• Rocky V thoughts, the sequel pattern, and why the tone feels bleaker
• Murder Mystery as a modern whodunit, plus the Clue and Tim Curry comparisons

Okay. Yeah. Because then I would sit here.
SPEAKER_00Out of habit.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, maybe. Just sit here for a while.
SPEAKER_00Because you don't like to break routine.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00There goes that.
SPEAKER_06Out of your water zips.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06That means we have to start this.
SPEAKER_00Okay. If we have to.
SPEAKER_06Maybe. You don't wanna?
SPEAKER_00Just to get it over with. Yeah. Sure. Let's open this up.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I'm not even thirsty. It's still good though.
SPEAKER_00I don't usually drink energy drinks because I'm thirsty though.
SPEAKER_06No. But you know, when you get the craving, like the urge to to drink an energy drink. You know, I I get those. Okay. I guess I'm addicted or something. But I don't feel that right now. That's what I meant with that.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_06But before, when we were watching the movie, I had that. Okay. Now it would be nice with an energy drink.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. Okay. Well, here we are.
SPEAKER_06Well, well, well.
SPEAKER_00Welcome to the podcast which we are hosting at the moment.
SPEAKER_06Yeah?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's called Roasty Toasty Ghosty. And this is another episode.
SPEAKER_06Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's just another episode.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, who are you?
SPEAKER_00I don't even know. Does it matter who I am? No one knows who I am anyway.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00But in case you were wondering, my name is Lauren.
SPEAKER_06Yes. And I am Matias.
SPEAKER_00And we're gonna be here for a while.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And talk.
SPEAKER_06Talk and talk and talk.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So how are you doing?
SPEAKER_06I'm doing well. Kinda tired. How are you?
SPEAKER_00I'm really tired. Yeah, okay. I don't know. If you noticed, but I'm tired. Uh I I'd like worse. I'd like to sleep.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I get that.
SPEAKER_00It's it's evening. We had a movie night for the first time in a while. And uh I uh was so used to the movie days that uh this is this is difficult to get through. So I'm not a night person.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00So yeah.
SPEAKER_06I am a night person, but I had to go up early, wake up early, so you know that's my problem. I don't mind staying up, uh but uh waking up early.
SPEAKER_00Today we're both suffering.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
Gym Progress And Machine Confusion
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Do you have any highlights from the week? Anything super exciting happened to you?
SPEAKER_06I have to think about that.
SPEAKER_00We went to the gym.
SPEAKER_06We did twice. Twice this week? Yeah, and I went three times. Yeah. Okay. This week, I think.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you skipped a day.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because it was your mom's birthday.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's a highlight. Yeah. So I I skipped the gym to eat sandwich cake and ice cream cake. Sounds and drink monster. So yeah, that sounds like a fair deal, right?
SPEAKER_00I guess.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. When it's birthday, um I'm gonna be bad.
SPEAKER_00How do you feel it went at the gym?
SPEAKER_06I mean, it's getting better. I felt it felt like the first day was okay. When you were by yourself. Yeah. Um I I mean, I I just feel so lost and I I barely remember what what I used to do.
SPEAKER_00Even though we created a plan for you?
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I I need to check it.
SPEAKER_00You threw it in the trash?
SPEAKER_06No, I need to check that.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_06Mm-hmm. Okay, so well that was the Rocky plan, right?
SPEAKER_00Or not Rocky plan. It was a plan based on you.
SPEAKER_06Okay, okay. Yeah, okay. I I need to check that again.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_06Um, and um then second day it went better, and then you know, third day I felt like it went even better. So yeah, how did you feel?
SPEAKER_00Um, well the first day I was going through uh my regular gym routine and it was kind of messy because there were other people who were using like everything that I wanted to use.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I don't like other people.
SPEAKER_00So uh uh yeah, and the machines were confusing. I wish there were more signs on the machines as to like what they do and what you're supposed to do. Otherwise, I just look at it and be like, I I don't think I need this.
SPEAKER_05No, yeah.
SPEAKER_00We need to make another routine that is specific for this gym.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I first day I had trouble fixing the seat for one of the machines since there was so many people there. I didn't want to seem dumb, so I didn't want to like look too closely, so I'm like, uh, this is okay, I guess. So I just went with what it was set on.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Worked.
SPEAKER_00Alright.
SPEAKER_06But yeah, then the second day I I'm like, oh yeah, that's how you do it. And you used a rubber band?
