Roasty Toasty Ghosty
Roasty Toasty Ghosty — The comedy class no one asked for, and everyone needs.
Each week, Lauren and Mattias “teach” you something completely useless — from fake history lessons and chaotic crash courses to games, quizzes, and whatever else their sleep-deprived brains come up with. Think educational chaos… but make it funny.

We record a quick video call catch-up after a hot, sleepless night and compare two very different “siblings” movies. We review Stallone’s Paradise Alley and Adam Sandler’s Jack and Jill, then argue about what makes a character funny versus just plain annoying.
• video call recording and a quick apology for the sound
• what we watched and the mismatched viewing order
• Paradise Alley set in the 1940s and the brothers’ money scheme
• the youngest brother pushed into wrestling and taken advantage of
• discomfort with the monkey scenes and why it lingers
• Stallone’s first directed movie and a Rocky connection
• Jack and Jill’s twin premise and why Jill grates on purpose
• Al Pacino falling for Jill and the Dunkin’ Donuts commercial
• cameos and side jokes that still make us laugh
• the shared bridge between the movies as “annoying siblings”

Cold Open And Going Solo
SPEAKER_01Here's the fun intro, crack it ten year. Here we go. No one knows what we'll even know. Starting with the movie but now it's time where we are not bad ideas and let's take it at the time that we're Mr. X.
SPEAKER_04Oh, maybe we should open this up. Or okay, I'm doing the editing all by myself and I'm gonna open this up. I bought a monster just for that. Not because I like it or anything. No, it's just so we can open this
Why The Audio Sounds Rough
SPEAKER_04up. Hello and welcome to Roasty Toasty Ghosty. My name is Matthias, and yeah, I'm all by myself. So Lauren comes later. Okay, so today's episode is gonna be a bit weird. It's gonna be um video call and we have to apologize or I have to apologize for the poor sound. So yeah, you have to bear with us and uh hope we can make it better next week. But here comes the call
Sleep Deprivation And Movie Prep
SPEAKER_04now.
SPEAKER_03Uh I I did watch the movies.
SPEAKER_04Oh, you did? Good.
SPEAKER_03I did.
SPEAKER_04I also did, and then I fell asleep and didn't want to talk to you.
SPEAKER_03You just did not want to talk to me.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Uh mean yeah, I mean uh I the night before I really did not sleep well. I maybe got three hours or so.
SPEAKER_00Why yeah?
SPEAKER_04I don't know. It was warm.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But it's been really warm.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so I had so much trouble falling asleep. It was a little bit chillier uh on Friday, so that's why I could sleep and I fell asleep maybe. Yeah. I think I fell asleep at like after nine or something.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. But I I did stay I did stay awake for the movies at least.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Well, I kind of fell asleep through the second movie.
SPEAKER_04Which one did you start with and which one I started with uh uh twins, the twins one. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and then I watched uh Stallone after that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Is is that the order that you watched too?
SPEAKER_04No. I watched the other movie. Yeah, but we we watched the same movies at least, so we did. Well, yeah, we we didn't really plan this too well,
What We Watched And In What Order
SPEAKER_04but uh you know, it's something but I did watch the movies, yeah. So do you wanna movie on?
SPEAKER_03Oh, we can do that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Wait a minute, robot voice.
SPEAKER_03I'm not a robot. But you got calling me a robot, you're a robot.
SPEAKER_04That's how much you miss me. That you're starting to develop a robot voice.
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_04No, okay.
SPEAKER_03I don't know if it's that bad.
SPEAKER_04Okay, okay. So let's move on.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Let's see. We watched the two movies. Yeah. Right. I remember Stallone's movie was Paradise Alley.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And then there's the twins movie.
SPEAKER_04Jack and Jill.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Jack and Jill.
SPEAKER_04Mm-hmm. That's true.
SPEAKER_03That yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That much is true.
SPEAKER_04Okay, so who's gonna start?
SPEAKER_03I I I can tell you kind of about Paradise Alley.
SPEAKER_04Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I can try to remember
Paradise Alley Review And Standout Moments
SPEAKER_03what happened.
SPEAKER_04And I can even fill in if I fell asleep. Yeah. I can help you. It's okay.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Okay. So Stallone? Oh, it's it's the the forties. It w it took place in the forties.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And it's kind of sad, I think.
SPEAKER_04The movie?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Stallone has two brothers.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03One is like very serious and the other one is large and kind of dumb. But he's learning.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03He was kind of cute though. Yeah. I mean, come on. And Stallone is the brother that just wants to make money. The greedy one. But the the serious brother ends up being the manager for the the bigger he's the youngest, but he's a big guy.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And they put him into uh wrestling or something. They take advantage of him. And uh yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's that's what I got.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I mean that. It's uh good summary.
