Cold Open And 1995 Movie Spiral

SPEAKER_06

Here is the fun and scroll cracking. And here we go, no one knows what we leave the nose.

SPEAKER_08

Are you leaving now?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. We'll finish this up later.

SPEAKER_02

No, you do that. You finish it now. I'm going.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, okay. Alright. Well, that's that's an option, I guess. It's gonna be really short. Because if you leave this room, I'm gonna end it and then I'll edit the whole thing and put it up, and it'll be like three minutes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And then That's including the intro and the outro, which is about three minutes combined.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

So then we're gonna have to uh find uh a title from those seconds that Yeah, which will be the only line you don't have much to pick from.

SPEAKER_03

No, that's true.

SPEAKER_08

So the only line that I managed to get recorded and into the episode, that's gonna be the title. If that's what you want, then you're free to go.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Do you have an idea at all?

SPEAKER_08

No. Any idea? I've never done that.

SPEAKER_02

No, okay.

SPEAKER_01

Sure you haven't.

SPEAKER_08

No.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_08

I don't think I have.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

I feel like I would remember. But I haven't. Okay. So no.

SPEAKER_02

No. You want to talk about it on the podcast?

SPEAKER_08

My lack of experience.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, with that.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Yeah. Um, I I never did that.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, okay. Cool. Cool story.

SPEAKER_08

Thank you. 95.

SPEAKER_02

95.

SPEAKER_08

195.

SPEAKER_02

195.

SPEAKER_08

1995.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Best movie.

SPEAKER_08

I was alive.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah. Me too.

SPEAKER_08

The best movie was that one that I like. That's it. I'm sticking with that one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Which one is that?

SPEAKER_02

You don't like Toy Story, or do you?

SPEAKER_08

I like the first two, but when the third one came out, it got too much. Okay. I was pregnant as well at the time. And I I feel like I've cried every time. It's not that I don't like the franchise.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

I like the movies.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

But I just kind of stopped there because I was afraid I was afraid of the next ones.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay. Well, I must say that the third one is probably the most emotional one.

SPEAKER_08

So Yeah, I don't trust anything else after that.

SPEAKER_02

No. But I have to say I I'm a little disappointed by the last two.

SPEAKER_08

And uh because you saw the fifth one.

SPEAKER_02

I did this week.

SPEAKER_08

Yesterday.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, maybe it was yesterday.

SPEAKER_08

Maybe it was the day before.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think it was the day before because I was talking to my niece yesterday.

SPEAKER_08

That's interesting thing to do.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

How often do you talk to your niece?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean uh You're a lonely guy. I am. And knee number one and knee number two.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, the lefty and righty.

SPEAKER_02

The interesting thing is that my niece left me before I went to the movies.

SPEAKER_08

That is unfortunate. They were too tired. My knees are too tired. I'm gonna leave them on the bus. And I'm just gonna roll to the next one. Okay. That's an unfortunate situation.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

But the first Toy Story came out in 95.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. And I also like uh Rumble in the Bronx.

SPEAKER_08

That is a movie.

SPEAKER_02

Very cool.

SPEAKER_08

We saw it.

SPEAKER_02

The first Jack Chan movie I ever saw.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Not me.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_08

I saw another one.

SPEAKER_02

Rush Hour.

SPEAKER_08

I saw Rush Hour, which did not come out in 95.

SPEAKER_02

No, 98. 98.

SPEAKER_08

98. I was thinking 97. But 98 was probably my second choice. Yeah. And then I would have given up.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

If I was wrong.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_08

97. Okay. We'll get there.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, 98 was uh rush hour.

SPEAKER_08

We'll get there. It was one of the two. Okay. I can't exactly tell you which one it was. No. I'm not gonna sit here and argue with you over which year we think it could be.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_08

That's a matter of opinion. Yeah.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Is it uh I don't think it's a fact.

SPEAKER_02

No, no.

SPEAKER_08

You th you would think. You think it came out.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah, I'm not completely sure because I wasn't I was there, but I I didn't see it at the theaters.

SPEAKER_08

No, I didn't either.

SPEAKER_02

So I don't know.

SPEAKER_08

I didn't even find it while I was going through my mom's movies.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Last time I was there. Because I was thinking if I find it, I'm gonna keep it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

But that didn't happen.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. So you didn't have it?

SPEAKER_08

I did.

SPEAKER_02

You did.

SPEAKER_08

I watched it on repeat.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

It just wasn't there. It's somewhere else.

SPEAKER_02

Someone stole it.

SPEAKER_08

Maybe.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe it was me and you don't know about it.

SPEAKER_08

You were there earlier.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Later last year.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Earlier than today. Yeah. But later last year. You could have stolen it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. But I didn't.

SPEAKER_08

I feel like maybe you'd tell me.

SPEAKER_02

I think so too. I would probably have shown you.

SPEAKER_08

Look what I found.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'm keeping it.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Well, can I also keep it? Can we keep it in here and then just say that we share custody of this movie?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. That's what I was afraid you would say. So that's what it never told me.

SPEAKER_08

You have your own copy.

SPEAKER_02

I yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And so do I. But it's originally mine. Anyway. Anyway. 95.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. 95. No, I'm I'm thinking movies like uh Braveheart.

SPEAKER_08

No.

SPEAKER_02

No one really cares.

SPEAKER_08

Nobody likes that movie. I don't like that movie.

SPEAKER_02

It's very long.

SPEAKER_08

I hate the part when the girl gets licked on the face.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I can't stand it.

SPEAKER_02

But you're you're okay with the beheading and no. No, okay.

SPEAKER_08

I don't know. I mean, no.

SPEAKER_02

You don't really see it though.

SPEAKER_08

No, so it's okay. It's fine.

SPEAKER_02

It's more implied.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. I don't like a lot of things. I don't like torture.

SPEAKER_02

No. And yeah, it's a very long movie.

SPEAKER_08

Who wants to watch a long movie?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I I movies are too long. One one and a half. That's good.

SPEAKER_08

One and a half.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Hours. One and a half hour.

SPEAKER_08

Hours the.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Ooh. Ooh. Sorry.

SPEAKER_02

You don't have to punch me.

SPEAKER_08

I think you're wrong.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

I think you're wrong. Yeah, that's a good reason, actually. I knew you'd understand.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

No one has even opened up the episode.

SPEAKER_02

No, that's true.

SPEAKER_08

But I'm starving.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

What?

