Cold Open And 1995 Movie Spiral
SPEAKER_06Here is the fun and scroll cracking. And here we go, no one knows what we leave the nose.
SPEAKER_08Are you leaving now?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Okay. We'll finish this up later.
SPEAKER_02No, you do that. You finish it now. I'm going.
SPEAKER_08Oh, okay. Alright. Well, that's that's an option, I guess. It's gonna be really short. Because if you leave this room, I'm gonna end it and then I'll edit the whole thing and put it up, and it'll be like three minutes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And then That's including the intro and the outro, which is about three minutes combined.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So then we're gonna have to uh find uh a title from those seconds that Yeah, which will be the only line you don't have much to pick from.
SPEAKER_03No, that's true.
SPEAKER_08So the only line that I managed to get recorded and into the episode, that's gonna be the title. If that's what you want, then you're free to go.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Do you have an idea at all?
SPEAKER_08No. Any idea? I've never done that.
SPEAKER_02No, okay.
SPEAKER_01Sure you haven't.
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_08I don't think I have.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_08I feel like I would remember. But I haven't. Okay. So no.
SPEAKER_02No. You want to talk about it on the podcast?
SPEAKER_08My lack of experience.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, with that.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Yeah. Um, I I never did that.
SPEAKER_02Okay, okay. Cool. Cool story.
SPEAKER_08Thank you. 95.
SPEAKER_0295.
SPEAKER_08195.
SPEAKER_02195.
SPEAKER_081995.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Best movie.
SPEAKER_08I was alive.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. Me too.
SPEAKER_08The best movie was that one that I like. That's it. I'm sticking with that one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Which one is that?
SPEAKER_02You don't like Toy Story, or do you?
SPEAKER_08I like the first two, but when the third one came out, it got too much. Okay. I was pregnant as well at the time. And I I feel like I've cried every time. It's not that I don't like the franchise.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_08I like the movies.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08But I just kind of stopped there because I was afraid I was afraid of the next ones.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay. Well, I must say that the third one is probably the most emotional one.
SPEAKER_08So Yeah, I don't trust anything else after that.
SPEAKER_02No. But I have to say I I'm a little disappointed by the last two.
SPEAKER_08And uh because you saw the fifth one.
SPEAKER_02I did this week.
SPEAKER_08Yesterday.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, maybe it was yesterday.
SPEAKER_08Maybe it was the day before.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think it was the day before because I was talking to my niece yesterday.
SPEAKER_08That's interesting thing to do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08How often do you talk to your niece?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean uh You're a lonely guy. I am. And knee number one and knee number two.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, the lefty and righty.
SPEAKER_02The interesting thing is that my niece left me before I went to the movies.
SPEAKER_08That is unfortunate. They were too tired. My knees are too tired. I'm gonna leave them on the bus. And I'm just gonna roll to the next one. Okay. That's an unfortunate situation.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08But the first Toy Story came out in 95.
SPEAKER_02Yes. And I also like uh Rumble in the Bronx.
SPEAKER_08That is a movie.
SPEAKER_02Very cool.
SPEAKER_08We saw it.
SPEAKER_02The first Jack Chan movie I ever saw.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Not me.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_08I saw another one.
SPEAKER_02Rush Hour.
SPEAKER_08I saw Rush Hour, which did not come out in 95.
SPEAKER_02No, 98. 98.
SPEAKER_0898. I was thinking 97. But 98 was probably my second choice. Yeah. And then I would have given up.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08If I was wrong.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_0897. Okay. We'll get there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, 98 was uh rush hour.
SPEAKER_08We'll get there. It was one of the two. Okay. I can't exactly tell you which one it was. No. I'm not gonna sit here and argue with you over which year we think it could be.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_08That's a matter of opinion. Yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_08Is it uh I don't think it's a fact.
SPEAKER_02No, no.
SPEAKER_08You th you would think. You think it came out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah, I'm not completely sure because I wasn't I was there, but I I didn't see it at the theaters.
SPEAKER_08No, I didn't either.
SPEAKER_02So I don't know.
SPEAKER_08I didn't even find it while I was going through my mom's movies.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_08Last time I was there. Because I was thinking if I find it, I'm gonna keep it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08But that didn't happen.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So you didn't have it?
SPEAKER_08I did.
SPEAKER_02You did.
SPEAKER_08I watched it on repeat.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08It just wasn't there. It's somewhere else.
SPEAKER_02Someone stole it.
SPEAKER_08Maybe.
SPEAKER_02Maybe it was me and you don't know about it.
SPEAKER_08You were there earlier.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Later last year.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_08Earlier than today. Yeah. But later last year. You could have stolen it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But I didn't.
SPEAKER_08I feel like maybe you'd tell me.
SPEAKER_02I think so too. I would probably have shown you.
SPEAKER_08Look what I found.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm keeping it.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Well, can I also keep it? Can we keep it in here and then just say that we share custody of this movie?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. That's what I was afraid you would say. So that's what it never told me.
SPEAKER_08You have your own copy.
SPEAKER_02I yeah.
SPEAKER_08And so do I. But it's originally mine. Anyway. Anyway. 95.
SPEAKER_02Yes. 95. No, I'm I'm thinking movies like uh Braveheart.
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02No one really cares.
SPEAKER_08Nobody likes that movie. I don't like that movie.
SPEAKER_02It's very long.
SPEAKER_08I hate the part when the girl gets licked on the face.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_08I can't stand it.
SPEAKER_02But you're you're okay with the beheading and no. No, okay.
SPEAKER_08I don't know. I mean, no.
SPEAKER_02You don't really see it though.
SPEAKER_08No, so it's okay. It's fine.
SPEAKER_02It's more implied.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. I don't like a lot of things. I don't like torture.
SPEAKER_02No. And yeah, it's a very long movie.
SPEAKER_08Who wants to watch a long movie?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I movies are too long. One one and a half. That's good.
SPEAKER_08One and a half.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Hours. One and a half hour.
SPEAKER_08Hours the.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Ooh. Ooh. Sorry.
SPEAKER_02You don't have to punch me.
SPEAKER_08I think you're wrong.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_08I think you're wrong. Yeah, that's a good reason, actually. I knew you'd understand.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08No one has even opened up the episode.
SPEAKER_02No, that's true.
SPEAKER_08But I'm starving.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Whatever.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08What?
SPEAKER_02Do that then.
SPEAKER_08I will. I'm gonna sit here and starve.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_08For the next hour or so. That's my choice.
SPEAKER_02That sound sounds like a good line.
SPEAKER_08A good lie.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, a good lie.