SPEAKER_00I did. I did the pull-ups with the rubber band.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I learned that at my spinning course during the summer.
SPEAKER_06Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00So it was pretty cool.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Yeah, I'm I'm it feels magical. I'm too scared of the rubber band because I don't want it to smack in my face or anywhere else. But maybe I'll do that sometime at some point.
SPEAKER_00Sure. Okay. I'm sure you will. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Maybe.
Workday Chaos Books Spiders Sun
SPEAKER_00Let's see. Is there anything else? We worked together today.
SPEAKER_06We did.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. For the first time in over a year.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that was cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And I I dropped three books. I dropped one, then I had to pick that up, then another one fell, and I picked that up, then the third one fell. I'm like, what is going on?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It was kind of messy.
SPEAKER_06And then the boss people were mocking me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I had a small spider on me today at lunch. I didn't want to say anything because I know the some of the people freak out when there are spiders there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's probably best that we didn't. Or you didn't say anything.
SPEAKER_06No. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I felt like I was gonna get sunburned out there. The sun was on me and it was nice. But then when we went inside, I uh I I could feel that I had been sitting in the sun for a while and my my skin was getting kind of red. It was like, uh I don't think I actually got burned. I think it went away. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06And it felt like a bug crashed into my head today.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, I was trying to ask you a question. You were just trying to subtly ignore me.
SPEAKER_06Well, I felt the bug. Or someone was was throwing food or something at my head. I don't know. That's probable. Something in in the back of my head.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. I feel like people would do that.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Anyway.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00It is Friday.
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_00It's it's May.
SPEAKER_06Yeah?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_05It is. Still.
SPEAKER_00It's May 8th. And uh we watch movies.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we did.
SPEAKER_00Would you like to move on?
SPEAKER_06Let's move on.
Rocky V Review And Franchise Pattern
SPEAKER_00Okay. So tonight we watched Rocky V and Murder Mystery.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_00So I will start off with Rocky V.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_00This is a movie with Stallone and another guy who he meets and he trains the guy, and then they get in a fight. Uh Rocky is also broke in this movie, so he loses everything and becomes a street fighter.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Also, uh, he abandons his kid again, who really needs his help, but never really gets the help. No. He finds the help from someone else.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And deals with his own problems, which is something that my children cannot do. So yeah, that's this movie. What do you think about it?
SPEAKER_06I mean, out of the Rocky movies, I'm not the biggest fan of this one. I guess it's okay, but according to Stallone, this is the worst Rocky movie.
SPEAKER_00Ever.
SPEAKER_06Ever.
SPEAKER_00Worst Rocky movie ever.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, I can already tell you that there is a pattern with these movies.
SPEAKER_03Okay? Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00So it starts off with half of the last movie. Okay. So you really get to know what happened in the last movie. And then something happens and Rocky gets sad and he says, I'm never boxing ever again.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then something happens and it triggers him, and then he fights anyway. Yeah. The end. And that's that's my prediction for next movie too. Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_06Okay. The thing is, it's supposed to go back to like the basics to like the first two movies before he got rich and everything. So that's why they make him lose all his money and everything. And then we get this bleaker, almost depressed feeling. It's kind of weird because three and four, those are like the most colorful, almost feel positive movies. And those are the ones with the character deaths. So it's kind of weird that those are the ones that feel more positive than the other ones without deaths.
SPEAKER_00Right. I left out the fact that Stallone's son plays Stallone's son.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00In this movie. So that's kind of cool.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And his wife, Adrian, she only yells in this movie. Yeah. She doesn't have any speaking roles. She is just yelling at everyone.
SPEAKER_06Yelling roles.
SPEAKER_00She's not a happy person.
SPEAKER_06No. She's gone a long way from the first movie.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. She went from not talking at all and being super shy to just yelling at everyone.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I don't know. Not the best Rocky movie. What did you think?
SPEAKER_00I didn't mind it. I kinda like the the end fight, but I mean it's different.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. A street fight instead of in a ring.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I like that part.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That's all. Next movie?
Murder Mystery And Clue Vibes
SPEAKER_06Next movie, Murder Mystery. So this movie stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston.
SPEAKER_00It's a sequel.
