Send us Fan Mail

We drag ourselves through end-of-week exhaustion, then somehow turn it into a full movie night debrief and a real conversation about keeping routines alive. We review Rocky V and Murder Mystery, revisit how our movie night tradition started, and end with what it feels like to be a dreamer around people who love to shut dreams down.

• energy drink cravings and the comfort of routine when we’re tired
• gym consistency, feeling lost on machines, and small wins that build confidence
• Rocky V thoughts, the sequel pattern, and why the tone feels bleaker
• Murder Mystery as a modern whodunit, plus the Clue and Tim Curry comparisons
• hitting episode 180, social media catch-up stress, and the missing fan mail moment
• the origin story of movie night, from coworkers to Terminator nights and long gaps
• building movie themes over time, from Schwarzenegger to Stallone marathons
• dream crushers, staying stubborn, and refusing to quit on the inside

SPEAKER_06

Okay. Yeah. Because then I would sit here.

SPEAKER_00

Out of habit.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, maybe. Just sit here for a while.

SPEAKER_00

Because you don't like to break routine.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

There goes that.

SPEAKER_06

Out of your water zips.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

That means we have to start this.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. If we have to.

SPEAKER_06

Maybe. You don't wanna?

SPEAKER_00

Just to get it over with. Yeah. Sure. Let's open this up.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. I'm not even thirsty. It's still good though.

SPEAKER_00

I don't usually drink energy drinks because I'm thirsty though.

SPEAKER_06

No. But you know, when you get the craving, like the urge to to drink an energy drink. You know, I I get those. Okay. I guess I'm addicted or something. But I don't feel that right now. That's what I meant with that.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_06

But before, when we were watching the movie, I had that. Okay. Now it would be nice with an energy drink.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. Okay. Well, here we are.

SPEAKER_06

Well, well, well.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to the podcast which we are hosting at the moment.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It's called Roasty Toasty Ghosty. And this is another episode.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's just another episode.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, who are you?

SPEAKER_00

I don't even know. Does it matter who I am? No one knows who I am anyway.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_00

But in case you were wondering, my name is Lauren.

SPEAKER_06

Yes. And I am Matias.

SPEAKER_00

And we're gonna be here for a while.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And talk.

SPEAKER_06

Talk and talk and talk.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So how are you doing?

SPEAKER_06

I'm doing well. Kinda tired. How are you?

SPEAKER_00

I'm really tired. Yeah, okay. I don't know. If you noticed, but I'm tired. Uh I I'd like worse. I'd like to sleep.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I get that.

SPEAKER_00

It's it's evening. We had a movie night for the first time in a while. And uh I uh was so used to the movie days that uh this is this is difficult to get through. So I'm not a night person.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah.

SPEAKER_06

I am a night person, but I had to go up early, wake up early, so you know that's my problem. I don't mind staying up, uh but uh waking up early.

SPEAKER_00

Today we're both suffering.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

Gym Progress And Machine Confusion

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Do you have any highlights from the week? Anything super exciting happened to you?

SPEAKER_06

I have to think about that.

SPEAKER_00

We went to the gym.

SPEAKER_06

We did twice. Twice this week? Yeah, and I went three times. Yeah. Okay. This week, I think.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you skipped a day.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because it was your mom's birthday.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, that's a highlight. Yeah. So I I skipped the gym to eat sandwich cake and ice cream cake. Sounds and drink monster. So yeah, that sounds like a fair deal, right?

SPEAKER_00

I guess.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. When it's birthday, um I'm gonna be bad.

SPEAKER_00

How do you feel it went at the gym?

SPEAKER_06

I mean, it's getting better. I felt it felt like the first day was okay. When you were by yourself. Yeah. Um I I mean, I I just feel so lost and I I barely remember what what I used to do.

SPEAKER_00

Even though we created a plan for you?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. I I need to check it.

SPEAKER_00

You threw it in the trash?

SPEAKER_06

No, I need to check that.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_06

Mm-hmm. Okay, so well that was the Rocky plan, right?

SPEAKER_00

Or not Rocky plan. It was a plan based on you.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, okay. Yeah, okay. I I need to check that again.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_06

Um, and um then second day it went better, and then you know, third day I felt like it went even better. So yeah, how did you feel?

SPEAKER_00

Um, well the first day I was going through uh my regular gym routine and it was kind of messy because there were other people who were using like everything that I wanted to use.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I don't like other people.