SPEAKER_03I don't know really how it ended, but I know that that was basically what was going on.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But I liked what I saw.
SPEAKER_04Okay, good.
SPEAKER_03The the parts that I did see, I I enjoyed them. What did you think about the movie? I mean what did I miss?
SPEAKER_04I I think uh it's a pretty uh it's a good movie. I mean, it's not a favorite, but still uh I don't hate it.
SPEAKER_03Have you seen it before?
SPEAKER_04I have. Okay. Um there are parts like I I'm I'm not uh that comf comfortable with uh uh the monkey parts of the movie. I I didn't didn't really like those parts where where they got the monkey and then like it kind of seems like the monkey. Yeah. That's so cruel. It feels I didn't like that either. No, that's like the thing that's in my head every time I see this movie, it's like oh, yeah. But uh other than that, I think it's it's it's a uh it's a pr uh it's an okay movie at least.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And uh it's Stallone's first directed movie, like his Okay. Yeah?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So that's pretty cool. What else? In some ways I it kinda reminds me of uh Battle Creek Brawl. I don't know why. I think I think it's uh like the music, I mean it's both both are like set at uh basically the same time. And uh I feel like they could be like a connected universe if if you just wanted to.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And uh yeah, so i it would be kind of fun to think it about it like that. But that's just my head. Uh uh so what did you think about this movie?
SPEAKER_03I did like it. Um, but I I noticed that there was a connection to Rocky as well.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03In which uh his brother is the singer.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03In this one too.
SPEAKER_04But he uh Stallone also Stallone also uh sang the theme song.
SPEAKER_03I thought that was him.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I wasn't sure. No. But it sounded like him. But it could have also been his brother.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, true.
SPEAKER_03I guess it was him.
SPEAKER_04It was uh Sylvester, I think.
SPEAKER_03That's cool.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So yeah.
SPEAKER_03That's it.
SPEAKER_04Uh yeah, probably.
SPEAKER_03No more.
SPEAKER_04No more
Jack And Jill Review From Annoying To Funny
SPEAKER_04Paradise Alley.
SPEAKER_03Tell me about Jack and Jill.
SPEAKER_04Okay. This movie uh stars Adam Sandler and Adam Sandler.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_04As Jack and Jill. So they are twins. Jack is not thrilled about his sister Jill, because she can be seen as pretty annoying.
SPEAKER_03She is really annoying.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, she is.
SPEAKER_03Really annoying. I mean, if you put her in anger management, then then he would have a good reason to require anger management.
SPEAKER_04I feel like she and Jack Nicholson would go so well together. Yeah. But in this movie, it's Al Pacino instead. Al Pacino falls in love with uh Jill, and uh Jack needs that to happen because he needs uh Al Pacino to do a commercial for them.
SPEAKER_03Dunkin' Donuts.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Dunpuccino.
SPEAKER_03Which I I was just there before you called me.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_03Before I called you, actually.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. And the the commercial that they showed at the end, yeah, I thought it was kind of fun.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I liked it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Like, no, get rid of it. No one can burn it. Burn it. It was funny. It was. Yeah, so what did you think about this movie?
SPEAKER_03I I liked the movie. I thought it was funny, but she was really, really, really annoying. Yeah. I didn't like her.
SPEAKER_04No. Yeah, I mean, in a way, I kind of found uh Stallone's character in the uh in Paradise Alley kind of annoying too, because he he was so into like uh making money and like doing all the schemes and yeah, everything. And so I kind of feel like that's the bridge between these two movies. Annoying siblings.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so it's uh siblings movies we watched this time. Yeah, but yeah, I kind of like uh uh Jack and Joe. I think it's like one of the Adam Sanders most hated movies. Probably yeah. But it's uh it has fun cameos and Johnny Depp was there.
SPEAKER_03Oh, he was that was so random.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and uh I I like uh David Spade, his cat who got her butt-kicked by Jill. Yeah, and the and also really funny. Yeah, and they also made fun of Rob Schneider.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. It was a really funny movie. I laughed many times.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I didn't count how many times, but it was a lot.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, good. That's what the movie was intended for, I think.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So I didn't because I did that.
SPEAKER_04Good.
SPEAKER_03If I wasn't supposed to laugh, then that's too bad.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, then you failed. Because I did. But but you didn't fail since I didn't. No.
SPEAKER_00I did laugh.