SPEAKER_06Almost. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00With different character names.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, exactly. So in this one, they are going on a honeymoon trip to Europe and then get involved with like a murder plot, right? And they have to solve the murder because they get blamed for it. They're the suspects. It's Adam Sandler, so it's funny too. Funny characters and stuff like that. And he says weird things. And what did you think about this movie?
SPEAKER_00I thought it was funny. I liked it. I enjoyed it. I haven't seen it before. Okay. So um I thought it was interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Did you figure out the mystery?
SPEAKER_00At the end, yeah, when they said it.
SPEAKER_06Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. When it was revealed.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Then I was like, ah, I know who did it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Solved it just now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Ah, that makes sense. Oh, that was wrong? Aha, well that one makes sense too. And yeah, that's that was my thoughts.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Then the movie's over.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Like, solved it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Then next.
SPEAKER_00What did you think about the movie?
SPEAKER_06Uh yeah, I I've seen it once before. And I do really enjoy this one. It's it's a fun movie. Um yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it was like Clue.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, very much.
SPEAKER_00Which was fun, but Tim Curry was not in this movie.
SPEAKER_06No. And it's kind of funny that you even asked that question.
SPEAKER_00Like if Tim Curry was in the movie. Well, that's because the first murder victim, he comes in with his cane and he like hits it on he he loudly hits it on the floor as he walks.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Kind of like Tim Curry did in Rocky Horror.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But um and then and then the movie ended up being quite similar to Clue.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. So it's like a bridge between Rocky Horror and um he wasn't there. No.
SPEAKER_00He had already had a stroke by the time this movie was filmed.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I'm sure he was considered how cool would that be.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Thinking about it, he would have been like the murder victim, so he wouldn't have had that much of a screen time. But yeah, I don't know how how able he would have been to do the not at the time.
SPEAKER_00No. No, no. He's had a long road. Anyway. He wasn't in the movie, but it was very similar to Clue. Yeah. With like how the first murder was done. But they were on a boat. Yeah. They weren't in a castle.
SPEAKER_06No. They didn't stay on the same.
SPEAKER_00No, they didn't stay on the boat.
SPEAKER_06So they moved around.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Clue on the move.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I guess so. Anything else?
SPEAKER_06Uh no. We both liked it.
SPEAKER_00We did.
SPEAKER_06Good. So yeah, that's all that matters. Yeah.
Intermission Music Break
SPEAKER_00Alright. Well, it's about time to take a break.
SPEAKER_06I guess so.
SPEAKER_00So let's enjoy some fun intermission music.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00We'll be right back.
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_00And we are back.
SPEAKER_05Yay! Okay.
SPEAKER_00Here we are. Yep. Part two. Today we are recording number 180. Wow. Which is crazy.
SPEAKER_06That's that's a lot of episodes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's it's feeling like a bit too many. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Maybe. Yeah. Uh I mean, we've been doing this for three and like half years.
SPEAKER_00Or something.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, something like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. How do you feel about this? Is it worth going on?
SPEAKER_06I don't know. I mean, you do most of the work, I have to say though.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Sometimes you do most of the work.
SPEAKER_06Hmm.
SPEAKER_00I feel like we I go on vacations and cruises and stuff while you edit.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but you do like all the uh fixing and everything.
SPEAKER_00Hmm. I'm I've been very lazy with the social medium. Okay. I have not been keeping up with it very well. And then sometimes I have to like post a lot of things at once to catch up.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, like three weeks. So yeah, um, I haven't even posted last weeks yet.
SPEAKER_06No, okay. I uh do you check for uh fan mails and stuff like that?
SPEAKER_00I do. Actually, I was told that that we got fan mail, but I never received it, but I can read it anyway.
SPEAKER_06Okay. So you didn't get fan mail, but you can read it?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because there was a complaint that I didn't read the fan mail, but I hadn't even gotten it.
SPEAKER_06Huh. Did she uh write you what she wrote?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Okay. Of course.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I Yeah, I assume it's a she.
SPEAKER_00Yes. I'm not sure. My sist my sister Heather. Oh yeah. She writes regarding Rocky and the exercise program. The Rocky Pro Rocky Exercise Program.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh she says, remember, you can't run up the stairs and celebrate unless you're at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Steps in Pennsylvania.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_06Because we're weren't allowed to run up the stairs uh in Washington, DC. She was very strict about that.
SPEAKER_00They look kinda scary anyway. Yeah. Why can't you run up the stairs?