SPEAKER_02

Do that then.

SPEAKER_08

I will. I'm gonna sit here and starve.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_08

For the next hour or so. That's my choice.

SPEAKER_02

That sound sounds like a good line.

SPEAKER_08

A good lie.

SPEAKER_02

Uh yeah, a good lie.

SPEAKER_08

You're not that hungry. No. I don't believe you.

SPEAKER_01

You look full to me.

SPEAKER_08

Oh wow. Wow. Okay. Sure. I see. You look like you've been full for a month. Maybe. Maybe I have been. Yeah. I haven't really stopped eating.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_08

95.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_08

What movies came out? Go through your list of people.

SPEAKER_02

List of people. Stallone.

SPEAKER_08

Wasn't alive yet.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, it was.

SPEAKER_08

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And he did Assassins and Judge Red.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, that one's okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I think. We watched it.

SPEAKER_02

We watched it. Who else?

SPEAKER_08

Bruce Willis.

SPEAKER_02

Bruce Willis did.

SPEAKER_08

Wasn't alive yet.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, he was. He was. Okay. And he made uh twelve twelve monkeys. Twelve movies. Twelve monkeys.

SPEAKER_08

That one was kind of boring.

SPEAKER_02

Weird. Okay, boring. Weird and boring. Okay, sure.

SPEAKER_08

I'll go with that. I'm okay with that response.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't really like it that much.

SPEAKER_08

No. Okay. No, I didn't either. No. Sure.

SPEAKER_02

I'm just gonna agree with you. Yeah. Yeah, no, you're right. You want my opinion first.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Uh Adam Sandler made Water Boy. Billy Madison. And that's uh the that's the movie where he goes to school.

SPEAKER_08

That's a good movie.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

It's not his best, but no, no, no.

SPEAKER_08

Probably not. He might have had better movies.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like the next year he made Happy Gilmore. That's a better movie.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, it is.

SPEAKER_02

You don't remember that either.

SPEAKER_08

I do! No, I remember the movies. Yeah, okay. Okay, and Charlie Sheen was also there. He made velocity rappers. Raptors.

SPEAKER_01

Velocity. Velocity raptors.

SPEAKER_08

Falling raptors. Rappers. Rappers. Velocity rappers.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. So they fall from the sky?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay. Rappers. That was uh 94 though, so I was close.

SPEAKER_08

Why didn't you even mention that?

SPEAKER_02

I didn't. Last year.

SPEAKER_08

Why didn't you talk about this last year?

SPEAKER_01

I should have. Yeah, you should have. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Well, that was a fun moment talking about movies.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Would you like to wrap this up? Wait, no, open this up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, open this up.

SPEAKER_08

Alright, let's open this up.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

Welcome And Hunger Hippos Energy

SPEAKER_08

Hello and welcome to Roasty Toasty Ghosty. My name is Lauren.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm Matias.

SPEAKER_08

And uh this is the podcast in which I am going to be starving for the next hour or so.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, me too.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, cool. That's what we're gonna do. This is the starving podcast.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

In which we just sit here and complain about how hungry we are.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Why are we so hungry?

SPEAKER_02

Because we're hippos.

SPEAKER_08

We are definitely hippos.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, hunger, hunger hippos.

SPEAKER_08

How are you doing, Matias?

SPEAKER_02

I'm good. How are you?

SPEAKER_08

I'm great.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

I'm fine.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Stop pushing me.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, okay, I I'm back off.

SPEAKER_08

Thank you.

Jackie Chan Movie And City Misadventure

SPEAKER_08

Let me tell you what I've been up to for the past week.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, again.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Well, last Saturday we we recorded uh on Thursday.

SPEAKER_08

Um Friday. We watched a movie. We we went to the movie theaters.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And we watched Jackie Chan.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_08

The Shadow's Edge.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_08

Which, I mean, it sounds like a movie I've already seen. What are other Shadow and Edge movies by Jackie Chan?

SPEAKER_02

I mean, the The Knight of Shadows is like the first one that comes to mind. Um, but that's not Edge.

SPEAKER_08

No, but it's a Shadow.

SPEAKER_02

Uh Snake and the Eagle Shadow.

SPEAKER_08

Mm-hmm. Uh the Shaolin one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Shadowlin.

SPEAKER_02

Shadow. Shadowlin.

SPEAKER_08

Shadowlin.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay. Yeah, sure.

SPEAKER_08

What was that one?

SPEAKER_02

Shaolin Woodenmen.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Shadowy Wooden Men. Yeah. Something like that. And then there's other things. Yeah. We watched the movie and it was really good.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. It was. Jackie was in the movie.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And there was another older guy in the movie and a bunch of teenagers.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Who were uh stealing things.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they were robbing banks.

SPEAKER_08

Like Oh yeah, that too. Like money. Stealing money.

SPEAKER_02

Or like crypto.

SPEAKER_08

Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They did that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. They were like hackers and and could do those things.

SPEAKER_08

The things that they do. They and things with the Jackie. Jackie got together uh uh undercover crew and um was taking care of one specific police lady.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

So that's what happened.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's what happened. And this movie kind of reminded me a little bit of uh new police story.

SPEAKER_08

Teenagers.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Teenagers robbing banks. He has a younger uh partner that he's uh teaming up with and uh chasing the bank robbers.

SPEAKER_08

That he has a long story with.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, the partner.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yep. But he's aware of it this time.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he he is.

SPEAKER_08

Anyway, we watched this movie on Friday and then on Saturday I didn't see you. Oh yeah, wait, wait, wait, wait. Before we saw the movie, we were gonna go for a walk.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_08

We were gonna try to find a trail on the way to the city and we ended up walking towards the city.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the trail to the city.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, the bike path to the city is not the same trail that we were looking for.

SPEAKER_02

No, but we I think we pretty much figured out where we should have which turn we should have taken.

SPEAKER_08

Pretty quickly.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but then we just kept on going and we caught the next bus to the city. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

So yeah, but Sunday I worked in Stockholm for the first time, and that was interesting because it was chaotic and I had never worked in that location before.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_08

But I survived.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. How five hours. Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

How did it go finding your way in Stockholm?

SPEAKER_08

Um, not great.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

I still wandered circles and then actually getting to Stockholm was like issues.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Because that's usually the easiest part.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I know. But I went into the city to catch the train to Stockholm. I had booked a seat on this train.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

And I had been standing there waiting for like 20 minutes for the train to arrive. It arrives, and then I have to find my specific seat. I have to find the right train car to go into.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And as I'm, you know, going down the tracks trying to find the right train car, it closes its doors and leaves without me.