SPEAKER_08You're not that hungry. No. I don't believe you.
SPEAKER_01You look full to me.
SPEAKER_08Oh wow. Wow. Okay. Sure. I see. You look like you've been full for a month. Maybe. Maybe I have been. Yeah. I haven't really stopped eating.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_0895.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_08What movies came out? Go through your list of people.
SPEAKER_02List of people. Stallone.
SPEAKER_08Wasn't alive yet.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it was.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02And he did Assassins and Judge Red.
SPEAKER_08Oh, that one's okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I think. We watched it.
SPEAKER_02We watched it. Who else?
SPEAKER_08Bruce Willis.
SPEAKER_02Bruce Willis did.
SPEAKER_08Wasn't alive yet.
SPEAKER_02Yes, he was. He was. Okay. And he made uh twelve twelve monkeys. Twelve movies. Twelve monkeys.
SPEAKER_08That one was kind of boring.
SPEAKER_02Weird. Okay, boring. Weird and boring. Okay, sure.
SPEAKER_08I'll go with that. I'm okay with that response.
SPEAKER_02I didn't really like it that much.
SPEAKER_08No. Okay. No, I didn't either. No. Sure.
SPEAKER_02I'm just gonna agree with you. Yeah. Yeah, no, you're right. You want my opinion first.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh Adam Sandler made Water Boy. Billy Madison. And that's uh the that's the movie where he goes to school.
SPEAKER_08That's a good movie.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's not his best, but no, no, no.
SPEAKER_08Probably not. He might have had better movies.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like the next year he made Happy Gilmore. That's a better movie.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it is.
SPEAKER_02You don't remember that either.
SPEAKER_08I do! No, I remember the movies. Yeah, okay. Okay, and Charlie Sheen was also there. He made velocity rappers. Raptors.
SPEAKER_01Velocity. Velocity raptors.
SPEAKER_08Falling raptors. Rappers. Rappers. Velocity rappers.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So they fall from the sky?
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay. Rappers. That was uh 94 though, so I was close.
SPEAKER_08Why didn't you even mention that?
SPEAKER_02I didn't. Last year.
SPEAKER_08Why didn't you talk about this last year?
SPEAKER_01I should have. Yeah, you should have. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Well, that was a fun moment talking about movies.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Would you like to wrap this up? Wait, no, open this up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, open this up.
SPEAKER_08Alright, let's open this up.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
Welcome And Hunger Hippos Energy
SPEAKER_08Hello and welcome to Roasty Toasty Ghosty. My name is Lauren.
SPEAKER_02And I'm Matias.
SPEAKER_08And uh this is the podcast in which I am going to be starving for the next hour or so.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, me too.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, cool. That's what we're gonna do. This is the starving podcast.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08In which we just sit here and complain about how hungry we are.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Why are we so hungry?
SPEAKER_02Because we're hippos.
SPEAKER_08We are definitely hippos.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, hunger, hunger hippos.
SPEAKER_08How are you doing, Matias?
SPEAKER_02I'm good. How are you?
SPEAKER_08I'm great.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08I'm fine.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Stop pushing me.
SPEAKER_02Okay, okay, I I'm back off.
SPEAKER_08Thank you.
Jackie Chan Movie And City Misadventure
SPEAKER_08Let me tell you what I've been up to for the past week.
SPEAKER_02Okay, again.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Well, last Saturday we we recorded uh on Thursday.
SPEAKER_08Um Friday. We watched a movie. We we went to the movie theaters.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And we watched Jackie Chan.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_08The Shadow's Edge.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_08Which, I mean, it sounds like a movie I've already seen. What are other Shadow and Edge movies by Jackie Chan?
SPEAKER_02I mean, the The Knight of Shadows is like the first one that comes to mind. Um, but that's not Edge.
SPEAKER_08No, but it's a Shadow.
SPEAKER_02Uh Snake and the Eagle Shadow.
SPEAKER_08Mm-hmm. Uh the Shaolin one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Shadowlin.
SPEAKER_02Shadow. Shadowlin.
SPEAKER_08Shadowlin.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay. Yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_08What was that one?
SPEAKER_02Shaolin Woodenmen.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Shadowy Wooden Men. Yeah. Something like that. And then there's other things. Yeah. We watched the movie and it was really good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. It was. Jackie was in the movie.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And there was another older guy in the movie and a bunch of teenagers.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Who were uh stealing things.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they were robbing banks.
SPEAKER_08Like Oh yeah, that too. Like money. Stealing money.
SPEAKER_02Or like crypto.
SPEAKER_08Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They did that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. They were like hackers and and could do those things.
SPEAKER_08The things that they do. They and things with the Jackie. Jackie got together uh uh undercover crew and um was taking care of one specific police lady.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So that's what happened.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's what happened. And this movie kind of reminded me a little bit of uh new police story.
SPEAKER_08Teenagers.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Teenagers robbing banks. He has a younger uh partner that he's uh teaming up with and uh chasing the bank robbers.
SPEAKER_08That he has a long story with.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, the partner.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yep. But he's aware of it this time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he he is.
SPEAKER_08Anyway, we watched this movie on Friday and then on Saturday I didn't see you. Oh yeah, wait, wait, wait, wait. Before we saw the movie, we were gonna go for a walk.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_08We were gonna try to find a trail on the way to the city and we ended up walking towards the city.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the trail to the city.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, the bike path to the city is not the same trail that we were looking for.
SPEAKER_02No, but we I think we pretty much figured out where we should have which turn we should have taken.
SPEAKER_08Pretty quickly.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but then we just kept on going and we caught the next bus to the city. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So yeah, but Sunday I worked in Stockholm for the first time, and that was interesting because it was chaotic and I had never worked in that location before.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_08But I survived.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. How five hours. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02How did it go finding your way in Stockholm?
SPEAKER_08Um, not great.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08I still wandered circles and then actually getting to Stockholm was like issues.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Because that's usually the easiest part.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I know. But I went into the city to catch the train to Stockholm. I had booked a seat on this train.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_08And I had been standing there waiting for like 20 minutes for the train to arrive. It arrives, and then I have to find my specific seat. I have to find the right train car to go into.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And as I'm, you know, going down the tracks trying to find the right train car, it closes its doors and leaves without me.
SPEAKER_03Oh.