SPEAKER_00

So uh uh yeah, and the machines were confusing. I wish there were more signs on the machines as to like what they do and what you're supposed to do. Otherwise, I just look at it and be like, I I don't think I need this.

SPEAKER_05

No, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

We need to make another routine that is specific for this gym.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. I first day I had trouble fixing the seat for one of the machines since there was so many people there. I didn't want to seem dumb, so I didn't want to like look too closely, so I'm like, uh, this is okay, I guess. So I just went with what it was set on.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Worked.

SPEAKER_00

Alright.

SPEAKER_06

But yeah, then the second day I I'm like, oh yeah, that's how you do it. And you used a rubber band?

SPEAKER_00

I did. I did the pull-ups with the rubber band.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I learned that at my spinning course during the summer.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

So it was pretty cool.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Yeah, I'm I'm it feels magical. I'm too scared of the rubber band because I don't want it to smack in my face or anywhere else. But maybe I'll do that sometime at some point.

SPEAKER_00

Sure. Okay. I'm sure you will. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Maybe.

Workday Chaos Books Spiders Sun

SPEAKER_00

Let's see. Is there anything else? We worked together today.

SPEAKER_06

We did.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. For the first time in over a year.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, that was cool.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

And I I dropped three books. I dropped one, then I had to pick that up, then another one fell, and I picked that up, then the third one fell. I'm like, what is going on?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It was kind of messy.

SPEAKER_06

And then the boss people were mocking me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

I had a small spider on me today at lunch. I didn't want to say anything because I know the some of the people freak out when there are spiders there.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It's probably best that we didn't. Or you didn't say anything.

SPEAKER_06

No. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I felt like I was gonna get sunburned out there. The sun was on me and it was nice. But then when we went inside, I uh I I could feel that I had been sitting in the sun for a while and my my skin was getting kind of red. It was like, uh I don't think I actually got burned. I think it went away. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

And it felt like a bug crashed into my head today.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Well, I was trying to ask you a question. You were just trying to subtly ignore me.

SPEAKER_06

Well, I felt the bug. Or someone was was throwing food or something at my head. I don't know. That's probable. Something in in the back of my head.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. I feel like people would do that.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

It is Friday.

SPEAKER_06

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

It's it's May.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

It is. Still.

SPEAKER_00

It's May 8th. And uh we watch movies.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, we did.

SPEAKER_00

Would you like to move on?

SPEAKER_06

Let's move on.

Rocky V Review And Franchise Pattern

SPEAKER_00

Okay. So tonight we watched Rocky V and Murder Mystery.

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

So I will start off with Rocky V.

SPEAKER_05

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

This is a movie with Stallone and another guy who he meets and he trains the guy, and then they get in a fight. Uh Rocky is also broke in this movie, so he loses everything and becomes a street fighter.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Also, uh, he abandons his kid again, who really needs his help, but never really gets the help. No. He finds the help from someone else.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And deals with his own problems, which is something that my children cannot do. So yeah, that's this movie. What do you think about it?

SPEAKER_06

I mean, out of the Rocky movies, I'm not the biggest fan of this one. I guess it's okay, but according to Stallone, this is the worst Rocky movie.

SPEAKER_00

Ever.

SPEAKER_06

Ever.

SPEAKER_00

Worst Rocky movie ever.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I can already tell you that there is a pattern with these movies.

SPEAKER_03

Okay? Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_00

So it starts off with half of the last movie. Okay. So you really get to know what happened in the last movie. And then something happens and Rocky gets sad and he says, I'm never boxing ever again.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And then something happens and it triggers him, and then he fights anyway. Yeah. The end. And that's that's my prediction for next movie too. Okay. Okay.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. The thing is, it's supposed to go back to like the basics to like the first two movies before he got rich and everything. So that's why they make him lose all his money and everything. And then we get this bleaker, almost depressed feeling. It's kind of weird because three and four, those are like the most colorful, almost feel positive movies. And those are the ones with the character deaths. So it's kind of weird that those are the ones that feel more positive than the other ones without deaths.

SPEAKER_00

Right. I left out the fact that Stallone's son plays Stallone's son.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

In this movie. So that's kind of cool.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And his wife, Adrian, she only yells in this movie. Yeah. She doesn't have any speaking roles. She is just yelling at everyone.

SPEAKER_06

Yelling roles.

SPEAKER_00

She's not a happy person.

SPEAKER_06

No. She's gone a long way from the first movie.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. She went from not talking at all and being super shy to just yelling at everyone.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. I don't know. Not the best Rocky movie. What did you think?