SPEAKER_03

Oh.

SPEAKER_08

But I had my eye on another train on another track that was leaving just a few minutes later that I think I would have rather gone with anyway.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

So I uh got myself a ticket for that and took that train instead.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_08

Which was nice.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, if it's better, then it's better.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. So I took that train into Stockholm and I did my shift, and then I found my way back to the trains, and I took pretty much the same train back, but I had a different ticket. I was just testing it out, see if it would work, and it didn't work. I had to buy another ticket on top of that. So Yeah. And it's so awkward.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

When you've got the guy like standing there, like waiting for you to buy another ticket, and I'm like, I'm so sorry. And like, I uh I didn't even know. And he's like, Oh, well, it's not me, you have to apologize to next time you're gonna get like a fine.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

It's like, okay.

SPEAKER_02

So they they keep track of that?

SPEAKER_08

I don't think so.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_08

No, that I feel like he was being nice this time, but he was like so you could tell he was bored of his job and he was bored of the BS that I'm sure that everyone gives him. Yeah. Not everyone, but a lot of people about tickets and stuff. Yeah. He wasn't enjoying his life.

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_08

He was a sad train guy. Anyway, I got home. I got home late. But that's just what happens.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

It hasn't

Sims Chaos And Home Life Bits

SPEAKER_08

been much. I got drawn back into The Sims.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_08

So that's what I've been doing for the past couple days.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And my youngest uh sick child, he's a big nerd. He also wants to play The Sims, but he calls them the Swims.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And he was able to download it onto the PlayStation.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

And he has been creating several families. They're all black families. Everyone is named Sick Child.

SPEAKER_02

From Beverly Hills Cup.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Pick a character. Any of them. They're all named Eddie Murphy.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Or something.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Um, so yeah, I I built my family and I built us a house like you do. And uh my life partner has set the stove on fire three times, even though he's the only one who likes cooking.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. He's usually good at cooking. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Well, he has to learn.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

You can like things, but you also have to learn how to do it correctly.

SPEAKER_02

Is that how he started out?

SPEAKER_08

I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe.

SPEAKER_08

I'm not sure. I don't think I've ever started a fire on the stove.

SPEAKER_02

Neither have I.

SPEAKER_08

Uh maybe the microwave. Okay. Popcorn?

SPEAKER_02

No, I've never done that either.

SPEAKER_08

Actually, I don't think it was me. I think someone else put popcorn in the microwave and it caught on fire.

SPEAKER_00

Ah, okay.

SPEAKER_08

It was in there too long. That's when you know it's done, I think. Is when the popcorn catches on fire.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Or you go like maybe a little bit more.

SPEAKER_08

Just in case.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, you never know.

SPEAKER_08

I like my popcorn, like I like my marshmallows. Uh. Completely engulfed in flames.

SPEAKER_02

Marshmallows are tricky though, because they can go down into the flames.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Into the fire.

SPEAKER_08

If it's if it's too long. Yeah. And then today's Friday. Yes. It is for once. But what have you been up to other than Toy Story, which I'll probably end up keeping?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Uh yeah, on one one day I went to see Toy Story, but on One Day.

SPEAKER_08

Like you're telling me a story.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, one day. Yeah. Toy Story 5, by the way, not the first one.

SPEAKER_08

You didn't watch all of them before you went?

SPEAKER_02

I didn't. I remembered them.

SPEAKER_08

You memorized all the movies. And then you're like, I'm gonna go watch the next one.

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

SPEAKER_08

I have all of these memorized.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And fun story. On Sunday, I finished my puzzle.

SPEAKER_08

Oh yeah. The one piece puzzle.

SPEAKER_02

A thousand pieces.

SPEAKER_08

Mm-hmm. Yeah. Well, good job.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

That's it.

SPEAKER_02

Now I just have to find a frame for it.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I need to frame it.

SPEAKER_08

And then sell it.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_08

No?

SPEAKER_02

Put it on my wall.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Wow.

SPEAKER_02

On my wall. Wally.

SPEAKER_08

Gotta put it on my Wally. Here you go, Wally. Wally.

SPEAKER_02

Weirdo.

SPEAKER_08

Um, you finished your puzzle. I did. You saw a movie.

SPEAKER_02

I did.

SPEAKER_08

Without me.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Without my knees too.

SPEAKER_08

Without your knees. Uh, you didn't want me with you.

SPEAKER_02

I I uh I'm pretty sure you didn't want to go.

SPEAKER_08

I didn't want to go.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_08

I haven't seen the last one. No. The fourth one. No. Because the third one traumatized me. Um what else have you been up to?

SPEAKER_02

Not much.

SPEAKER_08

That's it? Yeah. You did some sawing? I did saw chain sawing.

SPEAKER_02

Nose hand sawing. Hand sawing.

SPEAKER_08

You looked at your hands.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I saw my hands.

SPEAKER_03

That's not good.

SPEAKER_01

You're not supposed to do that. And apparently my niece, since they're gone. Yeah. You want to watch a movie with me.

SPEAKER_08

Okay, that's cool. Today is Friday.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

We're gonna record and then we're going to chaperone. Not chaperone. We're volunteering to uh watch movies.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Right?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Jurassic Park. Volunteering?

SPEAKER_08

That sounds like Velociraptor.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

We should show up in costumes. Oh Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_02

Goodness.

SPEAKER_08

We should show up as dinosaurs.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

I wanna be I wanna be a velociraptor.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

How fun.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, have fun.

SPEAKER_08

Have fun. Anyway.

SPEAKER_02

Like all of them have tails though. And you can't really sit that well.

SPEAKER_08

Then I'm gonna run around as a dinosaur.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

What? What's the big deal?

SPEAKER_02

What if I wanna sit?

SPEAKER_08

No. I wanna watch the movie. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

We've already seen it though.

SPEAKER_08

Would you like to movie on?

SPEAKER_02

Let's movie on.

SPEAKER_08

It's August 14th.

Birthday Plans And Fast Food Disasters

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Oh yeah, your daughter had a birthday too.

