soda is for grease fires and paper towels or for everything else. Okay. Also, hydrate before you start because cooking is hot work. Drink some water, not wine. You are not Gordon Ramsay yet. Does he usually drink wine when he cooks?

SPEAKER_02

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I wanna know. Here's some things you should not do or avoid while cooking.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

This is the best part, usually. We have oh my goodness, 15 things. Oh that's a lot. Alright, let's get through this then. Number one, never leave cooking food unattended.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Cool. I trusted you. No. Um, that's that's probably a good idea. You can't just walk away while you're cooking food. I do it sometimes. Nothing usually happens. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

But you also like burnt food, so Oh, I do.

SPEAKER_01

That's a problem. Especially at work when they're like, oh, these are perfect fries. And if you burn them, you have to throw them away. I'm like, but I want them.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'm going to eat those.

SPEAKER_00

Those are the ones I want.

Extreme Kitchen Safety Protocols

SPEAKER_01

I mean, we would do a fry test. And so we'd have like a bunch of uh undercooked and then perfectly cooked and then overcooked. Yeah. And they're like, which one's the best? And I'm like, the overcooked, obviously.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Two, never pour water on hot oil or a grease fire. Oh my goodness, it'll explode and fire spread fire everywhere. Cool. Okay. Yeah, don't do that. Three, never cut.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Never cut.

SPEAKER_00

Never cut.

SPEAKER_01

Toward yourself. But I I read never cut yourself.

SPEAKER_00

Also, there's That's also a good advice.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I guess so. You're welcome. Yeah, don't cut yourself while you are cooking.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Number four, never use the same cutting board for raw meat and veggies because that's cross-contamination. Don't do it.

SPEAKER_00

You don't want to get contaminated.

SPEAKER_01

You don't want to get cancer either.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_00

That's how we get it.

SPEAKER_01

That's how it'll get ya. That's when the cancer comes.

SPEAKER_00

Knocking.

SPEAKER_01

Becomes a knock-in. Uh number five, which is uh the thing that I'm the worst at, okay, because I always do this.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Never taste raw batter, dough, or maybe maybe not meat. Okay. I don't I don't taste test the raw meat, okay? But it's the batter and dough that I always get a little taste. Especially if it's cookies.

SPEAKER_00

It's probably nush. Not not it's probably not. No, it's probably not just a taste.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, if we're making cookies, half of only half of the cookies get made. Oh, okay. The dough. Yeah. Before it goes into the oven. Yeah, but you're not supposed to do that because salmonella.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. In the cookie dough.

SPEAKER_01

In the cookie dough.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh or wait, no. Salmonella, that's chicken, right? Okay, okay. Well, it's raw eggs, right? Which is chickens at some point. Or I guess chickens are eggs at some point. So they both might have salmonella. There's also E. coli. Okay. Which is not edible cookie dough.

SPEAKER_00

Not Nicolai.

SPEAKER_01

Not Nikolai, and it's not edible cookie dough. It's it's dangerous.

SPEAKER_00

Don't eat Nikolai.

SPEAKER_01

No, don't do that. He doesn't like it.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Number six. Something I learned uh the hard way. Never cook with wet hands around electricity.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Don't be like me. Be better.

SPEAKER_00

Don't do that. Be better. We also watched a movie.

SPEAKER_01

We also watched a movie today. Yeah, they someone got electrocuted.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they didn't cook though, but No, they were being cooked. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, dry your hands first, uh or risk an electric shock, I guess. Number seven, never guess with salt or spice bottles. Um, I'm sorry. That's all I do. I don't measure my salt or spices. I just done.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Yeah, I don't use salt, so I don't.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, oh, if you accidentally dump too much salt, you can dilute it with more liquid or bulk ingredients, which is not something that I do. I just deal with my mistakes.

SPEAKER_00

I thought you were gonna say you can die.

SPEAKER_01

Or you can die. That's another option.

SPEAKER_00

Too much salt, you can die.