SPEAKER_06Be uh because it's uh not the right place.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Alright. Yeah. No, I guess you're right. And also they look kinda scary to run up.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So if we ever go to Philadelphia, we'll have to do that.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Is the statue real?
SPEAKER_06I don't know. Need to check.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna Google map this. Okay. And we're gonna find out right now. Philadelphia. That wasn't correct. Uh it was the Museum of Art. I'm guessing it's this way. This one. This way.
SPEAKER_06This way. Let's go this way. Up the stairs.
SPEAKER_00I mean, it looks like, but that statue is not Rocky.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00I don't even know if it's the right one.
SPEAKER_06No. I feel like uh the Rocky movies are kind of iconic, so it wouldn't surprise me if there's or if there at least was an an a statue there. I know that somewhere they had a real like uh statue of someone like that, and then they moved it. They kept the statue, but not at the same place. Hmm.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if it was yeah, that's what it looks like, actually. Okay. It's to the side of the steps or something. Okay. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_06It's gone. It's hiding.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's it's to the right of the steps. Okay. Apparently. Huh. But I don't see Rocky. But apparently he's there somewhere.
SPEAKER_06Okay. He's hiding.
SPEAKER_00He is hiding. I don't know. I don't know. But you can only run up those steps, and that's what that's what was that's what we were told.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. And celebrate when you reach the top.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Anyway, what else what were we talking about? It's one in the 180.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And that means it's time for a history lesson.
SPEAKER_06Yes. That is.
SPEAKER_00Do you have something prepared?
SPEAKER_06Uh I yeah. Uh I I do. I do. I do.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_06So we were talking about um uh like our history that it's so many episodes and everything. But everything started before that, right? Like movie night. Right. And it's like uh five years now.
SPEAKER_00No, it's not. Yeah, it is. Yeah, it is, sorry.
SPEAKER_06Five years and like a month.
SPEAKER_00And a month. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Uh so yeah, I I want to hear the history of movie night.
SPEAKER_00Alright. I'm not even sure if The Rock is involved in this story because it's a personal story between the two of us. I'm gonna tell you my side of the story. Okay. And if you want to cut in with your side, yeah, then you're free to do so.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Because I I I do also I'm a part of this.
SPEAKER_00You are. Yeah. And you have a side of the story, but all I know is my side.
SPEAKER_06I have the wrong side of the story.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, we'll we'll see how much you remember.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_06So uh one question.
SPEAKER_00Okay, you're already we haven't even started, but okay, go ahead.
SPEAKER_06No, you said uh we'll see how much I remember. Did we drink?
SPEAKER_00Uh, we didn't drink.
SPEAKER_06No, because I didn't drink at all.
SPEAKER_00No, you didn't.
SPEAKER_06No. Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00That's all. It's it's more blaming the lack of memory than uh any alcohol being involved. But no, I don't believe that alcohol was involved at all whatsoever.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, we'll we'll see how much of this I'm making up and which is what is real.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So, all right, so five years ago, apparently, end a month or so. Yeah or something.
SPEAKER_06At an hour or so.
SPEAKER_00And two hours ago, uh we worked together at a warehouse uh with books. And I remember that. You remember that part? Okay, because it was a long time we worked together there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we sat together at lunch and uh we talked a lot, yeah, I think.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Or at least minimal, enough for you to catch my attention.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I didn't know that much about you. Oh, but I wanted to because you seemed interesting for some reason. Yeah. I don't I don't get it now, uh, but at the moment I was interested in you as a person. So I came to learn that you really liked movies. I was like, I often uh have to tell people that I. Have not seen the movie that they've talked they're talking about. I haven't seen a lot of the classics and I just never really had time for that kind of thing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. No.
SPEAKER_00Because I have kids. Right? So I just never I never did. But you have, and you like that kind of thing. And I was thinking I should catch up on the movie world.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Especially since I mean, I don't know at the time if I was really looking into working in film again. But it's been an interest at least. Yeah. The majority of my adult life. Uh so I stalked you on Facebook and I found you. And uh well, kind of because you didn't have a profile picture.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_00So I had to like kind of guess and find you there. And so I I started talking to you there on Messenger. And we had a really slow relationship at the beginning. Yeah. I feel like because it took a long time for me to just get your number to text you. Oh yeah. We only wrote on Messenger.
SPEAKER_06Oh my god. But I mean that's the thing with most of the people at work. I I'm just texting them on Messenger for Right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh which ended up being a problem at one point. Yeah. But that's a different story.