SPEAKER_08

She did. Which I was going to talk about.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

You know, when I say that I didn't really do much this week, I actually meant that my daughter had a birthday. She turned 11 on the 11th.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And we went to a trampoline park. Okay. Which was fun. She got to take a friend with her. Then we went to McDonald's only because Pizza Hut's ice cream machine wasn't working.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

You wanna know how upset I was? That everyone decided they wanted to go to McDonald's instead of Pizza Hut just because of the ice cream.

SPEAKER_02

No, uh uh yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And then we go to McDonald's, and how many people ordered ice cream? I was a bit frustrated. I also really wanted to go to Pizza Hut. Of course.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, pizza good. But also McDonald's good.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, I'm just I've been extremely disappointed with McDonald's for a long time. I'm gonna tell you something. Yeah. Okay? We went to uh McDonald's in Vesteros. Vester Rosh. Western Roses.

SPEAKER_02

Westerose.

SPEAKER_08

Wester Rose.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's the Game of Thrones place.

SPEAKER_08

A place, uh a location pretty central. Nearby the train station. Lots of people probably go through there daily.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

This place, disgusting. Oh. The second you walk in, your feet are stuck to the floor. Sticky floors. Tables not clean.

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_08

They have a tray system instead of throwing your own trash away.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

So already there's trash everywhere. And then you know how on the kiosks they have the option to have your food served to you or you go get the food yourself.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

We asked for getting served, or we selected served to the table and they start screaming out our numbers instead. Okay. Like at five guys.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And we're like expecting them to bring it to us.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And they just keep yelling out the numbers. They're not going to do that. The bathrooms in all McDonald's always.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Disgusting. Awful.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

You're lucky if you have toilet paper in there.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Huh.

SPEAKER_08

Is this not a typical experience?

SPEAKER_02

I don't know much about the bathrooms.

SPEAKER_08

You don't use bathrooms. You pee under the table.

SPEAKER_02

I I usually don't pee that much. Uh you pee every five minutes, so you should know.

SPEAKER_08

Don't make fun of me. I'm not here to be judged. No.

SPEAKER_02

But yes, I I have to say, last time I I went to McDonald's, the patties felt like eating cardboard.

SPEAKER_08

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

And uh yeah, not great. And also with the fries, I um ordered uh the cheese to dip in.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Oh, okay, okay. Cheese dip.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, cheese dip. And it tasted kind of tasted like like it was old.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, that's good. Cool. Yeah. Oldie cheese? That's a thing. Yeah. You know.

SPEAKER_02

But not the thing I wanted.

SPEAKER_08

No, okay. And then when we went to Mux, we went recently, like yesterday, maybe the day before. To Mux. We went to Mux and I ordered fries. I ordered sweet potato fries. The other people I was with, they also ordered fries. But they're so, so skinny.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

There's like nothing to them. They're just potato sticks. I wasn't really well, I mean, they are technically potato sticks.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

But there's a difference between like potato sticks, the chips, and fries.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_08

They're supposed to have like that potato inside, like mashed potato, like softer potato and not just a hollow shell of potato.

SPEAKER_02

No, okay.

SPEAKER_08

And it was just really disappointing. Okay. I want more to my fries than just a tiny little stick of potato.

SPEAKER_02

I have to say though, their uh cheese dip is way better than McDonald's.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah. I mean, I like that they have more alternatives for their food. Like, they're not just like cheeseburgers with bread and or like chicken patties that are breaded. They have the grilled chicken now that are not breaded.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

And they also have the lettuce wraps. Yeah. That makes me feel like I can still enjoy something. Yeah. And be good while eating out.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Anyway. Today's Friday. Today's Friday. It's August 14th. We watched movies.

SPEAKER_02

We did.

SPEAKER_08

What do you like to move on?

SPEAKER_02

Let's move beyond.

Two Movie Reviews And Hot Takes

SPEAKER_08

Today we watched that first movie. Yeah. With Adam Sandler. I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

That was the whole thing?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. We also watched The Terminal.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

The Terminator.

SPEAKER_04

Almost.

SPEAKER_08

Two. The second one. The Terminal Velocities. Velociraptors.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Velocitor. Velocitors. Raptors. Yep. The movie. Okay. Part two.

SPEAKER_02

Sure.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Tell me about Chuck and Larry.

SPEAKER_02

This is a movie with Adam Sandler and Kevin James and a whole bunch of other people.

SPEAKER_08

Everyone else.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And uh Rob Schneider is playing a Japanese in this one.

SPEAKER_08

David Spade was my favorite.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

He usually is. If he pops up, he's usually my favorite.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I'm thinking, I wonder if they could make the Rob Schneider character these days. Because it was almost like a little too much. Yeah. But anyways, Kevin James has financial problems with some pension fund or what is it? Anyway, he needs to m marry someone to get money or to keep some money.

SPEAKER_08

And uh so he So that someone can or his kids can benefit.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah if something would happen.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, because he's they're firefighters.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, uh yeah, exactly. And his wife died like a year ago.

SPEAKER_03

Today.

SPEAKER_02

Today.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And this movie takes place in 2007.

SPEAKER_03

Today.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, today. Okay, so uh he he's like, okay, I'm gonna marry Adam Sandler. Because uh Adam Sandler owe him a favor.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Because he saved his life.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Uh the movie is about two straight guys who gonna marry and pretend to be gay.

SPEAKER_08

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_02

That that's basically it. And they are firefighters. So what did you think about this movie?

SPEAKER_08

I did enjoy this movie more than I thought I would.

SPEAKER_02

Had you seen it before?

SPEAKER_08

No.

SPEAKER_02

No, okay.

SPEAKER_08

I don't know. I don't know what else to say.

SPEAKER_02

No. I really like this one. It's a really good movie. It's really funny and yeah, it's stupid and has a lot of heart.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. I figured it was gonna be a lot dumber than it was.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

But it was good. It was funny, and they uh really made a point to like include the lettered people, uh like the gay culture and stuff.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I don't know all the letters and no matter what you say, you're gonna forget about something. So I'm just gonna say the lettered people.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

You should know what I mean. All people, despite their sexual orientations.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, exactly. And I'm thinking, so they have to prove that they're gay, but why can't they be uh uh bi? That that should count too.

SPEAKER_08

This is 2007, yeah, exactly. That's why.

SPEAKER_02

Why? I mean uh they still had bi back then.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah. Yes, yes they did. That's all.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay. No, it's it's just so weird.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, and I feel like this is always going to be an issue.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

No matter what.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but I liked it.

SPEAKER_08

So did I.

SPEAKER_02

Good.