SPEAKER_00

I didn't mind it. I kinda like the the end fight, but I mean it's different.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. A street fight instead of in a ring.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I like that part.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That's all. Next movie?

Murder Mystery And Clue Vibes

SPEAKER_06

Next movie, Murder Mystery. So this movie stars Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston.

SPEAKER_00

It's a sequel.

SPEAKER_06

Almost. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

With different character names.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, exactly. So in this one, they are going on a honeymoon trip to Europe and then get involved with like a murder plot, right? And they have to solve the murder because they get blamed for it. They're the suspects. It's Adam Sandler, so it's funny too. Funny characters and stuff like that. And he says weird things. And what did you think about this movie?

SPEAKER_00

I thought it was funny. I liked it. I enjoyed it. I haven't seen it before. Okay. So um I thought it was interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Did you figure out the mystery?

SPEAKER_00

At the end, yeah, when they said it.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. When it was revealed.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Then I was like, ah, I know who did it.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Solved it just now.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Ah, that makes sense. Oh, that was wrong? Aha, well that one makes sense too. And yeah, that's that was my thoughts.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Then the movie's over.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Like, solved it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Then next.

SPEAKER_00

What did you think about the movie?

SPEAKER_06

Uh yeah, I I've seen it once before. And I do really enjoy this one. It's it's a fun movie. Um yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, it was like Clue.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, very much.

SPEAKER_00

Which was fun, but Tim Curry was not in this movie.

SPEAKER_06

No. And it's kind of funny that you even asked that question.

SPEAKER_00

Like if Tim Curry was in the movie. Well, that's because the first murder victim, he comes in with his cane and he like hits it on he he loudly hits it on the floor as he walks.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Kind of like Tim Curry did in Rocky Horror.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But um and then and then the movie ended up being quite similar to Clue.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. So it's like a bridge between Rocky Horror and um he wasn't there. No.

SPEAKER_00

He had already had a stroke by the time this movie was filmed.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I'm sure he was considered how cool would that be.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Thinking about it, he would have been like the murder victim, so he wouldn't have had that much of a screen time. But yeah, I don't know how how able he would have been to do the not at the time.

SPEAKER_00

No. No, no. He's had a long road. Anyway. He wasn't in the movie, but it was very similar to Clue. Yeah. With like how the first murder was done. But they were on a boat. Yeah. They weren't in a castle.

SPEAKER_06

No. They didn't stay on the same.

SPEAKER_00

No, they didn't stay on the boat.

SPEAKER_06

So they moved around.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Clue on the move.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I guess so. Anything else?

SPEAKER_06

Uh no. We both liked it.

SPEAKER_00

We did.

SPEAKER_06

Good. So yeah, that's all that matters. Yeah.

Intermission Music Break

SPEAKER_00

Alright. Well, it's about time to take a break.

SPEAKER_06

I guess so.

SPEAKER_00

So let's enjoy some fun intermission music.

SPEAKER_06

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

We'll be right back.

SPEAKER_06

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And we are back.

SPEAKER_05

Yay! Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Here we are. Yep. Part two. Today we are recording number 180. Wow. Which is crazy.

SPEAKER_06

That's that's a lot of episodes.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It's it's feeling like a bit too many. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Maybe. Yeah. Uh I mean, we've been doing this for three and like half years.

SPEAKER_00

Or something.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, something like that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. How do you feel about this? Is it worth going on?

SPEAKER_06

I don't know. I mean, you do most of the work, I have to say though.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. Sometimes you do most of the work.

SPEAKER_06

Hmm.

SPEAKER_00

I feel like we I go on vacations and cruises and stuff while you edit.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, but you do like all the uh fixing and everything.

SPEAKER_00

Hmm. I'm I've been very lazy with the social medium. Okay. I have not been keeping up with it very well. And then sometimes I have to like post a lot of things at once to catch up.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, like three weeks. So yeah, um, I haven't even posted last weeks yet.

SPEAKER_06

No, okay. I uh do you check for uh fan mails and stuff like that?

SPEAKER_00

I do. Actually, I was told that that we got fan mail, but I never received it, but I can read it anyway.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. So you didn't get fan mail, but you can read it?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because there was a complaint that I didn't read the fan mail, but I hadn't even gotten it.

SPEAKER_06

Huh. Did she uh write you what she wrote?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Okay. Of course.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. I Yeah, I assume it's a she.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. I'm not sure. My sist my sister Heather. Oh yeah. She writes regarding Rocky and the exercise program. The Rocky Pro Rocky Exercise Program.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Uh she says, remember, you can't run up the stairs and celebrate unless you're at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Steps in Pennsylvania.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_06

Because we're weren't allowed to run up the stairs uh in Washington, DC. She was very strict about that.