SPEAKER_08But I had my eye on another train on another track that was leaving just a few minutes later that I think I would have rather gone with anyway.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_08So I uh got myself a ticket for that and took that train instead.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_08Which was nice.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, if it's better, then it's better.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So I took that train into Stockholm and I did my shift, and then I found my way back to the trains, and I took pretty much the same train back, but I had a different ticket. I was just testing it out, see if it would work, and it didn't work. I had to buy another ticket on top of that. So Yeah. And it's so awkward.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08When you've got the guy like standing there, like waiting for you to buy another ticket, and I'm like, I'm so sorry. And like, I uh I didn't even know. And he's like, Oh, well, it's not me, you have to apologize to next time you're gonna get like a fine.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08It's like, okay.
SPEAKER_02So they they keep track of that?
SPEAKER_08I don't think so.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_08No, that I feel like he was being nice this time, but he was like so you could tell he was bored of his job and he was bored of the BS that I'm sure that everyone gives him. Yeah. Not everyone, but a lot of people about tickets and stuff. Yeah. He wasn't enjoying his life.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_08He was a sad train guy. Anyway, I got home. I got home late. But that's just what happens.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08It hasn't
Sims Chaos And Home Life Bits
SPEAKER_08been much. I got drawn back into The Sims.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_08So that's what I've been doing for the past couple days.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And my youngest uh sick child, he's a big nerd. He also wants to play The Sims, but he calls them the Swims.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And he was able to download it onto the PlayStation.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08And he has been creating several families. They're all black families. Everyone is named Sick Child.
SPEAKER_02From Beverly Hills Cup.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Pick a character. Any of them. They're all named Eddie Murphy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Or something.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Um, so yeah, I I built my family and I built us a house like you do. And uh my life partner has set the stove on fire three times, even though he's the only one who likes cooking.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. He's usually good at cooking. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Well, he has to learn.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08You can like things, but you also have to learn how to do it correctly.
SPEAKER_02Is that how he started out?
SPEAKER_08I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Maybe.
SPEAKER_08I'm not sure. I don't think I've ever started a fire on the stove.
SPEAKER_02Neither have I.
SPEAKER_08Uh maybe the microwave. Okay. Popcorn?
SPEAKER_02No, I've never done that either.
SPEAKER_08Actually, I don't think it was me. I think someone else put popcorn in the microwave and it caught on fire.
SPEAKER_00Ah, okay.
SPEAKER_08It was in there too long. That's when you know it's done, I think. Is when the popcorn catches on fire.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Or you go like maybe a little bit more.
SPEAKER_08Just in case.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you never know.
SPEAKER_08I like my popcorn, like I like my marshmallows. Uh. Completely engulfed in flames.
SPEAKER_02Marshmallows are tricky though, because they can go down into the flames.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Into the fire.
SPEAKER_08If it's if it's too long. Yeah. And then today's Friday. Yes. It is for once. But what have you been up to other than Toy Story, which I'll probably end up keeping?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Uh yeah, on one one day I went to see Toy Story, but on One Day.
SPEAKER_08Like you're telling me a story.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, one day. Yeah. Toy Story 5, by the way, not the first one.
SPEAKER_08You didn't watch all of them before you went?
SPEAKER_02I didn't. I remembered them.
SPEAKER_08You memorized all the movies. And then you're like, I'm gonna go watch the next one.
SPEAKER_02Yep.
SPEAKER_08I have all of these memorized.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And fun story. On Sunday, I finished my puzzle.
SPEAKER_08Oh yeah. The one piece puzzle.
SPEAKER_02A thousand pieces.
SPEAKER_08Mm-hmm. Yeah. Well, good job.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08That's it.
SPEAKER_02Now I just have to find a frame for it.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I need to frame it.
SPEAKER_08And then sell it.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_08No?
SPEAKER_02Put it on my wall.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Wow.
SPEAKER_02On my wall. Wally.
SPEAKER_08Gotta put it on my Wally. Here you go, Wally. Wally.
SPEAKER_02Weirdo.
SPEAKER_08Um, you finished your puzzle. I did. You saw a movie.
SPEAKER_02I did.
SPEAKER_08Without me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Without my knees too.
SPEAKER_08Without your knees. Uh, you didn't want me with you.
SPEAKER_02I I uh I'm pretty sure you didn't want to go.
SPEAKER_08I didn't want to go.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_08I haven't seen the last one. No. The fourth one. No. Because the third one traumatized me. Um what else have you been up to?
SPEAKER_02Not much.
SPEAKER_08That's it? Yeah. You did some sawing? I did saw chain sawing.
SPEAKER_02Nose hand sawing. Hand sawing.
SPEAKER_08You looked at your hands.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I saw my hands.
SPEAKER_03That's not good.
SPEAKER_01You're not supposed to do that. And apparently my niece, since they're gone. Yeah. You want to watch a movie with me.
SPEAKER_08Okay, that's cool. Today is Friday.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08We're gonna record and then we're going to chaperone. Not chaperone. We're volunteering to uh watch movies.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Jurassic Park. Volunteering?
SPEAKER_08That sounds like Velociraptor.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08We should show up in costumes. Oh Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02Goodness.
SPEAKER_08We should show up as dinosaurs.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_08I wanna be I wanna be a velociraptor.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_08How fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, have fun.
SPEAKER_08Have fun. Anyway.
SPEAKER_02Like all of them have tails though. And you can't really sit that well.
SPEAKER_08Then I'm gonna run around as a dinosaur.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08What? What's the big deal?
SPEAKER_02What if I wanna sit?
SPEAKER_08No. I wanna watch the movie. Okay.
SPEAKER_02We've already seen it though.
SPEAKER_08Would you like to movie on?
SPEAKER_02Let's movie on.
SPEAKER_08It's August 14th.
Birthday Plans And Fast Food Disasters
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Oh yeah, your daughter had a birthday too.
SPEAKER_08She did. Which I was going to talk about.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08You know, when I say that I didn't really do much this week, I actually meant that my daughter had a birthday. She turned 11 on the 11th.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And we went to a trampoline park. Okay. Which was fun. She got to take a friend with her. Then we went to McDonald's only because Pizza Hut's ice cream machine wasn't working.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08You wanna know how upset I was? That everyone decided they wanted to go to McDonald's instead of Pizza Hut just because of the ice cream.
SPEAKER_02No, uh uh yeah.
SPEAKER_08And then we go to McDonald's, and how many people ordered ice cream? I was a bit frustrated. I also really wanted to go to Pizza Hut. Of course.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, pizza good. But also McDonald's good.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I'm just I've been extremely disappointed with McDonald's for a long time. I'm gonna tell you something. Yeah. Okay? We went to uh McDonald's in Vesteros. Vester Rosh. Western Roses.
SPEAKER_02Westerose.
SPEAKER_08Wester Rose.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's the Game of Thrones place.