SPEAKER_08

Is there a second one?

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_08

No, okay. Can I tell you about the terminal?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, please do.

SPEAKER_08

This is a movie with uh Russian Tom Hanks who gets stuck in an airport forever.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

That's all.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

That's it. He's stuck in the terminal, terminal 67.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. I know how that is. Okay. Sometimes it feels like I'm also trapped in an airport for days.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So this movie is based on your life.

SPEAKER_08

Pretty much. Yeah. A true story.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. It is actually a true story.

SPEAKER_08

I believe it.

SPEAKER_02

Or based on a true story.

SPEAKER_08

On me.

SPEAKER_02

No, actually someone else. I think it was in France. My friend. In France.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, okay. In Paris. I think it was your friends.

SPEAKER_02

So it might be the future you when you go to Paris.

SPEAKER_08

Right. I've been to Paris before, but I never left the airport. No. So it was probably me.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

I never left the airport.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_08

I think I'm still there.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe.

SPEAKER_08

I left my soul in the airport.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. This is all like a hallucination.

SPEAKER_08

I think so. You ever think about that?

SPEAKER_02

Like the Matrix?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Yeah. Like what if what if what if you uh died in a terrible car accident, but your like uh soul?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Or like, you know, your just existence keeps going in some kind yeah, in some kind of weird hallucination or other dimension. Like we're really just uh stuffed animals. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

If you think about it. I mean uh this is w what is it? Multiverse thing. I mean, when I think that if if you die, that's another multiverse without you. And you all the close calls you had, those uh actually were accidents in other universes. Yeah. So it's just this one that keeps ongoing.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. And you're like never actually aware of what actually happened to you.

SPEAKER_02

No, yeah, exactly. So in I could have died several times already. Yeah, me too. And in some uh universe, I'm s really sad because you died.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And vice versa.

SPEAKER_08

Maybe.

SPEAKER_02

You might be a little a little bit like uh maybe.

SPEAKER_08

I mean it's oh well.

SPEAKER_02

Too bad. It's uh that's too bad.

SPEAKER_01

Now I have to edit myself.

SPEAKER_08

That sucks, doesn't it?

SPEAKER_01

Stupid Matias, go die on me.

SPEAKER_08

Wish you'd die again.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

No. Anyway.

SPEAKER_02

Anyway.

SPEAKER_08

Did you like the movie? What did you think?

SPEAKER_02

I do really like this movie. You've seen it. Yeah. And it's one of the few movies he made after the 80s that I actually enjoy. Because um I mean it's not funny. No, this one is funny at times. So I I do actually enjoy this one. I first time I saw it, it I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

SPEAKER_08

Was it is it 95?

SPEAKER_02

This movie. Yeah. No, 2004.

SPEAKER_08

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. What did you think of this movie?

SPEAKER_08

I enjoyed the movie because I could relate to it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I've never actually seen the movie.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

I have walked by as my life partner watched the movie a couple times. Oh. So I was familiar with the general idea of the movie. But that's it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I liked it though.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

That's all I have to say about that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I get the reference.

SPEAKER_08

Was it Tom Hanks?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Cool.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Would you like to take a break?

Break Time And Reset

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, let's take a break.

SPEAKER_08

Do you have anything else to say?

SPEAKER_02

Not before the break.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. You have more to say after the break.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe. Maybe. We'll see.

SPEAKER_08

Alright. We'll be right back.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Bye.

SPEAKER_00

Bye.

Good News Bad News Podcast Ending

SPEAKER_08

We're back.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, we are.

SPEAKER_08

Maybe we should start off the second half with some news.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Some updates in life.

SPEAKER_02

Is it good or bad news?

SPEAKER_08

Uh good news and bad news.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Which one would you like first?

SPEAKER_02

Good news.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. The good news is that I'm going back to school.

SPEAKER_02

That's cool.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Soon. And um it's gonna be chaotic for a while. And yeah, exciting things are happening.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I'm going back to work.

SPEAKER_08

That's really exciting.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I'm happy for you. Which bring brings me to the bad news. The podcast.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

It's been fun, right?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And uh we've been doing this for the past 195 weeks.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And we never really saw an end to it.

SPEAKER_04

Not really.

SPEAKER_08

But I feel like we're getting there.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I feel like the end is near.

SPEAKER_04

Oh. Yeah, yes.

SPEAKER_08

For the podcast. But it's been fun.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it has been fun. And uh we have both been like um uh talking about it, and uh we agree that maybe it's the best to end it soon.

SPEAKER_08

Around 200?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Because that feels like a good ending place.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good round number.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. So for five more episodes, we will continue and we'll have a going away party.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

After that. And so that's what we've been up to.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Is planning to kill the ghosts.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. We're letting them go to the other side.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. As fun as this is, it can be stressful. Yeah. And editing takes time, which is a terrible excuse.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

But I feel like it also puts a strain on our relationship as friends.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Because something that is supposed to be fun feels more like work chores and it's too much. So, I mean, we've had fun, but it needs to come to an end.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Before it becomes Yeah, becomes no fun.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Which I feel like it might be getting to that point.

SPEAKER_02

We we had that and yeah, it's uh it it could end up there too, you know. Yeah again.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And we don't want that.

SPEAKER_08

No.

SPEAKER_02

And also we we don't really have good numbers.

SPEAKER_08

No, we've been doing this for three years and like we don't have much of a following.

SPEAKER_02

No. So But we have one loyal, at least one loyal fan.

SPEAKER_08

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

That we're really thankful for.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Alright. Well, enough of that. Yeah. Back to the episode.

SPEAKER_02

Back to the good part.

SPEAKER_08

Back to the good part. Today

OpenEyes Tips For New School

SPEAKER_08

we are playing with open eyes again, as usual. And um, well, I am going back to school. And it's nervous.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Right? Because I'm I'm going to a new school with new people and I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Meet new friends?

SPEAKER_08

No, probably not. Maybe friends, but not besties.

SPEAKER_02

No. Good.

SPEAKER_08

I don't have enough space in my life for another person.

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_08

So I wrote to OpenEyes. I'm going back to school soon. I'd like a crash course on how to deal with my first few days in an unfamiliar situation and people. Because I'm really nervous. I don't know how nervous I am. I am nervous, but you know, ugh, whatever.

SPEAKER_02

It's just people.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. So open eyes says, being nervous makes sense. Your brain is basically looking at a room full of unknown variables and yelling, we have no map.