SPEAKER_00

They look kinda scary anyway. Yeah. Why can't you run up the stairs?

SPEAKER_06

Be uh because it's uh not the right place.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Alright. Yeah. No, I guess you're right. And also they look kinda scary to run up.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So if we ever go to Philadelphia, we'll have to do that.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Is the statue real?

SPEAKER_06

I don't know. Need to check.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna Google map this. Okay. And we're gonna find out right now. Philadelphia. That wasn't correct. Uh it was the Museum of Art. I'm guessing it's this way. This one. This way.

SPEAKER_06

This way. Let's go this way. Up the stairs.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, it looks like, but that statue is not Rocky.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_00

I don't even know if it's the right one.

SPEAKER_06

No. I feel like uh the Rocky movies are kind of iconic, so it wouldn't surprise me if there's or if there at least was an an a statue there. I know that somewhere they had a real like uh statue of someone like that, and then they moved it. They kept the statue, but not at the same place. Hmm.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if it was yeah, that's what it looks like, actually. Okay. It's to the side of the steps or something. Okay. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_06

It's gone. It's hiding.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's it's to the right of the steps. Okay. Apparently. Huh. But I don't see Rocky. But apparently he's there somewhere.

SPEAKER_06

Okay. He's hiding.

SPEAKER_00

He is hiding. I don't know. I don't know. But you can only run up those steps, and that's what that's what was that's what we were told.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. And celebrate when you reach the top.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Anyway, what else what were we talking about? It's one in the 180.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And that means it's time for a history lesson.

SPEAKER_06

Yes. That is.

SPEAKER_00

Do you have something prepared?

SPEAKER_06

Uh I yeah. Uh I I do. I do. I do.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_06

So we were talking about um uh like our history that it's so many episodes and everything. But everything started before that, right? Like movie night. Right. And it's like uh five years now.

SPEAKER_00

No, it's not. Yeah, it is. Yeah, it is, sorry.

SPEAKER_06

Five years and like a month.

SPEAKER_00

And a month. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Uh so yeah, I I want to hear the history of movie night.

SPEAKER_00

Alright. I'm not even sure if The Rock is involved in this story because it's a personal story between the two of us. I'm gonna tell you my side of the story. Okay. And if you want to cut in with your side, yeah, then you're free to do so.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Because I I I do also I'm a part of this.

SPEAKER_00

You are. Yeah. And you have a side of the story, but all I know is my side.

SPEAKER_06

I have the wrong side of the story.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Well, we'll we'll see how much you remember.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_06

So uh one question.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, you're already we haven't even started, but okay, go ahead.

SPEAKER_06

No, you said uh we'll see how much I remember. Did we drink?

SPEAKER_00

Uh, we didn't drink.

SPEAKER_06

No, because I didn't drink at all.

SPEAKER_00

No, you didn't.

SPEAKER_06

No. Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's all. It's it's more blaming the lack of memory than uh any alcohol being involved. But no, I don't believe that alcohol was involved at all whatsoever.

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, we'll we'll see how much of this I'm making up and which is what is real.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So, all right, so five years ago, apparently, end a month or so. Yeah or something.

SPEAKER_06

At an hour or so.

SPEAKER_00

And two hours ago, uh we worked together at a warehouse uh with books. And I remember that. You remember that part? Okay, because it was a long time we worked together there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And we sat together at lunch and uh we talked a lot, yeah, I think.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Or at least minimal, enough for you to catch my attention.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't know that much about you. Oh, but I wanted to because you seemed interesting for some reason. Yeah. I don't I don't get it now, uh, but at the moment I was interested in you as a person. So I came to learn that you really liked movies. I was like, I often uh have to tell people that I. Have not seen the movie that they've talked they're talking about. I haven't seen a lot of the classics and I just never really had time for that kind of thing.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. No.

SPEAKER_00

Because I have kids. Right? So I just never I never did. But you have, and you like that kind of thing. And I was thinking I should catch up on the movie world.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Especially since I mean, I don't know at the time if I was really looking into working in film again. But it's been an interest at least. Yeah. The majority of my adult life. Uh so I stalked you on Facebook and I found you. And uh well, kind of because you didn't have a profile picture.

SPEAKER_05

No.