SPEAKER_06That's a different story.
SPEAKER_00Anyway.
SPEAKER_06Comment if you want to hear that story.
SPEAKER_00That's gonna have to be another episode in which I have to uh spill all of my shame and disgust with myself.
SPEAKER_06That's emotional.
SPEAKER_00It's an emotional story. Okay, anyway.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00So we were talking a messenger, and I subtly, because I'm very subtle, I brought up we should have a movie night. You're like, yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, no, no, I asked you what your favorite movie was, and you said Terminator, Terminator 2. And I said, I haven't seen that one, but I would like to. And but I haven't seen the first one either. So we should have a movie night and watch both of them. You were like, Yeah, sure. And so it felt like one of those things like, yeah, we're totally gonna do that, but then we just like don't.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know? Like uh modern adults do nowadays. Yeah. Like, yeah, we totally should hang out.
SPEAKER_06Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00And then it never happens.
SPEAKER_06I I I've done that to other people. Like, yeah, sure, let's do that.
SPEAKER_00How often do you say, Yeah, we definitely should do that? And but like in the back of your head, be like, I really don't want to do that.
SPEAKER_06I would never put it like that. I would never say definitely do that. Because that means like I'm in I'm very interested in. I would be like, Yeah, maybe. That that uh that's more my speed. Yeah. It's like I I don't want to say no, right? But I uh I don't want to say that I'm excited about it either.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, but the thing is is that when you say yeah, maybe, it always comes off as a definite no. So you just like drop the whole thing.
SPEAKER_06Okay, yeah. Well, that's probably what I That's the underlying message.
SPEAKER_00Um I feel like sometimes I say, Yeah, we definitely should do that, and then like in my mind, I'm like, mmm, I'm not gonna go out of my way to make this happen.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, no. I mean, other people at work uh asked me to do stuff with them, and I'm like, no, yeah.
SPEAKER_00No, yeah. Well how about a straight up no?
SPEAKER_06No, well, I say, yeah, maybe that's that's a no.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Maybe is it the people we usually hang out with or like all the other people who are like, we want to be your bestie too? Uh is everyone jealous of me?
SPEAKER_06No, no, no, no, the not the people we hang out with. No, it's uh a person he he doesn't work there anymore. But you remember a tall guy? He's like, we should go bowling sometimes. Totally, and I'm like, Yeah, maybe so many times. And he's and then like uh waiting.
SPEAKER_00You're like, I hate bowling.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, a few months uh he's like, We never went bowling, we should do that, and I'm like, Yeah, maybe.
SPEAKER_00Why do you want to go bowling with me? Yeah, why bowling specifically?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I don't know.
SPEAKER_00It's expensive going bowling, you know?
SPEAKER_06Luckily, it's not there anymore, is it?
SPEAKER_00Ugh, it's weird. We should go bowling.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we we have done that.
SPEAKER_00We have. Was it once or twice?
SPEAKER_06I don't know. At least once. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Children.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Apparently, Sick Child wants to go bowling again. Yeah, we'll see. Yeah, maybe. Which was the response I gave him. Yeah, maybe. Yeah. Totally. I'll look into it. I pulled up the booking site and then I closed it down again. Yeah. And that's as far as I got with that.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so sidetrack. A little sidetracked. Let's see. So we brought up I brought up, I'm very pushy. I'm a I'm a planner. If I want to do something, I go for it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I brought up the fact that we should have a movie night. And that's as far as it got for like a week or so.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. And then Did I say, yeah, maybe?
SPEAKER_00I think so. Yeah, maybe. So after the week or so of silence, it was just silence. He like stopped talking to me in real life and everything. Well, we gotta think this is uh 2021. So COVID is just kinda starting to calm down a bit, right? Um, I mean, it's still there, but it's it's calming down. And Sick Child was very, very young.
SPEAKER_06And uh he couldn't even speak yet.
SPEAKER_00No, he couldn't.
SPEAKER_06And I was still his own way.
SPEAKER_00Right. You could talk to him.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you guys spoke to me.
SPEAKER_00You guys had conversations even. No one understood what you guys were saying. No, but you had conversations and he was still nursing. So I was like a little self-conscious. Um, we weren't that close.
SPEAKER_06No. Well, we didn't have conversation the first time.
SPEAKER_00No, he oh my god, he just stared at you. He was like, What is that that you brought into my home? He just stared at you for the longest time.