SPEAKER_08A place, uh a location pretty central. Nearby the train station. Lots of people probably go through there daily.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08This place, disgusting. Oh. The second you walk in, your feet are stuck to the floor. Sticky floors. Tables not clean.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_08They have a tray system instead of throwing your own trash away.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So already there's trash everywhere. And then you know how on the kiosks they have the option to have your food served to you or you go get the food yourself.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_08We asked for getting served, or we selected served to the table and they start screaming out our numbers instead. Okay. Like at five guys.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And we're like expecting them to bring it to us.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And they just keep yelling out the numbers. They're not going to do that. The bathrooms in all McDonald's always.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08Disgusting. Awful.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_08You're lucky if you have toilet paper in there.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Huh.
SPEAKER_08Is this not a typical experience?
SPEAKER_02I don't know much about the bathrooms.
SPEAKER_08You don't use bathrooms. You pee under the table.
SPEAKER_02I I usually don't pee that much. Uh you pee every five minutes, so you should know.
SPEAKER_08Don't make fun of me. I'm not here to be judged. No.
SPEAKER_02But yes, I I have to say, last time I I went to McDonald's, the patties felt like eating cardboard.
SPEAKER_08Yep.
SPEAKER_02And uh yeah, not great. And also with the fries, I um ordered uh the cheese to dip in.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Oh, okay, okay. Cheese dip.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, cheese dip. And it tasted kind of tasted like like it was old.
SPEAKER_08Oh, that's good. Cool. Yeah. Oldie cheese? That's a thing. Yeah. You know.
SPEAKER_02But not the thing I wanted.
SPEAKER_08No, okay. And then when we went to Mux, we went recently, like yesterday, maybe the day before. To Mux. We went to Mux and I ordered fries. I ordered sweet potato fries. The other people I was with, they also ordered fries. But they're so, so skinny.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08There's like nothing to them. They're just potato sticks. I wasn't really well, I mean, they are technically potato sticks.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08But there's a difference between like potato sticks, the chips, and fries.
SPEAKER_02Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_08They're supposed to have like that potato inside, like mashed potato, like softer potato and not just a hollow shell of potato.
SPEAKER_02No, okay.
SPEAKER_08And it was just really disappointing. Okay. I want more to my fries than just a tiny little stick of potato.
SPEAKER_02I have to say though, their uh cheese dip is way better than McDonald's.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah. I mean, I like that they have more alternatives for their food. Like, they're not just like cheeseburgers with bread and or like chicken patties that are breaded. They have the grilled chicken now that are not breaded.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08And they also have the lettuce wraps. Yeah. That makes me feel like I can still enjoy something. Yeah. And be good while eating out.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Anyway. Today's Friday. Today's Friday. It's August 14th. We watched movies.
SPEAKER_02We did.
SPEAKER_08What do you like to move on?
SPEAKER_02Let's move beyond.
Two Movie Reviews And Hot Takes
SPEAKER_08Today we watched that first movie. Yeah. With Adam Sandler. I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08That was the whole thing?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Okay. We also watched The Terminal.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08The Terminator.
SPEAKER_04Almost.
SPEAKER_08Two. The second one. The Terminal Velocities. Velociraptors.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Velocitor. Velocitors. Raptors. Yep. The movie. Okay. Part two.
SPEAKER_02Sure.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Tell me about Chuck and Larry.
SPEAKER_02This is a movie with Adam Sandler and Kevin James and a whole bunch of other people.
SPEAKER_08Everyone else.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And uh Rob Schneider is playing a Japanese in this one.
SPEAKER_08David Spade was my favorite.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08He usually is. If he pops up, he's usually my favorite.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I'm thinking, I wonder if they could make the Rob Schneider character these days. Because it was almost like a little too much. Yeah. But anyways, Kevin James has financial problems with some pension fund or what is it? Anyway, he needs to m marry someone to get money or to keep some money.
SPEAKER_08And uh so he So that someone can or his kids can benefit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah if something would happen.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, because he's they're firefighters.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, uh yeah, exactly. And his wife died like a year ago.
SPEAKER_03Today.
SPEAKER_02Today.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And this movie takes place in 2007.
SPEAKER_03Today.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, today. Okay, so uh he he's like, okay, I'm gonna marry Adam Sandler. Because uh Adam Sandler owe him a favor.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because he saved his life.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh the movie is about two straight guys who gonna marry and pretend to be gay.
SPEAKER_08Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02That that's basically it. And they are firefighters. So what did you think about this movie?
SPEAKER_08I did enjoy this movie more than I thought I would.
SPEAKER_02Had you seen it before?
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02No, okay.
SPEAKER_08I don't know. I don't know what else to say.
SPEAKER_02No. I really like this one. It's a really good movie. It's really funny and yeah, it's stupid and has a lot of heart.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. I figured it was gonna be a lot dumber than it was.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08But it was good. It was funny, and they uh really made a point to like include the lettered people, uh like the gay culture and stuff.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I don't know all the letters and no matter what you say, you're gonna forget about something. So I'm just gonna say the lettered people.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_08You should know what I mean. All people, despite their sexual orientations.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. And I'm thinking, so they have to prove that they're gay, but why can't they be uh uh bi? That that should count too.
SPEAKER_08This is 2007, yeah, exactly. That's why.
SPEAKER_02Why? I mean uh they still had bi back then.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah. Yes, yes they did. That's all.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay. No, it's it's just so weird.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and I feel like this is always going to be an issue.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08No matter what.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I liked it.
SPEAKER_08So did I.
SPEAKER_02Good.
SPEAKER_08Is there a second one?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_08No, okay. Can I tell you about the terminal?
SPEAKER_02Yes, please do.
SPEAKER_08This is a movie with uh Russian Tom Hanks who gets stuck in an airport forever.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_08That's all.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08That's it. He's stuck in the terminal, terminal 67.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. I know how that is. Okay. Sometimes it feels like I'm also trapped in an airport for days.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So this movie is based on your life.
SPEAKER_08Pretty much. Yeah. A true story.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It is actually a true story.
SPEAKER_08I believe it.
SPEAKER_02Or based on a true story.
SPEAKER_08On me.
SPEAKER_02No, actually someone else. I think it was in France. My friend. In France.
SPEAKER_08Oh, okay. In Paris. I think it was your friends.
SPEAKER_02So it might be the future you when you go to Paris.
SPEAKER_08Right. I've been to Paris before, but I never left the airport. No. So it was probably me.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08I never left the airport.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_08I think I'm still there.
SPEAKER_02Maybe.
SPEAKER_08I left my soul in the airport.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. This is all like a hallucination.