SPEAKER_00

So I had to like kind of guess and find you there. And so I I started talking to you there on Messenger. And we had a really slow relationship at the beginning. Yeah. I feel like because it took a long time for me to just get your number to text you. Oh yeah. We only wrote on Messenger.

SPEAKER_06

Oh my god. But I mean that's the thing with most of the people at work. I I'm just texting them on Messenger for Right.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Uh which ended up being a problem at one point. Yeah. But that's a different story.

SPEAKER_06

That's a different story.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway.

SPEAKER_06

Comment if you want to hear that story.

SPEAKER_00

That's gonna have to be another episode in which I have to uh spill all of my shame and disgust with myself.

SPEAKER_06

That's emotional.

SPEAKER_00

It's an emotional story. Okay, anyway.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So we were talking a messenger, and I subtly, because I'm very subtle, I brought up we should have a movie night. You're like, yeah, sure.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, no, no, I asked you what your favorite movie was, and you said Terminator, Terminator 2. And I said, I haven't seen that one, but I would like to. And but I haven't seen the first one either. So we should have a movie night and watch both of them. You were like, Yeah, sure. And so it felt like one of those things like, yeah, we're totally gonna do that, but then we just like don't.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You know? Like uh modern adults do nowadays. Yeah. Like, yeah, we totally should hang out.

SPEAKER_06

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

And then it never happens.

SPEAKER_06

I I I've done that to other people. Like, yeah, sure, let's do that.

SPEAKER_00

How often do you say, Yeah, we definitely should do that? And but like in the back of your head, be like, I really don't want to do that.

SPEAKER_06

I would never put it like that. I would never say definitely do that. Because that means like I'm in I'm very interested in. I would be like, Yeah, maybe. That that uh that's more my speed. Yeah. It's like I I don't want to say no, right? But I uh I don't want to say that I'm excited about it either.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but the thing is is that when you say yeah, maybe, it always comes off as a definite no. So you just like drop the whole thing.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, yeah. Well, that's probably what I That's the underlying message.

SPEAKER_00

Um I feel like sometimes I say, Yeah, we definitely should do that, and then like in my mind, I'm like, mmm, I'm not gonna go out of my way to make this happen.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, no. I mean, other people at work uh asked me to do stuff with them, and I'm like, no, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, yeah. Well how about a straight up no?

SPEAKER_06

No, well, I say, yeah, maybe that's that's a no.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Maybe is it the people we usually hang out with or like all the other people who are like, we want to be your bestie too? Uh is everyone jealous of me?

SPEAKER_06

No, no, no, no, the not the people we hang out with. No, it's uh a person he he doesn't work there anymore. But you remember a tall guy? He's like, we should go bowling sometimes. Totally, and I'm like, Yeah, maybe so many times. And he's and then like uh waiting.

SPEAKER_00

You're like, I hate bowling.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, a few months uh he's like, We never went bowling, we should do that, and I'm like, Yeah, maybe.

SPEAKER_00

Why do you want to go bowling with me? Yeah, why bowling specifically?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

It's expensive going bowling, you know?

SPEAKER_06

Luckily, it's not there anymore, is it?

SPEAKER_00

Ugh, it's weird. We should go bowling.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, we we have done that.

SPEAKER_00

We have. Was it once or twice?

SPEAKER_06

I don't know. At least once. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Children.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Apparently, Sick Child wants to go bowling again. Yeah, we'll see. Yeah, maybe. Which was the response I gave him. Yeah, maybe. Yeah. Totally. I'll look into it. I pulled up the booking site and then I closed it down again. Yeah. And that's as far as I got with that.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so sidetrack. A little sidetracked. Let's see. So we brought up I brought up, I'm very pushy. I'm a I'm a planner. If I want to do something, I go for it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I brought up the fact that we should have a movie night. And that's as far as it got for like a week or so.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. And then Did I say, yeah, maybe?

SPEAKER_00

I think so. Yeah, maybe. So after the week or so of silence, it was just silence. He like stopped talking to me in real life and everything. Well, we gotta think this is uh 2021. So COVID is just kinda starting to calm down a bit, right? Um, I mean, it's still there, but it's it's calming down. And Sick Child was very, very young.

SPEAKER_06

And uh he couldn't even speak yet.

SPEAKER_00

No, he couldn't.

SPEAKER_06

And I was still his own way.

SPEAKER_00

Right. You could talk to him.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, you guys spoke to me.

SPEAKER_00

You guys had conversations even. No one understood what you guys were saying. No, but you had conversations and he was still nursing. So I was like a little self-conscious. Um, we weren't that close.