SPEAKER_06I did I I don't think he even blinked.
SPEAKER_00No, he was just so confused.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00What is that? Um, so yeah, we're not even there yet.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_00Because we're still in conversation mode here. Um, so the week or so went by, and uh, I think I brought it up again that, hey, bruh, you said we were gonna watch movies, and we haven't yet. And so I asked for a date. Not like a date, not no, we're not going out on a date. No. I was asking for a date and time.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00When are we doing this? And so we had a date, a a day. Yeah. Uh a time. A time. And um, yeah, it was marked in the calendar. But that date came around and you were sick.
SPEAKER_03Oh.
SPEAKER_00And so we had to wait a while.
SPEAKER_03Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00And then we tried again. We came up with another date and time in the calendar.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
Scheduling Drama And The Terminator Double
SPEAKER_00And it finally happened, I think. Yeah. Yeah. And we watched Terminator one and two.
SPEAKER_05Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00And then we decided, well, that was fun.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Let's do this every other week.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because for some reason I was thinking, oh well, next week I'm gonna have the kids. But this is on Friday, and the kids have always been at their dads on Fridays. So I don't know what that was all about.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_00So we we watched movies every other week. And then we watched like Rambo and and all the James Bond movies.
SPEAKER_06The thing is, I I looked at the dates on the on our list. Okay. Uh, and uh it says that uh the first time was like uh uh April 9th.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_06And the second time was uh in May. So I think that there was like a a month gap between the first and second one.
SPEAKER_00Or maybe that's when you got sick, or maybe you got sick twice.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because there was a period when you were like getting really sick out of nowhere when you'd never been sick before.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Never in your life had you been sick until it was time to hang out with me, and then oh no, I'm sick.
SPEAKER_06I also remember that sick child sick child made me sick.
SPEAKER_00Every time.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Every single time. He was sick, and then you would get sick. Yes. You weren't used to sick child germs.
SPEAKER_06No, so I maybe I was like never going back there again. Yeah. And then like a month later you you made me.
SPEAKER_00Right. Yes.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. So do you Do I what? No, uh uh maybe you wanna talk about the first one. What?
SPEAKER_00The first what?
SPEAKER_06The first uh movie night.
SPEAKER_00What about it?
SPEAKER_06I don't know, history lesson?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well I I don't I I know I believe we got snacks, right? And I don't know what we had for snacks.
SPEAKER_06No. Did we start with chips like the first because that was like uh um I think so. Yeah. I mean that was the standard back then.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh yeah, we both got a bag of chips.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, I th we had like three bags of chips. One for me, one for you, and one for uh your life partner.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_06Because he he also watched Weirdos like every time back then.
SPEAKER_00He did.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna read our conversation.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00March 3rd, 2021. Oh. 1905. The year 1905.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I asked you, what's your favorite movie? You said, that's tough to answer, but Terminator 2 is one of my favorites. And then I said, then I have to watch the first one. Blah blah blah. Netflix.
SPEAKER_06And it wasn't on Netflix.
SPEAKER_00It was not on Netflix.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00Neither of them were on Netflix.
SPEAKER_06No, because I remember I brought my Blu-ray and uh DVD. And the DVD didn't even have the English subtitles.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah. And then we got in a fight, I guess. We did. We were you were trying to agree to disagree, and I wanted to disagree to agree.
SPEAKER_06About what?
SPEAKER_00Some kind of hashtag.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so anyway, you're mean to me, so that's what happened.
SPEAKER_05Sounds legit.
SPEAKER_00Right. Uh so it took us a while to actually talk about movie night from there.
SPEAKER_06Because I was mean.
SPEAKER_00Okay, here we go. This is March 10th. I say, uh oh, I asked if you you'd seen a certain movie. You said, yeah, many years ago. And you have to refresh your memory about that one. And then I said, we need a movie night.
SPEAKER_05What was the movie?
SPEAKER_00Uh O Brother.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then you said yes. And I said, then I can finally watch Transformers. I had forgotten the title, but I meant Terminator. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And now I look- Did I correct you?
SPEAKER_00No, I corrected myself.