SPEAKER_08I think so. You ever think about that?
SPEAKER_02Like the Matrix?
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Yeah. Like what if what if what if you uh died in a terrible car accident, but your like uh soul?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Or like, you know, your just existence keeps going in some kind yeah, in some kind of weird hallucination or other dimension. Like we're really just uh stuffed animals. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02If you think about it. I mean uh this is w what is it? Multiverse thing. I mean, when I think that if if you die, that's another multiverse without you. And you all the close calls you had, those uh actually were accidents in other universes. Yeah. So it's just this one that keeps ongoing.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. And you're like never actually aware of what actually happened to you.
SPEAKER_02No, yeah, exactly. So in I could have died several times already. Yeah, me too. And in some uh universe, I'm s really sad because you died.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And vice versa.
SPEAKER_08Maybe.
SPEAKER_02You might be a little a little bit like uh maybe.
SPEAKER_08I mean it's oh well.
SPEAKER_02Too bad. It's uh that's too bad.
SPEAKER_01Now I have to edit myself.
SPEAKER_08That sucks, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_01Stupid Matias, go die on me.
SPEAKER_08Wish you'd die again.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08No. Anyway.
SPEAKER_02Anyway.
SPEAKER_08Did you like the movie? What did you think?
SPEAKER_02I do really like this movie. You've seen it. Yeah. And it's one of the few movies he made after the 80s that I actually enjoy. Because um I mean it's not funny. No, this one is funny at times. So I I do actually enjoy this one. I first time I saw it, it I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
SPEAKER_08Was it is it 95?
SPEAKER_02This movie. Yeah. No, 2004.
SPEAKER_08Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. What did you think of this movie?
SPEAKER_08I enjoyed the movie because I could relate to it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I've never actually seen the movie.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08I have walked by as my life partner watched the movie a couple times. Oh. So I was familiar with the general idea of the movie. But that's it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I liked it though.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08That's all I have to say about that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I get the reference.
SPEAKER_08Was it Tom Hanks?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Cool.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Would you like to take a break?
Break Time And Reset
SPEAKER_02Yeah, let's take a break.
SPEAKER_08Do you have anything else to say?
SPEAKER_02Not before the break.
SPEAKER_08Okay. You have more to say after the break.
SPEAKER_02Maybe. Maybe. We'll see.
SPEAKER_08Alright. We'll be right back.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Bye.
SPEAKER_00Bye.
Good News Bad News Podcast Ending
SPEAKER_08We're back.
SPEAKER_02Yes, we are.
SPEAKER_08Maybe we should start off the second half with some news.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Some updates in life.
SPEAKER_02Is it good or bad news?
SPEAKER_08Uh good news and bad news.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Which one would you like first?
SPEAKER_02Good news.
SPEAKER_08Okay. The good news is that I'm going back to school.
SPEAKER_02That's cool.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Soon. And um it's gonna be chaotic for a while. And yeah, exciting things are happening.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I'm going back to work.
SPEAKER_08That's really exciting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I'm happy for you. Which bring brings me to the bad news. The podcast.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08It's been fun, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And uh we've been doing this for the past 195 weeks.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And we never really saw an end to it.
SPEAKER_04Not really.
SPEAKER_08But I feel like we're getting there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I feel like the end is near.
SPEAKER_04Oh. Yeah, yes.
SPEAKER_08For the podcast. But it's been fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it has been fun. And uh we have both been like um uh talking about it, and uh we agree that maybe it's the best to end it soon.
SPEAKER_08Around 200?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Because that feels like a good ending place.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, good round number.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So for five more episodes, we will continue and we'll have a going away party.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08After that. And so that's what we've been up to.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Is planning to kill the ghosts.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. We're letting them go to the other side.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. As fun as this is, it can be stressful. Yeah. And editing takes time, which is a terrible excuse.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08But I feel like it also puts a strain on our relationship as friends.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Because something that is supposed to be fun feels more like work chores and it's too much. So, I mean, we've had fun, but it needs to come to an end.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Before it becomes Yeah, becomes no fun.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Which I feel like it might be getting to that point.
SPEAKER_02We we had that and yeah, it's uh it it could end up there too, you know. Yeah again.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And we don't want that.
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02And also we we don't really have good numbers.
SPEAKER_08No, we've been doing this for three years and like we don't have much of a following.
SPEAKER_02No. So But we have one loyal, at least one loyal fan.
SPEAKER_08Yes.
SPEAKER_02That we're really thankful for.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Alright. Well, enough of that. Yeah. Back to the episode.
SPEAKER_02Back to the good part.
SPEAKER_08Back to the good part. Today
OpenEyes Tips For New School
SPEAKER_08we are playing with open eyes again, as usual. And um, well, I am going back to school. And it's nervous.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Right? Because I'm I'm going to a new school with new people and I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Meet new friends?
SPEAKER_08No, probably not. Maybe friends, but not besties.
SPEAKER_02No. Good.
SPEAKER_08I don't have enough space in my life for another person.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_08So I wrote to OpenEyes. I'm going back to school soon. I'd like a crash course on how to deal with my first few days in an unfamiliar situation and people. Because I'm really nervous. I don't know how nervous I am. I am nervous, but you know, ugh, whatever.
SPEAKER_02It's just people.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So open eyes says, being nervous makes sense. Your brain is basically looking at a room full of unknown variables and yelling, we have no map.
SPEAKER_02That's what you should yell.
SPEAKER_08I have no map.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08The good news is that the first few days are not a test of whether you can instantly fit in. They're mostly alright, never mind.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Word I cannot pronounce.
SPEAKER_01Uh an English word?
SPEAKER_08Yes, an English word.
SPEAKER_02Ah, cool.
SPEAKER_08They're mostly English word here. Yes. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Any word. Oh, we can fill in the blank. Yeah, we can make it a Madlib. Madlin.
SPEAKER_08Okay, so give me a I don't know what this word is.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Um carpets.
SPEAKER_08They're mostly carpet. Okay. Your first day mission is observe, participate, and survive. You only need to accomplish three things. Observe, participate, survive. Yeah, that's it. Okay, no. Number one is figure out the geography. Good luck.
SPEAKER_02Okay. You need a map for that.
SPEAKER_08I have no map. Find your classroom. Bathrooms, very important. That's the first place I got.
SPEAKER_02You already know that.
SPEAKER_08I already know where the bathroom is.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Cafeteria, second most important. Library, whatever. Entrances, more like exits. And whatever yours wherever you're supposed to go between classes. The exit. Find the exit. Uh getting lost once is normal.