SPEAKER_06

No. Well, we didn't have conversation the first time.

SPEAKER_00

No, he oh my god, he just stared at you. He was like, What is that that you brought into my home? He just stared at you for the longest time.

SPEAKER_06

I did I I don't think he even blinked.

SPEAKER_00

No, he was just so confused.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What is that? Um, so yeah, we're not even there yet.

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_00

Because we're still in conversation mode here. Um, so the week or so went by, and uh, I think I brought it up again that, hey, bruh, you said we were gonna watch movies, and we haven't yet. And so I asked for a date. Not like a date, not no, we're not going out on a date. No. I was asking for a date and time.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

When are we doing this? And so we had a date, a a day. Yeah. Uh a time. A time. And um, yeah, it was marked in the calendar. But that date came around and you were sick.

SPEAKER_03

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

And so we had to wait a while.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

And then we tried again. We came up with another date and time in the calendar.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

Scheduling Drama And The Terminator Double

SPEAKER_00

And it finally happened, I think. Yeah. Yeah. And we watched Terminator one and two.

SPEAKER_05

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

And then we decided, well, that was fun.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Let's do this every other week.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because for some reason I was thinking, oh well, next week I'm gonna have the kids. But this is on Friday, and the kids have always been at their dads on Fridays. So I don't know what that was all about.

SPEAKER_05

No.

SPEAKER_00

So we we watched movies every other week. And then we watched like Rambo and and all the James Bond movies.

SPEAKER_06

The thing is, I I looked at the dates on the on our list. Okay. Uh, and uh it says that uh the first time was like uh uh April 9th.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_06

And the second time was uh in May. So I think that there was like a a month gap between the first and second one.

SPEAKER_00

Or maybe that's when you got sick, or maybe you got sick twice.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because there was a period when you were like getting really sick out of nowhere when you'd never been sick before.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Never in your life had you been sick until it was time to hang out with me, and then oh no, I'm sick.

SPEAKER_06

I also remember that sick child sick child made me sick.

SPEAKER_00

Every time.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Every single time. He was sick, and then you would get sick. Yes. You weren't used to sick child germs.

SPEAKER_06

No, so I maybe I was like never going back there again. Yeah. And then like a month later you you made me.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Yes.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. So do you Do I what? No, uh uh maybe you wanna talk about the first one. What?

SPEAKER_00

The first what?

SPEAKER_06

The first uh movie night.

SPEAKER_00

What about it?

SPEAKER_06

I don't know, history lesson?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well I I don't I I know I believe we got snacks, right? And I don't know what we had for snacks.

SPEAKER_06

No. Did we start with chips like the first because that was like uh um I think so. Yeah. I mean that was the standard back then.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Oh yeah, we both got a bag of chips.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah, I th we had like three bags of chips. One for me, one for you, and one for uh your life partner.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_06

Because he he also watched Weirdos like every time back then.

SPEAKER_00

He did.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna read our conversation.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

March 3rd, 2021. Oh. 1905. The year 1905.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I asked you, what's your favorite movie? You said, that's tough to answer, but Terminator 2 is one of my favorites. And then I said, then I have to watch the first one. Blah blah blah. Netflix.

SPEAKER_06

And it wasn't on Netflix.

SPEAKER_00

It was not on Netflix.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_00

Neither of them were on Netflix.

SPEAKER_06

No, because I remember I brought my Blu-ray and uh DVD. And the DVD didn't even have the English subtitles.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah. And then we got in a fight, I guess. We did. We were you were trying to agree to disagree, and I wanted to disagree to agree.

SPEAKER_06

About what?

SPEAKER_00

Some kind of hashtag.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so anyway, you're mean to me, so that's what happened.

SPEAKER_05

Sounds legit.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Uh so it took us a while to actually talk about movie night from there.

SPEAKER_06

Because I was mean.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, here we go. This is March 10th. I say, uh oh, I asked if you you'd seen a certain movie. You said, yeah, many years ago. And you have to refresh your memory about that one. And then I said, we need a movie night.

SPEAKER_05

What was the movie?

SPEAKER_00

Uh O Brother.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And then you said yes. And I said, then I can finally watch Transformers. I had forgotten the title, but I meant Terminator. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

And now I look- Did I correct you?

SPEAKER_00

No, I corrected myself.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, okay, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Oh no, hold on. I lost it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I mean, sure, there are robots in both Terminator and Transformers, but not really the same. They both start with T. Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so we um we uh derailed from Terminator for a while there. And then again, I ask March 19th. So it's gone almost ten days later.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

When is movie night? And you said, I don't know, I'd rather watch movies with my grandma. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Blah blah blah. We tried to uh book a day, um a day off, actually. Oh it was Long Fena.