SPEAKER_06Oh, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, hold on. I lost it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I mean, sure, there are robots in both Terminator and Transformers, but not really the same. They both start with T. Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so we um we uh derailed from Terminator for a while there. And then again, I ask March 19th. So it's gone almost ten days later.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00When is movie night? And you said, I don't know, I'd rather watch movies with my grandma. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Blah blah blah. We tried to uh book a day, um a day off, actually. Oh it was Long Fena.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00We tried to uh book, and then you got sick and you had to get tested for COVID.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I'm guessing we did not watch movies that night that we planned. And then there was Easter candy, and I saved some for you in a cup.
SPEAKER_06Classic.
SPEAKER_00And then you got the results, uh, abstembar.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00Not not determinable, I guess, if that's a word. Um so that was confusing.
SPEAKER_06They didn't know. Like, I don't know. Maybe it is and maybe not. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Then I got a doctor time for my hands.
SPEAKER_06Oh.
SPEAKER_00My hands were broken.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah, I remember.
SPEAKER_00Let's see.
SPEAKER_06We talk a lot.
SPEAKER_00We do talk a lot, but remember those times? Remember the times when we talked a lot? We don't talk that much anymore.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00Uh and then I had surgery. Uh. But the first day was in April, right?
SPEAKER_06April 9th.
SPEAKER_00April 9th. So, okay.
SPEAKER_06That's according to the list at least.
SPEAKER_00April 9th. I don't know if that was a good Friday or not, but we did watch movies on April 9th. And you didn't have COVID, and you could go back to work, and then I welcomed you over for movie night.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And then I gave you your cup of candy.
SPEAKER_06So that's how you lured me here or yeah, I guess so.
SPEAKER_00With candy.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You got candy, and I'm assuming we got chips, but I don't really remember. We didn't I don't think we really talked about the snacks.
SPEAKER_06No, it wasn't.
SPEAKER_00And we didn't even have energy drinks.
SPEAKER_06No, that was before energy drinks were invented.
SPEAKER_00And we were not I don't think that's true.
SPEAKER_06No, maybe not.
SPEAKER_00And we were not recording podcast episodes either.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00That came later.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. I don't know about the gap. I'm assuming that you got sick again.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, maybe.
SPEAKER_00And that's my side of it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if you have a side. Uh if you were thinking she's a creep and I don't want to watch movies with this weird random person from work.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I uh well, um like after the first I'm like, I'm never uh coming here again.
SPEAKER_00And then Is that what you were thinking? Like, I don't want to do this ever again.
SPEAKER_06At least not for a month.
SPEAKER_00Give it a month, see how I feel about it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. No, uh I had a good time, it was fun.
SPEAKER_00It was a little awkward that first time though, because we had never hung out outside of work.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00And you definitely had never been over to my place. No.
SPEAKER_06So and never met your son who stared me down.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And then yeah, the whole like awkwardness of still nursing him and everything. Yeah. So I like left the room for a while to do that. And yeah, it was just really awkward. And I was so self-conscious at the time too.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because I I have a hard time losing weight after having babies.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. What? And I remembered that you covered your couch with blankets.
SPEAKER_00Yes. We had a white couch. So all there were blankets over the entire couch because we had sick child.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. And you uh it felt uh you didn't wanna you you kind of felt self-conscious about the couch too, or Probably. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Yeah, because it was a bit stained.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because of children.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. But I br I remember that, you know, that just disappeared. The it's like, uh now Matias is a common thing over here, so we can show her.
SPEAKER_00Just get rid of the couch. Just get rid of the couch. We'll sit on the floor.
SPEAKER_06Stop him from coming here is get rid of the couch.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And like the whole process of convincing my life partner to just allow you to come over.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like, hey, I have this friend. Uh we're gonna we're gonna watch movies. Yeah. He's like, mm, okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You only have weird friends though. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Well, I'm not that weird.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_06Shut up.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
Building Movie Themes For Years
SPEAKER_06No. Uh do you remember when we were talking about the second um movie night? Because I I remember why uh we chose one movie for the second, at least one movie. And that was because we were talking about other Schwarzenegger movies.
SPEAKER_05Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_06And then we were talking about uh The Last Action Hero, which was from uh 1993.
SPEAKER_00That was on my birthday.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and then we checked the mm premiere.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And it was on your birthday.
SPEAKER_00So we had to watch it on my birthday.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, you you were like, we need to watch that.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_06But I don't think it was on your birthday, but it was before your birthday, I think.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, probably.