SPEAKER_02I thought that was part of the the list. Like getting lost. Yep. Check.
SPEAKER_08Getting lost while pretending you know exactly where you're going is also normal. Okay. So how many times can you get lost before it's unacceptable anymore? Yeah, that's like you really should know where you're going by now. Like, no, I'm still lost. I don't know where I am.
SPEAKER_02How if you would take a guess, how many times do you think would be acceptable?
SPEAKER_08I would hope three. It's gonna be more than that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay. Yeah, eventually.
SPEAKER_08The whole first week, I'm gonna be like, I don't know where I am.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I've seen this before, but I don't know.
SPEAKER_08I don't remember where I'm going. Number two, learn a few names. You don't need a whole social circle. Aim for two or three names per day. Good luck with that.
SPEAKER_02Like random names or I hope so. Just can come up with names for people.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, well, I'll probably usually do that. We usually do did that at work. You usually just give them a good nickname. Whatever's close enough.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_08When someone introduces themselves, repeat their name naturally. Nice to meet you. Um trash guy, I guess. I think your name is. Trash Man. Nice to meet you, trash man. That's what I've been calling you for the past since I met you. Since I first saw you. Trash man. It helps your memory and makes the interaction warmer. Okay. Number three. Have tiny interactions.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_08Hands.
SPEAKER_02Have tiny hands.
SPEAKER_08Yep. Don't aim for instant friendships. Please don't be my friend.
SPEAKER_02No, not this fast.
SPEAKER_08Aim for the small openings. Oh. With your tiny hands. Is this the right room?
SPEAKER_01Wait.
SPEAKER_08Have you had this teacher before? Do we have homework for tomorrow? Oh, these are questions you're supposed to ask other people. Oh, okay. In the classroom. So I'm gonna sit there in my seat. I'm just gonna I'm just gonna start looking at people and be like, is this the right room?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_08Have you had this teacher before? Do we have homework for tomorrow? We haven't even started.
SPEAKER_02This is what you ask after talking about the map thing.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Yeah. I have no map. Mind if I sit here? I'm already sitting. Is it okay if I sit here? What did you think of that class? We haven't started yet.
SPEAKER_01I have no map. We're outside the school.
SPEAKER_08Where's the nearest exit?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I already know where the bathroom is.
SPEAKER_01So don't tell me.
SPEAKER_08I'll tell you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Why would you tell me the bathroom?
SPEAKER_08Don't tell me where the bathroom is. Where's the exit?
SPEAKER_01Whatever you do. Whatever you do, don't tell me where the bathroom is.
SPEAKER_08Show me the nearest vending machine, please.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, that's a good one.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Uh these are conversational training wheels. You can take them off later. When you feel awkward.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and that's when you fall fall over.
SPEAKER_08Oh yeah. No, the next one is when you feel awkward. Oh, okay. So these are the only lines I'm gonna use for the first week. Yeah. Okay. Is this the right room?
SPEAKER_01You're gonna read it off the list.
SPEAKER_08Like I have no map. Is this the right room? Have you had This teacher before. We've had this teacher all week. This is by Friday. Yeah. Do we have homework for tomorrow? Stop asking. Mind if I sit here? Uh is it okay if I sit here? I think what did you think of that class? Help.
SPEAKER_02I think at the end of the term or t'amine, you should ask those questions.
SPEAKER_03Do we have homework?
SPEAKER_01Have you had this teacher before?
SPEAKER_08Can I sit here? When you feel awkward, here's an important secret. You are dramatically more visible to yourself than you are to everyone else. If you stumble over your words, walk into the wrong room, sit somewhere weird. Can I sit here? Or spend five minutes standing around looking confused. Yeah. Just five minutes. I'm gonna be there for like twenty minutes. Like, where am I? Most people will register it for approximately three seconds. Unless I'm still standing there. They're gonna be like, where are you going? What are you doing? What are you supposed to be doing? Uh if something embarrassing happens, don't conduct a courtroom trial about it in your head. I read condom.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Don't condom it.
SPEAKER_08Don't condom it. Think, yes, that was awkward. Anyway, then continue. Okay, but that's not gonna happen because I'm going to repeat it in my head.
SPEAKER_02And two people.
SPEAKER_08And two people? What?
SPEAKER_02And uh you're gonna repeat it to people.
SPEAKER_08Uh yeah. I'm gonna tell you all about it.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08And then it's just gonna keep going in my head, like, oh my god, why? How do I approach people when you're nervous? Look for people who are alone but not obviously trying to be alone. How do I know?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08What if they're just sitting there like, please leave me alone? Yeah. Excuse me, can I talk to you or do you want to be alone?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Are you alone or are you alone in there? Do you want to be alone?
SPEAKER_08Can I talk to you? They're obvious.
SPEAKER_01Why are you alone?
SPEAKER_08Why are you alone? Where are we? Have you been here before? I don't have a map.
SPEAKER_01Have you had this teacher?
SPEAKER_08Can I sit here? Uh they're often the easiest people to approach. I don't know though. You don't need to walk up and announce yourself like you're opening diplomatic relations. Context does the work for you.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_08So if you're in this situation, someone is sitting near you before class, and you say, Hey, I'm new here. Is this seat and taken? Sleet sleet taiken. Sleet tiken. That's what they'll say.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Is this sleet taiken? You're like, sleet. Okay, the next situation is you're both waiting for a teacher. Do we even have a teacher? You say, Do you know what we're supposed to bring for this class? I don't know. The next situation, someone says something funny. You. Ha ha. Laugh. Then add, okay, that was actually good.
SPEAKER_01Or just okay.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Laugh. Okay. No, you just say laugh.
SPEAKER_02Okay, laugh.
SPEAKER_08Laugh. Okay, that was good.
SPEAKER_02Or you can scream, disappointed!
SPEAKER_08Disappointed. Do better. The trick is to give people something easy to respond to. Questions are excellent for this. The anxiety trick that actually matters. Uh don't wait until you feel confident before acting. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08Confidence often arrives after you've done the scary thing several times. So your goal isn't I must stop being nervous. It is I can be nervous and still do the next tiny thing.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Whatever that means.
SPEAKER_02Do the next tiny thing.
SPEAKER_08I can still be nervous. That's okay. Is your heart pounding? Ask where the classroom is anyway.
SPEAKER_01Are you still alive? Okay, you can ask anyway.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Are you feeling shy? Say hello anyway. Worried someone won't like you? They probably don't. No, sit down anyway. Uh whatever. Uh that's how your brain gradually learns. Oh, we apparently survived this. That wasn't the end. Oh that's all.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08Your first week rule don't make conclusions too early.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_08If day one feels lonely, that doesn't mean you'll be lonely. That's not always true. But whatever. You might decide day one that I'm gonna be lonely. I don't get along with anyone here.