SPEAKER_01

Learn from your mistakes. Just die. From embarrassment because you dumped all the salt into your food. Yeah. Also, you have to ad admit that you did that to whoever is gonna eat, and they are going to die from your oversalting because they're gonna get dehydrated.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah. And uh you only got salt water, so we only have salt water.

SPEAKER_01

We don't have actual water. Um number eight is never overcrowd a pan. So don't put too much stuff in your pan.

SPEAKER_00

Too much people.

SPEAKER_01

Don't overcrowd. Don't put too much people in your pan. Pants. Your pants are only made for one person. Don't try to shove more people in there. This has nothing to do with cooking. Okay. The pan needs breathing room. Yeah. So do your pants. Number nine. Never throw frozen food into hot oil. They will erupt in fiery chaos. I don't know why, but don't do that because that's what it says. Okay. Okay. Also, it takes longer, I think, to cook. So if you're in a rush, then don't do that. Just thaw it before you put it into the frying pan. Number 10. Never use a dish towel as an oven mitt. It's uh it hurts because they're not that thick. Just don't do it. Yeah. That's dumb. 11. Never store cleaning products near food. I thought it was gonna say in the fridge. Maybe you shouldn't do that either. No. But it can contaminate food.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you have to pick one, either cleaning or cooking.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Are you gonna clean or are you gonna cook? Because when you're cleaning, then you can have your cleaning stuff in the fridge, but you have to take all the food out. If you're gonna cook, then you put all the food in the fridge and you take out the cleaning product.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean either you have a dirty home and uh eat, or you have a clean home and don't eat.

SPEAKER_01

I think that's basically how it is. Uh I I feel like that's how a lot of rich houses are. Like like mansions, they're always like super clean. You've never seen a dirty mansion, right? I've never seen a mansion. Anyway. No. Uh in the movies. Yeah. The mansions are clean. Right? They don't eat. Regular no, no. They go out and eat. They have a kitchen just for show. Just so that they can sell the mansion for a higher price because it's got a kitchen. Yeah. And then if you see movies with like a family home, then they're always eating, but nothing is clean.

SPEAKER_00

True.

SPEAKER_01

So there's that.

SPEAKER_00

Makes sense. Salt.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah, I'm I'm guessing in mansions you only have your cleaning products in the fridge.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but once you have kids, you need to take out the cleaning products and put food in there.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Solve that. Number twelve, never rush. Because that's when you can hurt yourself. Don't rush in the kitchen.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Don't rush in the kitchen.

SPEAKER_00

No rushing in the kitchen.

SPEAKER_01

No rushing kitchens. Don't rush in the kitchen. Okay, number thirteen. I think I got my point across. I was looking for a comment and that's all I got. Don't rush in the kitchen. Just repeat the title.

SPEAKER_00

Uh yeah. I don't Don't do that. I I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

No, just don't.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Okay? That's all. Number 13. Don't get distracted by your phone. Because that turns into burnt rice.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Then you have to do that.

SPEAKER_01

Can you make rice?

SPEAKER_00

What?

SPEAKER_01

Rice.

SPEAKER_00

Rice.

SPEAKER_01

Rice.

SPEAKER_00

If I can.

SPEAKER_01

If you can.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe I can, but I don't like rice. I'm not sure.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, I guess that makes sense. Why would you make rice if you don't like it? Okay. Pasta though. Have you ever burnt pasta?

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Good. Don't do that. It's not nice.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Number 14. Never cook angry, drunk, or exhausted.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that's a problem.

SPEAKER_01

You'll make dumb choices. For example, I can totally deep fry with my shirt off, which is something I often say. Yeah. That's usually how I start my morning. I can deep fry with my shirt off.

SPEAKER_00

So which one is it? Are you drunk or angry?

SPEAKER_01

Exhausted?

SPEAKER_00

Exhausted.

SPEAKER_01

All of the above. First thing in the morning, I'm angry, drunk, and exhausted. I can deep fry my with my shirt. I can deep fry my shirt off.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

How do I get my shirt off? Deep fry.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna deep fry it. Breakfast. Also, let's flip this omelet with my bare hands. Uh just don't do it.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_01

Um, don't flip an omelet with your bare hands. Unless you're me. I'll yeah, I do that sometimes.