SPEAKER_02

That's what you should yell.

SPEAKER_08

I have no map.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

The good news is that the first few days are not a test of whether you can instantly fit in. They're mostly alright, never mind.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Word I cannot pronounce.

SPEAKER_01

Uh an English word?

SPEAKER_08

Yes, an English word.

SPEAKER_02

Ah, cool.

SPEAKER_08

They're mostly English word here. Yes. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Any word. Oh, we can fill in the blank. Yeah, we can make it a Madlib. Madlin.

SPEAKER_08

Okay, so give me a I don't know what this word is.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Um carpets.

SPEAKER_08

They're mostly carpet. Okay. Your first day mission is observe, participate, and survive. You only need to accomplish three things. Observe, participate, survive. Yeah, that's it. Okay, no. Number one is figure out the geography. Good luck.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. You need a map for that.

SPEAKER_08

I have no map. Find your classroom. Bathrooms, very important. That's the first place I got.

SPEAKER_02

You already know that.

SPEAKER_08

I already know where the bathroom is.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Cafeteria, second most important. Library, whatever. Entrances, more like exits. And whatever yours wherever you're supposed to go between classes. The exit. Find the exit. Uh getting lost once is normal.

SPEAKER_02

I thought that was part of the the list. Like getting lost. Yep. Check.

SPEAKER_08

Getting lost while pretending you know exactly where you're going is also normal. Okay. So how many times can you get lost before it's unacceptable anymore? Yeah, that's like you really should know where you're going by now. Like, no, I'm still lost. I don't know where I am.

SPEAKER_02

How if you would take a guess, how many times do you think would be acceptable?

SPEAKER_08

I would hope three. It's gonna be more than that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, okay. Yeah, eventually.

SPEAKER_08

The whole first week, I'm gonna be like, I don't know where I am.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I've seen this before, but I don't know.

SPEAKER_08

I don't remember where I'm going. Number two, learn a few names. You don't need a whole social circle. Aim for two or three names per day. Good luck with that.

SPEAKER_02

Like random names or I hope so. Just can come up with names for people.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, well, I'll probably usually do that. We usually do did that at work. You usually just give them a good nickname. Whatever's close enough.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

When someone introduces themselves, repeat their name naturally. Nice to meet you. Um trash guy, I guess. I think your name is. Trash Man. Nice to meet you, trash man. That's what I've been calling you for the past since I met you. Since I first saw you. Trash man. It helps your memory and makes the interaction warmer. Okay. Number three. Have tiny interactions.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_08

Hands.

SPEAKER_02

Have tiny hands.

SPEAKER_08

Yep. Don't aim for instant friendships. Please don't be my friend.

SPEAKER_02

No, not this fast.

SPEAKER_08

Aim for the small openings. Oh. With your tiny hands. Is this the right room?

SPEAKER_01

Wait.

SPEAKER_08

Have you had this teacher before? Do we have homework for tomorrow? Oh, these are questions you're supposed to ask other people. Oh, okay. In the classroom. So I'm gonna sit there in my seat. I'm just gonna I'm just gonna start looking at people and be like, is this the right room?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Have you had this teacher before? Do we have homework for tomorrow? We haven't even started.

SPEAKER_02

This is what you ask after talking about the map thing.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Yeah. I have no map. Mind if I sit here? I'm already sitting. Is it okay if I sit here? What did you think of that class? We haven't started yet.

SPEAKER_01

I have no map. We're outside the school.

SPEAKER_08

Where's the nearest exit?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I already know where the bathroom is.

SPEAKER_01

So don't tell me.

SPEAKER_08

I'll tell you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Why would you tell me the bathroom?

SPEAKER_08

Don't tell me where the bathroom is. Where's the exit?

SPEAKER_01

Whatever you do. Whatever you do, don't tell me where the bathroom is.

SPEAKER_08

Show me the nearest vending machine, please.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, that's a good one.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Uh these are conversational training wheels. You can take them off later. When you feel awkward.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and that's when you fall fall over.

SPEAKER_08

Oh yeah. No, the next one is when you feel awkward. Oh, okay. So these are the only lines I'm gonna use for the first week. Yeah. Okay. Is this the right room?

SPEAKER_01

You're gonna read it off the list.

SPEAKER_08

Like I have no map. Is this the right room? Have you had This teacher before. We've had this teacher all week. This is by Friday. Yeah. Do we have homework for tomorrow? Stop asking. Mind if I sit here? Uh is it okay if I sit here? I think what did you think of that class? Help.

SPEAKER_02

I think at the end of the term or t'amine, you should ask those questions.

SPEAKER_03

Do we have homework?

SPEAKER_01

Have you had this teacher before?

SPEAKER_08

Can I sit here? When you feel awkward, here's an important secret. You are dramatically more visible to yourself than you are to everyone else. If you stumble over your words, walk into the wrong room, sit somewhere weird. Can I sit here? Or spend five minutes standing around looking confused. Yeah. Just five minutes. I'm gonna be there for like twenty minutes. Like, where am I? Most people will register it for approximately three seconds. Unless I'm still standing there. They're gonna be like, where are you going? What are you doing? What are you supposed to be doing? Uh if something embarrassing happens, don't conduct a courtroom trial about it in your head. I read condom.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. Don't condom it.

SPEAKER_08

Don't condom it. Think, yes, that was awkward. Anyway, then continue. Okay, but that's not gonna happen because I'm going to repeat it in my head.

SPEAKER_02

And two people.

SPEAKER_08

And two people? What?

SPEAKER_02

And uh you're gonna repeat it to people.

SPEAKER_08

Uh yeah. I'm gonna tell you all about it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

And then it's just gonna keep going in my head, like, oh my god, why? How do I approach people when you're nervous? Look for people who are alone but not obviously trying to be alone. How do I know?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

What if they're just sitting there like, please leave me alone? Yeah. Excuse me, can I talk to you or do you want to be alone?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Are you alone or are you alone in there? Do you want to be alone?

SPEAKER_08

Can I talk to you? They're obvious.

SPEAKER_01

Why are you alone?

SPEAKER_08

Why are you alone? Where are we? Have you been here before? I don't have a map.

SPEAKER_01

Have you had this teacher?

SPEAKER_08

Can I sit here? Uh they're often the easiest people to approach. I don't know though. You don't need to walk up and announce yourself like you're opening diplomatic relations. Context does the work for you.