SPEAKER_02No, and some people assume they pick up on that. Assume that you wanna be left alone.
SPEAKER_08So I don't get along with anyone in this class. They're not my people. I'm just gonna be alone. Whatever. If everyone seems intimidating, that doesn't mean they dislike you. What if I don't like them?
SPEAKER_02What if you look intimidating?
SPEAKER_08I am intimidating. I've heard.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Have I? Do people think I'm intimidating?
SPEAKER_02No, I don't I don't think so. I haven't heard that.
SPEAKER_08Only the people I want to intimidate find me intimidating.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Everyone else probably doesn't.
SPEAKER_02No. I don't find you intimidating. Should I? Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_08I should scare you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Um if you don't click with anyone immediately, that doesn't mean there's something wrong with you. That's them. Yeah, it's wrong. Something wrong with them.
SPEAKER_02So that's why what you should ask them. What's wrong with you?
SPEAKER_08What's wrong with you? Can I even sit here?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Have you had this teacher before?
SPEAKER_08Have you ever even been here? Why are you lost? I know where I am all the time.
SPEAKER_02I know where the bathroom is.
SPEAKER_08I know where the bathroom is. Not the vending machine though.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_08Schools have social ecosystems that take a little time to decode. Give yourself a couple of weeks, not a couple of hours.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08And remember, plenty of other people are nervous too. Some of them are simply better at wearing the totally normal human who definitely knows what they're doing costume.
SPEAKER_02Wearing a human.
SPEAKER_08Yep. Some people are already wearing human skin costumes. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Cool.
SPEAKER_08So you're not the only weirdo in the room.
SPEAKER_02Disgusting.
SPEAKER_08You're not disgusting. They are.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. You're the one with the human skin costume. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I'm the only one wearing this. How embarrassing if two people skin costume is too big for me. Gross. Aw, saggy face. Disgusting. Okay. A tiny emergence reset. If you get overwhelmed during the day, stop, breathe slowly, look around, identify the next physical action. Don't worry about how am I going to sub survive this entire school year. Just where do I need to go next? Then do that one thing. You don't have to conquer, conquer the whole school in one in day one, on day one, right? You just need to walk through the next door. Then the next one. And another door. And door and door and door. Eventually this you'll walk through the right door.
SPEAKER_02I mean, you're gonna be so lost.
SPEAKER_08I'm walking through all of the doors. Is this my classroom? Is this my classroom? Can I sit here? Is this my teacher? Are you my teacher? Are you my classmates?
SPEAKER_01I know where the bathroom is.
SPEAKER_08I know where the bathroom is. Just stick my head through the door. I know where the bathroom is. Okay, bye. Um, yeah, anyway, that's all.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Any questions?
SPEAKER_02Um, I don't have any questions.
SPEAKER_08Okay, so how many times can I get lost before it gets ridiculous? Yeah. Is was the question. And open eyes says, honestly, a lot more than you think. On your first day, somewhere unfamiliar, one to two times is completely normal.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08Three to five times, still fine. You're learning the layout. Six plus times, congratulations, you've unlocked the school's hidden maze. Getting lost every day for several weeks. That's gonna that's gonna be the case. Yeah. I'm sorry. At that point, some uh probably worth asking someone to show you the route. And here's the important bit asking for directions isn't embarrassing. Are you sure? What do you mean? You can't just arrive somewhere somewhere and pretend that you know exactly where you're going.
SPEAKER_03Exactly.
SPEAKER_08And whatever. People generally won't think, wow, what an idiot. They'll think, yep, new person. You don't want to be the new person.
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_08If you're worried about it, arrive 10 to 15 minutes early the first day and use that time to locate your classrooms. Take a photo of your timetable, and if allowed, make a quick mental map of the important places. Okay, I'm gonna talk about some poor first day behavior.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
First-Day Mistakes And How To Recover
SPEAKER_08Which is always the fun part.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Okay. What not to do.
SPEAKER_08What not to do on your first day of school. Here's the short version. Short version in quotations.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_08Right. Okay, here's a list of things not to do on your first day of school. Being rude or dismissive to teachers, staff, or classmates.
SPEAKER_02Yes. Maybe you shouldn't uh uh like uh scream, I hate school. Yeah, or brag about you know where all the bathrooms are.
SPEAKER_08I know where the bathrooms are. Trying too hard to impress people, especially by breaking rules or making fun of others.
SPEAKER_02Okay, yeah. The same goes for that one.
SPEAKER_08I know where the bathrooms are.
SPEAKER_02You don't.
SPEAKER_08You don't know where the bathrooms are. I'm not telling you my secrets. Interrupting constantly or talking over people, ignoring instructions because you want to seem independent. I don't even need to be in this classroom. I know everything already. Uh making jokes at someone else's expense to get laughs. Oh, that's especially if you don't even know the person. It's making fun of strangers. Yeah. You're not supposed to do that. No. Getting involved in gossip or drama immediately. If there's gossip and drama that sparks the second you walk through the school, I think that says something about the other people more than you.
SPEAKER_02Maybe. But don't get involved. I mean, if you spread it forward, maybe it's also about you.
SPEAKER_08I mean it's gonna become about me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Using your phone when you're supposed to be paying attention.
SPEAKER_02Like now? No, I'm okay.
SPEAKER_08I have to answer my emails. I have gymnastics admin stuff I have to do. It's a lot more important than being here right now.
SPEAKER_02Talking to open eyes.
SPEAKER_08Talking to open eyes. Help.
SPEAKER_02How to behave.
SPEAKER_08How to ignore the fact that I am currently peeing myself. I will never think that's not funny.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_08Um asking open eyes how to currently ignore the fact that I am peeing myself right now, like as I am typing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I can picture you as like a 90-year-old. Still laughing at that. Yeah, while peeing you're associated.
SPEAKER_08It will never not be funny.
SPEAKER_01While peeing you're depends.
SPEAKER_08At least at that point, it's appropriate to pee myself.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I look forward to the day when it's okay to pee myself.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and laugh about it.
SPEAKER_08And laugh about it. I pee myself.
SPEAKER_01This takes me back.
SPEAKER_08That one time when I asked open eyes how to ignore the fact that I am currently peeing myself. Okay, another one. Assuming people already know who you are, or expecting them to accommodate you. Do you even know who I am?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_08You know who I am. How do you not know who I am? You haven't seen me before? You're like, it's me, the I have a super popular podcast.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08You don't know who I am?