SPEAKER_02

Oh.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but I I have had uh jobs in a kitchen before, so I can take a little heat on my hands. Okay. My hands don't like it.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_01

But I can do it. I'm that good.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh never oh. 15. Never refreeze raw thawed meat.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so once it's been thawed, there's no going back.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

And that was that was it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Do you have any questions?

SPEAKER_00

No, I don't think so.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. Are we running out of time?

SPEAKER_00

Uh, I feel like we're close to the end now.

SPEAKER_01

We're close to the end.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Alright. So then as we reach the actual end of the episode, uh, I I require some information from you.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I need to know what is currently ruining your life.

SPEAKER_00

This time it's easy. It's my cold. So that's what's ruining my life.

SPEAKER_01

Alright.

SPEAKER_00

What's ruining your life?

SPEAKER_01

What's ruining my life, I think, is the lack of people who join us for mad lives.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's sad. We have so much fun.

SPEAKER_00

We do.

SPEAKER_01

We would love to uh have more people to have fun with.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And support us. And we need more people to support us so that we can have more fun.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it uh it was so fun l fun last time when uh when we had one extra person. But uh now it seems like he's gonna work every time.

SPEAKER_01

Boring.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

No one likes working on a Saturday night.

SPEAKER_00

No. Stop that.

SPEAKER_01

Stop working on Saturday nights. Uh is that all?

SPEAKER_00

I think so.

SPEAKER_01

Would you like to wrap this up?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I should uh finish my sips. Yeah, so should I. You should.

SPEAKER_01

We should do that.

SPEAKER_00

I'm drowning myself.

SPEAKER_01

Stop drowning! You're drowning all over your shirt. Are you all out of sips?

SPEAKER_00

I'm all out of sips. So that means we're all out of episode.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, would you like to wrap this up?

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you for listening to this episode. I hope you learned something.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe.

SPEAKER_01

What have you learned today?

SPEAKER_00

How to cook.

SPEAKER_01

Good.

SPEAKER_00

And how not to cook.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I did learn a few things.

SPEAKER_01

I think I think we both learned some things today.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

We both laughed and had a good time, and hopefully everyone else did. Yeah. Uh s send us a text. It's been a while since I've gotten some fan mail. Fan mail mail.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. And uh give us that uh joke that you got.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we want your joke. We're gonna do live mad libs tomorrow, which is November 8th. Yeah. I know we lied last time about when we were doing mad libs. We are hopefully not lying this time, but you won't have time to be there because it's tomorrow and this comes out on Tuesday.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so it's in the past now.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, but our next live mad libs. Oh my god! Our next live mad libs is in December.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's gonna be drunk Christmas karaoke, live mad libs.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Right, yeah. And that is going to be December 13th.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I'm deciding that because uh it has to be before Christmas. Because after Christmas, we are going to be on adventures.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

The biggest adventure ever.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and that's perfect. December 13th, because that's Lucia.

SPEAKER_01

That's my half-birthday.

SPEAKER_00

And Lucia.

SPEAKER_01

That too. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's a thing in Sweden.

SPEAKER_01

We should celebrate me and Lucia and Christmas and Mad Libs.

SPEAKER_00

Do people know what Lucia is?

SPEAKER_01

We tried teaching about Lucia or you Yeah, I think we ha we talked about Lucia last year. Oh, okay. So go back to our last year episodes and listen about Lucia whenever that was. Uh you can check the dates. Mm. Okay. Anything else? No. Alright. Thanks again.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

We'll see you uh on December 13th for our drunk Christmas karaoke live mad libs. We only do it once a year, people. You gotta be there.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

And we'll be back next Tuesday with another super fun episode.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Not the three years yet, but the one after that, I believe.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Anyway, um, we'll be back.

SPEAKER_00

We'll be back.

SPEAKER_01

Tuesday. Thanks again. Yes. Have a great life. Goodbye.