SPEAKER_06

Oh yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_00

We tried to uh book, and then you got sick and you had to get tested for COVID.

SPEAKER_05

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I'm guessing we did not watch movies that night that we planned. And then there was Easter candy, and I saved some for you in a cup.

SPEAKER_06

Classic.

SPEAKER_00

And then you got the results, uh, abstembar.

SPEAKER_06

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Not not determinable, I guess, if that's a word. Um so that was confusing.

SPEAKER_06

They didn't know. Like, I don't know. Maybe it is and maybe not. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Then I got a doctor time for my hands.

SPEAKER_06

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

My hands were broken.

SPEAKER_06

Oh yeah, I remember.

SPEAKER_00

Let's see.

SPEAKER_06

We talk a lot.

SPEAKER_00

We do talk a lot, but remember those times? Remember the times when we talked a lot? We don't talk that much anymore.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_00

Uh and then I had surgery. Uh. But the first day was in April, right?

SPEAKER_06

April 9th.

SPEAKER_00

April 9th. So, okay.

SPEAKER_06

That's according to the list at least.

SPEAKER_00

April 9th. I don't know if that was a good Friday or not, but we did watch movies on April 9th. And you didn't have COVID, and you could go back to work, and then I welcomed you over for movie night.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And then I gave you your cup of candy.

SPEAKER_06

So that's how you lured me here or yeah, I guess so.

SPEAKER_00

With candy.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You got candy, and I'm assuming we got chips, but I don't really remember. We didn't I don't think we really talked about the snacks.

SPEAKER_06

No, it wasn't.

SPEAKER_00

And we didn't even have energy drinks.

SPEAKER_06

No, that was before energy drinks were invented.

SPEAKER_00

And we were not I don't think that's true.

SPEAKER_06

No, maybe not.

SPEAKER_00

And we were not recording podcast episodes either.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_00

That came later.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah. I don't know about the gap. I'm assuming that you got sick again.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, maybe.

SPEAKER_00

And that's my side of it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if you have a side. Uh if you were thinking she's a creep and I don't want to watch movies with this weird random person from work.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I uh well, um like after the first I'm like, I'm never uh coming here again.

SPEAKER_00

And then Is that what you were thinking? Like, I don't want to do this ever again.

SPEAKER_06

At least not for a month.

SPEAKER_00

Give it a month, see how I feel about it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. No, uh I had a good time, it was fun.

SPEAKER_00

It was a little awkward that first time though, because we had never hung out outside of work.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_00

And you definitely had never been over to my place. No.

SPEAKER_06

So and never met your son who stared me down.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And then yeah, the whole like awkwardness of still nursing him and everything. Yeah. So I like left the room for a while to do that. And yeah, it was just really awkward. And I was so self-conscious at the time too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because I I have a hard time losing weight after having babies.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. What? And I remembered that you covered your couch with blankets.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. We had a white couch. So all there were blankets over the entire couch because we had sick child.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. And you uh it felt uh you didn't wanna you you kind of felt self-conscious about the couch too, or Probably. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. Yeah, because it was a bit stained.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because of children.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. But I br I remember that, you know, that just disappeared. The it's like, uh now Matias is a common thing over here, so we can show her.

SPEAKER_00

Just get rid of the couch. Just get rid of the couch. We'll sit on the floor.

SPEAKER_06

Stop him from coming here is get rid of the couch.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And like the whole process of convincing my life partner to just allow you to come over.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like, hey, I have this friend. Uh we're gonna we're gonna watch movies. Yeah. He's like, mm, okay.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You only have weird friends though. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Well, I'm not that weird.

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_06

Shut up.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

Building Movie Themes For Years

SPEAKER_06

No. Uh do you remember when we were talking about the second um movie night? Because I I remember why uh we chose one movie for the second, at least one movie. And that was because we were talking about other Schwarzenegger movies.

SPEAKER_05

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_06

And then we were talking about uh The Last Action Hero, which was from uh 1993.

SPEAKER_00

That was on my birthday.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, and then we checked the mm premiere.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

And it was on your birthday.

SPEAKER_00

So we had to watch it on my birthday.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah, you you were like, we need to watch that.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_06

But I don't think it was on your birthday, but it was before your birthday, I think.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, probably.