SPEAKER_07

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

So if you're in this situation, someone is sitting near you before class, and you say, Hey, I'm new here. Is this seat and taken? Sleet sleet taiken. Sleet tiken. That's what they'll say.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Is this sleet taiken? You're like, sleet. Okay, the next situation is you're both waiting for a teacher. Do we even have a teacher? You say, Do you know what we're supposed to bring for this class? I don't know. The next situation, someone says something funny. You. Ha ha. Laugh. Then add, okay, that was actually good.

SPEAKER_01

Or just okay.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Laugh. Okay. No, you just say laugh.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, laugh.

SPEAKER_08

Laugh. Okay, that was good.

SPEAKER_02

Or you can scream, disappointed!

SPEAKER_08

Disappointed. Do better. The trick is to give people something easy to respond to. Questions are excellent for this. The anxiety trick that actually matters. Uh don't wait until you feel confident before acting. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Confidence often arrives after you've done the scary thing several times. So your goal isn't I must stop being nervous. It is I can be nervous and still do the next tiny thing.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Whatever that means.

SPEAKER_02

Do the next tiny thing.

SPEAKER_08

I can still be nervous. That's okay. Is your heart pounding? Ask where the classroom is anyway.

SPEAKER_01

Are you still alive? Okay, you can ask anyway.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Are you feeling shy? Say hello anyway. Worried someone won't like you? They probably don't. No, sit down anyway. Uh whatever. Uh that's how your brain gradually learns. Oh, we apparently survived this. That wasn't the end. Oh that's all.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Your first week rule don't make conclusions too early.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_08

If day one feels lonely, that doesn't mean you'll be lonely. That's not always true. But whatever. You might decide day one that I'm gonna be lonely. I don't get along with anyone here.

SPEAKER_02

No, and some people assume they pick up on that. Assume that you wanna be left alone.

SPEAKER_08

So I don't get along with anyone in this class. They're not my people. I'm just gonna be alone. Whatever. If everyone seems intimidating, that doesn't mean they dislike you. What if I don't like them?

SPEAKER_02

What if you look intimidating?

SPEAKER_08

I am intimidating. I've heard.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Have I? Do people think I'm intimidating?

SPEAKER_02

No, I don't I don't think so. I haven't heard that.

SPEAKER_08

Only the people I want to intimidate find me intimidating.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Everyone else probably doesn't.

SPEAKER_02

No. I don't find you intimidating. Should I? Yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_08

I should scare you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, sure.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. Um if you don't click with anyone immediately, that doesn't mean there's something wrong with you. That's them. Yeah, it's wrong. Something wrong with them.

SPEAKER_02

So that's why what you should ask them. What's wrong with you?

SPEAKER_08

What's wrong with you? Can I even sit here?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Have you had this teacher before?

SPEAKER_08

Have you ever even been here? Why are you lost? I know where I am all the time.

SPEAKER_02

I know where the bathroom is.

SPEAKER_08

I know where the bathroom is. Not the vending machine though.

SPEAKER_02

No.

SPEAKER_08

Schools have social ecosystems that take a little time to decode. Give yourself a couple of weeks, not a couple of hours.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

And remember, plenty of other people are nervous too. Some of them are simply better at wearing the totally normal human who definitely knows what they're doing costume.

SPEAKER_02

Wearing a human.

SPEAKER_08

Yep. Some people are already wearing human skin costumes. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Cool.

SPEAKER_08

So you're not the only weirdo in the room.

SPEAKER_02

Disgusting.

SPEAKER_08

You're not disgusting. They are.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. You're the one with the human skin costume. Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I'm the only one wearing this. How embarrassing if two people skin costume is too big for me. Gross. Aw, saggy face. Disgusting. Okay. A tiny emergence reset. If you get overwhelmed during the day, stop, breathe slowly, look around, identify the next physical action. Don't worry about how am I going to sub survive this entire school year. Just where do I need to go next? Then do that one thing. You don't have to conquer, conquer the whole school in one in day one, on day one, right? You just need to walk through the next door. Then the next one. And another door. And door and door and door. Eventually this you'll walk through the right door.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, you're gonna be so lost.

SPEAKER_08

I'm walking through all of the doors. Is this my classroom? Is this my classroom? Can I sit here? Is this my teacher? Are you my teacher? Are you my classmates?

SPEAKER_01

I know where the bathroom is.

SPEAKER_08

I know where the bathroom is. Just stick my head through the door. I know where the bathroom is. Okay, bye. Um, yeah, anyway, that's all.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Any questions?

SPEAKER_02

Um, I don't have any questions.

SPEAKER_08

Okay, so how many times can I get lost before it gets ridiculous? Yeah. Is was the question. And open eyes says, honestly, a lot more than you think. On your first day, somewhere unfamiliar, one to two times is completely normal.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Three to five times, still fine. You're learning the layout. Six plus times, congratulations, you've unlocked the school's hidden maze. Getting lost every day for several weeks. That's gonna that's gonna be the case. Yeah. I'm sorry. At that point, some uh probably worth asking someone to show you the route. And here's the important bit asking for directions isn't embarrassing. Are you sure? What do you mean? You can't just arrive somewhere somewhere and pretend that you know exactly where you're going.

SPEAKER_03

Exactly.

SPEAKER_08

And whatever. People generally won't think, wow, what an idiot. They'll think, yep, new person. You don't want to be the new person.

SPEAKER_03

No.

SPEAKER_08

If you're worried about it, arrive 10 to 15 minutes early the first day and use that time to locate your classrooms. Take a photo of your timetable, and if allowed, make a quick mental map of the important places. Okay, I'm gonna talk about some poor first day behavior.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

First-Day Mistakes And How To Recover

SPEAKER_08

Which is always the fun part.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Okay. What not to do.

SPEAKER_08

What not to do on your first day of school. Here's the short version. Short version in quotations.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Right. Okay, here's a list of things not to do on your first day of school. Being rude or dismissive to teachers, staff, or classmates.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Maybe you shouldn't uh uh like uh scream, I hate school. Yeah, or brag about you know where all the bathrooms are.

SPEAKER_08

I know where the bathrooms are. Trying too hard to impress people, especially by breaking rules or making fun of others.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, yeah. The same goes for that one.

SPEAKER_08

I know where the bathrooms are.

SPEAKER_02

You don't.