SPEAKER_01It's me, Laura. You know?
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Refusing to okay, it says ask for help, but I was gonna read eat.
SPEAKER_02Eat help.
SPEAKER_08Refusing to eat.
SPEAKER_02Eat for help.
SPEAKER_08For help. Because you're afraid of looking new. Only the new kids eat around here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Judging everyone too quickly. Whoops.
SPEAKER_01That's gonna be uh the biggest problem for you.
SPEAKER_08Maybe out loud, I should add to that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I'm sure judging internally. That's a natural response to for everyone.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Someone being quiet, awkward, loud, or unfriendly on day one tells you very little about them. Except for the fact that they are quiet, awkward, loud, or unfriendly. Is what I'm assuming.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. At the same time.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm quiet, loud, and friendly.
SPEAKER_08I am in a nutshell. Yeah. I am quiet, awkward, loud, and unfriendly. Don't talk to me. Okay. Um, panicking over small mistakes and then letting the embarrassment control the rest of your day. Hello. Okay.
SPEAKER_01No more comments.
SPEAKER_08I have nothing else to say about that. No. Um, okay, one particularly sneaky one. Trying to act like you're not nervous when you actually are.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Sure. Wait, uh you're not supposed to Don't pretend you're not nervous.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Everyone's nervous.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08You don't need to perform confidence. This is an acting school. It's film school. Being polite, curious, and reasonably relaxed is plenty. What should I do if I behave badly on the first day? Let's see what happens. Yeah. That's all I have. What should I do if I happen to have bad behavior?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It just happens.
SPEAKER_08Whoops. I uh don't go back. I think. If you happen to behave badly on the first day, don't turn one bad moment into a bad week.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So you shouldn't double down on it?
SPEAKER_08No. I'm not a quitter. I'm gonna hold on to this role the whole time. Quiet, awkward, loud, and unfriendly. Number one, stop.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_08Don't keep digging the hole because you're embarrassed. Two, own it quickly. A simple sorry, that wasn't okay. Is usually much better than a high five. Five-minute explanation.
SPEAKER_02Like, that didn't happen.
SPEAKER_08That didn't happen. It wasn't me.
SPEAKER_02No, that was someone else.
SPEAKER_08It was definitely that guy.
SPEAKER_01My twin sister.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. She also goes to this school.
SPEAKER_01She quit now though.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, she went home. I'm better behaved than she is. Then everyone's gonna call you a schizo. It wasn't me. Okay, number three. Fix what you can. If you interrupted someone, let them finish. But I already interrupted them.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So what's the point?
SPEAKER_02I have to finish first.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Let me finish.
SPEAKER_02Don't interrupt me. Yeah, you can talk later.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. If you were rude, apologize. If you broke a rule, follow it from that point onward. What if I forgot that I broke the rule?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Or that the rule existed to begin with.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, someone needs to remind you.
SPEAKER_08Please remind me. What are the rules? Don't obsess over it. Number four.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Uh your brain may replay the incident in glorious 4K while everyone else has already moved on. I doubt it. I don't think they've moved on. Everyone else is repeating it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08As well.
SPEAKER_01You've been to school before.
SPEAKER_08I've done this before. I know what's going on. Number five, don't try to compensate by becoming unnaturally perfect. You don't need to spend the rest of the day acting like a Victorian diplomat. What is that?
SPEAKER_02I thought you were gonna say victim.
SPEAKER_08A victim. Just behave normally and respectfully. If you seriously crossed a line.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_08If you hurt, threatened, bullied, humiliated, or deliberately damaged something, take it seriously. What if I did all the above?
SPEAKER_02That that's when you're gonna play the victim.
SPEAKER_08They attacked me. It wasn't my fault. Apologize where appropriate. And tell a teacher or another responsible adult that is more adult than you are. What happened? Don't try to hide it or pressure the other person to forgive you. And if you're nervous enough that you're worried you might behave badly because you panic, remember this. You are allowed to pause.
SPEAKER_02You're loud.
SPEAKER_08You're loud. And you need to pause.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08You're being unfriendly. You can say, sorry, I'm a bit nervous. Give me a second. I'm still nervous. Hold on.
SPEAKER_02You could say a lot of things if you think about it.
SPEAKER_08I could say whatever I wanted. Really. I could say I'm Johnny Depp if you wanted me to. I just did.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And I'm Robert Downey Jr.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Cool.
SPEAKER_08I think I am at least.
SPEAKER_02I didn't know we met.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Is this a movie?
SPEAKER_08I think so.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_08Hello and welcome back. I am still Johnny Depp.
SPEAKER_02And I'm RTJ.
SPEAKER_08Cool. Alright. Well, I think that's pretty much all I had. Hopefully I can have good behavior on my first day of school and not get too lost.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so are you more nervous now that you will actually be bad?
SPEAKER_08I might slip up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. You you think about what not to do and do that. Yep. Just because you think about what not to do.
SPEAKER_08Exactly.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Alright. As we
Cards Against Humanity And Closing
SPEAKER_08reach the end of this episode, do you have something that's ruining your life? I don't know where the cards went. Oh, they're right behind your head. Alright. Let's have cards against humanity tell us what is ruining our lives.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Pick a card, any card.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna pick this one.
SPEAKER_08Okay. What's ruining your life?
SPEAKER_02Chainsaws for hands.
SPEAKER_08That is a problem, isn't it? I saw my hands, so I Oh yeah, you sawed them off.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08You sewed them off? You sewed them. I sewed them off. I unsewed my hands.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So yeah, I uh put chainsaws on there instead.
SPEAKER_08Oh okay.
SPEAKER_02Okay. But uh that's ruining my life.
SPEAKER_08Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_02I ruin a lot of things.
SPEAKER_08I guess so. You're not Edward Scissor Hands, you're Matthias Chainsaw Hands.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02You're Johnny Depp, so.
SPEAKER_08I'm Johnny Depp.
SPEAKER_02Our DJ is chainsaw hands instead.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Okay. What's ruining your life?
SPEAKER_08Pretending to care.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that makes sense.
SPEAKER_08That'll do it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08It's difficult. Um, are you all out of sips?
SPEAKER_02I'm all out of sips, and that means we're all out of episode.
SPEAKER_08Alright, well, so am I.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Cool. I'm also out of episodes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And sips. Would you like to wrap this up?

SPEAKER_08I'm a quitter.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. We're quitters.
SPEAKER_08I'm a quitter. I'm a quitter. I'm also a quitter. I don't know the rest of the song. I'm a quitter. I'm a quitter. Uh yeah.