SPEAKER_06

In May. But uh but that was like the reason why we had the second one.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, for the movie that was on my birthday. For my birthday. Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_06

So yeah. And then we just continued and Yeah, then we just continued with all Schwarzenegger movies.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

So that was like the first uh theme.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. We watched all the Schwarzenegger movies and then we watched a bunch of Stallone movies.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like uh Rambo and such.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. That's what happened.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I don't know how funny of a story it is, but that's just kind of what happened. It was a slow process and life kind of got in the way at times, and but eventually we got around to it and here we are.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. I mean, this time we it wasn't a silly history lesson. No. It was an actual history lesson.

SPEAKER_00

It was a real life history lesson. Yeah. Or as accurate as I possibly can make it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. It didn't feature The Rock. Uh we haven't seen have we seen any of the movies with The Rock.

SPEAKER_00

Um, if we have, it's only been a couple.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think I don't think so. No. Which is disappointing.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, but in the future it's gonna happen.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah, no, I can't I can't think of anything.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_00

What is he even in? Other than like The Mummy, right?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And the the Ryan Reynolds movie.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, we haven't seen that. We're gonna watch Ryan Reynolds next year. So is we're gonna watch The Rock. Oh, maybe that's well, it it's not a big secret. I don't know how big of a secret that is, but The Rock? No, that uh we're gonna watch Ryan Reynolds Ryan Reynolds movies next year.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, I I think it's okay to say.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And yeah. He was in the remake of Amityville Horror Ryan Reynolds, right? And there was a house that just went up for sale. And it partially looks like it it kinda gives me that house feeling.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Or at least the outside. The inside look pretty nice.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

But I was like, I want that one just because it reminds me of that movie.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, uh, that's all.

SPEAKER_06

Wouldn't that feel kinda scary though, to live there?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. I think it would just be a fun fact of my life. Like I live in a house that looks like the Yamityville house.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Oh well. Well, you want all of the houses. I do.

SPEAKER_00

Every time I see a house, I'm like, I can move in there. Yeah. No problem.

SPEAKER_06

You want the drum cooking house too.

SPEAKER_00

Yes. That one.

SPEAKER_06

That one is really cool though. I I like that one too. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I just want a house in general. Yeah. I really don't care.

SPEAKER_06

No. You can always dream.

SPEAKER_00

I'm a dreamer. And it's it's ruining my life. I have to get to this part so I can talk about what's ruining my life.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, okay. So we're we need to wrap this up. Okay, you wanna do that one.

SPEAKER_00

I do. Because I'm I'm done with the story. I have nothing else to say. No. Unless you have other things.

SPEAKER_06

Uh no, I don't think so. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Then as we reach the end of this episode, you can start with what is ruining your life.

Dream Crushers And Closing Thanks

SPEAKER_06

Okay. What's ruining my life? I mean the it's uh the I'm so tired. I'm uh I'm all mushy in the head now.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know mushy head.

SPEAKER_06

I don't know if that's a word, but I'm sticking with it.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_06

Yep. So what's ruining your life?

SPEAKER_00

I'm a dreamer.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

And that's what's ruining my life.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I'm a dreamer, and people have this fun hobby of crushing my dreams.

SPEAKER_06

Dream crushers.

SPEAKER_00

Dream crushers are ruining my life. Let me dream, let me work for the things that I want, and stop telling me it's not gonna work out.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, not cool.

SPEAKER_00

Not cool. So if I fe if I seem a little down lately, it's because dream crushers are ruining my life.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

But am I giving give up?

SPEAKER_06

Never. Yeah, maybe.

SPEAKER_00

Maybe on the outside. But I'm still crawling around on the inside.

SPEAKER_06

Never on the inside.

SPEAKER_00

Never on the inside. No. And it's probably gonna get me in trouble. But hey, hey, whatever. Let it let it happen. Yeah. I'm gonna be down for a little bit, and then when things start turning in my favor, then be like, I told you so. Anyway. I told you. Are you all out of sips?

SPEAKER_06

Almost.

unknown

Why?

SPEAKER_06

I'm all out of sips, and that means we're all out of episode.

SPEAKER_00

So as we read we are as we let's wrap this up. Cool. That's a question.

SPEAKER_06

That was the best sentence I ever heard. It was very well thought out.

SPEAKER_00

Thank you. I definitely thought of what I was gonna say before I said it. That was scripted, actually.

SPEAKER_06

Okay, yeah. Was it uh AI?

SPEAKER_00

Maybe. Okay. Don't judge me.

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_00

Let's wrap this up.

SPEAKER_06