SPEAKER_06In May. But uh but that was like the reason why we had the second one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for the movie that was on my birthday. For my birthday. Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_06So yeah. And then we just continued and Yeah, then we just continued with all Schwarzenegger movies.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06So that was like the first uh theme.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We watched all the Schwarzenegger movies and then we watched a bunch of Stallone movies.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like uh Rambo and such.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That's what happened.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I don't know how funny of a story it is, but that's just kind of what happened. It was a slow process and life kind of got in the way at times, and but eventually we got around to it and here we are.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I mean, this time we it wasn't a silly history lesson. No. It was an actual history lesson.
SPEAKER_00It was a real life history lesson. Yeah. Or as accurate as I possibly can make it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. It didn't feature The Rock. Uh we haven't seen have we seen any of the movies with The Rock.
SPEAKER_00Um, if we have, it's only been a couple.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't think I don't think so. No. Which is disappointing.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but in the future it's gonna happen.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, no, I can't I can't think of anything.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00What is he even in? Other than like The Mummy, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And the the Ryan Reynolds movie.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we haven't seen that. We're gonna watch Ryan Reynolds next year. So is we're gonna watch The Rock. Oh, maybe that's well, it it's not a big secret. I don't know how big of a secret that is, but The Rock? No, that uh we're gonna watch Ryan Reynolds Ryan Reynolds movies next year.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, I I think it's okay to say.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And yeah. He was in the remake of Amityville Horror Ryan Reynolds, right? And there was a house that just went up for sale. And it partially looks like it it kinda gives me that house feeling.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Or at least the outside. The inside look pretty nice.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_00But I was like, I want that one just because it reminds me of that movie.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, uh, that's all.
SPEAKER_06Wouldn't that feel kinda scary though, to live there?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I think it would just be a fun fact of my life. Like I live in a house that looks like the Yamityville house.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Oh well. Well, you want all of the houses. I do.
SPEAKER_00Every time I see a house, I'm like, I can move in there. Yeah. No problem.
SPEAKER_06You want the drum cooking house too.
SPEAKER_00Yes. That one.
SPEAKER_06That one is really cool though. I I like that one too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I just want a house in general. Yeah. I really don't care.
SPEAKER_06No. You can always dream.
SPEAKER_00I'm a dreamer. And it's it's ruining my life. I have to get to this part so I can talk about what's ruining my life.
SPEAKER_06Okay, okay. So we're we need to wrap this up. Okay, you wanna do that one.
SPEAKER_00I do. Because I'm I'm done with the story. I have nothing else to say. No. Unless you have other things.
SPEAKER_06Uh no, I don't think so. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Then as we reach the end of this episode, you can start with what is ruining your life.
Dream Crushers And Closing Thanks
SPEAKER_06Okay. What's ruining my life? I mean the it's uh the I'm so tired. I'm uh I'm all mushy in the head now.
SPEAKER_00I don't know mushy head.
SPEAKER_06I don't know if that's a word, but I'm sticking with it.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_06Yep. So what's ruining your life?
SPEAKER_00I'm a dreamer.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_00And that's what's ruining my life.
SPEAKER_06Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I'm a dreamer, and people have this fun hobby of crushing my dreams.
SPEAKER_06Dream crushers.
SPEAKER_00Dream crushers are ruining my life. Let me dream, let me work for the things that I want, and stop telling me it's not gonna work out.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, not cool.
SPEAKER_00Not cool. So if I fe if I seem a little down lately, it's because dream crushers are ruining my life.
SPEAKER_06Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00But am I giving give up?
SPEAKER_06Never. Yeah, maybe.
SPEAKER_00Maybe on the outside. But I'm still crawling around on the inside.
SPEAKER_06Never on the inside.
SPEAKER_00Never on the inside. No. And it's probably gonna get me in trouble. But hey, hey, whatever. Let it let it happen. Yeah. I'm gonna be down for a little bit, and then when things start turning in my favor, then be like, I told you so. Anyway. I told you. Are you all out of sips?
SPEAKER_06Almost.
unknownWhy?
SPEAKER_06I'm all out of sips, and that means we're all out of episode.
SPEAKER_00So as we read we are as we let's wrap this up. Cool. That's a question.
SPEAKER_06That was the best sentence I ever heard. It was very well thought out.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. I definitely thought of what I was gonna say before I said it. That was scripted, actually.
SPEAKER_06Okay, yeah. Was it uh AI?
SPEAKER_00Maybe. Okay. Don't judge me.
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_00Let's wrap this up.