SPEAKER_08

You don't know where the bathrooms are. I'm not telling you my secrets. Interrupting constantly or talking over people, ignoring instructions because you want to seem independent. I don't even need to be in this classroom. I know everything already. Uh making jokes at someone else's expense to get laughs. Oh, that's especially if you don't even know the person. It's making fun of strangers. Yeah. You're not supposed to do that. No. Getting involved in gossip or drama immediately. If there's gossip and drama that sparks the second you walk through the school, I think that says something about the other people more than you.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe. But don't get involved. I mean, if you spread it forward, maybe it's also about you.

SPEAKER_08

I mean it's gonna become about me.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Using your phone when you're supposed to be paying attention.

SPEAKER_02

Like now? No, I'm okay.

SPEAKER_08

I have to answer my emails. I have gymnastics admin stuff I have to do. It's a lot more important than being here right now.

SPEAKER_02

Talking to open eyes.

SPEAKER_08

Talking to open eyes. Help.

SPEAKER_02

How to behave.

SPEAKER_08

How to ignore the fact that I am currently peeing myself. I will never think that's not funny.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Um asking open eyes how to currently ignore the fact that I am peeing myself right now, like as I am typing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I can picture you as like a 90-year-old. Still laughing at that. Yeah, while peeing you're associated.

SPEAKER_08

It will never not be funny.

SPEAKER_01

While peeing you're depends.

SPEAKER_08

At least at that point, it's appropriate to pee myself.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I look forward to the day when it's okay to pee myself.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and laugh about it.

SPEAKER_08

And laugh about it. I pee myself.

SPEAKER_01

This takes me back.

SPEAKER_08

That one time when I asked open eyes how to ignore the fact that I am currently peeing myself. Okay, another one. Assuming people already know who you are, or expecting them to accommodate you. Do you even know who I am?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_08

You know who I am. How do you not know who I am? You haven't seen me before? You're like, it's me, the I have a super popular podcast.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

You don't know who I am?

SPEAKER_01

It's me, Laura. You know?

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Refusing to okay, it says ask for help, but I was gonna read eat.

SPEAKER_02

Eat help.

SPEAKER_08

Refusing to eat.

SPEAKER_02

Eat for help.

SPEAKER_08

For help. Because you're afraid of looking new. Only the new kids eat around here.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Judging everyone too quickly. Whoops.

SPEAKER_01

That's gonna be uh the biggest problem for you.

SPEAKER_08

Maybe out loud, I should add to that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

I'm sure judging internally. That's a natural response to for everyone.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Someone being quiet, awkward, loud, or unfriendly on day one tells you very little about them. Except for the fact that they are quiet, awkward, loud, or unfriendly. Is what I'm assuming.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. At the same time.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

I'm quiet, loud, and friendly.

SPEAKER_08

I am in a nutshell. Yeah. I am quiet, awkward, loud, and unfriendly. Don't talk to me. Okay. Um, panicking over small mistakes and then letting the embarrassment control the rest of your day. Hello. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

No more comments.

SPEAKER_08

I have nothing else to say about that. No. Um, okay, one particularly sneaky one. Trying to act like you're not nervous when you actually are.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Sure. Wait, uh you're not supposed to Don't pretend you're not nervous.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Everyone's nervous.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

You don't need to perform confidence. This is an acting school. It's film school. Being polite, curious, and reasonably relaxed is plenty. What should I do if I behave badly on the first day? Let's see what happens. Yeah. That's all I have. What should I do if I happen to have bad behavior?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. It just happens.

SPEAKER_08

Whoops. I uh don't go back. I think. If you happen to behave badly on the first day, don't turn one bad moment into a bad week.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. So you shouldn't double down on it?

SPEAKER_08

No. I'm not a quitter. I'm gonna hold on to this role the whole time. Quiet, awkward, loud, and unfriendly. Number one, stop.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Don't keep digging the hole because you're embarrassed. Two, own it quickly. A simple sorry, that wasn't okay. Is usually much better than a high five. Five-minute explanation.

SPEAKER_02

Like, that didn't happen.

SPEAKER_08

That didn't happen. It wasn't me.

SPEAKER_02

No, that was someone else.

SPEAKER_08

It was definitely that guy.

SPEAKER_01

My twin sister.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. She also goes to this school.

SPEAKER_01

She quit now though.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, she went home. I'm better behaved than she is. Then everyone's gonna call you a schizo. It wasn't me. Okay, number three. Fix what you can. If you interrupted someone, let them finish. But I already interrupted them.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

So what's the point?

SPEAKER_02

I have to finish first.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Let me finish.

SPEAKER_02

Don't interrupt me. Yeah, you can talk later.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. If you were rude, apologize. If you broke a rule, follow it from that point onward. What if I forgot that I broke the rule?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Or that the rule existed to begin with.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, someone needs to remind you.

SPEAKER_08

Please remind me. What are the rules? Don't obsess over it. Number four.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Uh your brain may replay the incident in glorious 4K while everyone else has already moved on. I doubt it. I don't think they've moved on. Everyone else is repeating it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

As well.

SPEAKER_01

You've been to school before.

SPEAKER_08

I've done this before. I know what's going on. Number five, don't try to compensate by becoming unnaturally perfect. You don't need to spend the rest of the day acting like a Victorian diplomat. What is that?

SPEAKER_02

I thought you were gonna say victim.

SPEAKER_08

A victim. Just behave normally and respectfully. If you seriously crossed a line.

SPEAKER_07

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

If you hurt, threatened, bullied, humiliated, or deliberately damaged something, take it seriously. What if I did all the above?

SPEAKER_02

That that's when you're gonna play the victim.

SPEAKER_08

They attacked me. It wasn't my fault. Apologize where appropriate. And tell a teacher or another responsible adult that is more adult than you are. What happened? Don't try to hide it or pressure the other person to forgive you. And if you're nervous enough that you're worried you might behave badly because you panic, remember this. You are allowed to pause.

SPEAKER_02

You're loud.

SPEAKER_08

You're loud. And you need to pause.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

You're being unfriendly. You can say, sorry, I'm a bit nervous. Give me a second. I'm still nervous. Hold on.

SPEAKER_02

You could say a lot of things if you think about it.

SPEAKER_08

I could say whatever I wanted. Really. I could say I'm Johnny Depp if you wanted me to. I just did.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And I'm Robert Downey Jr.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Cool.

SPEAKER_08

I think I am at least.

SPEAKER_02

I didn't know we met.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Is this a movie?

SPEAKER_08

I think so.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Hello and welcome back. I am still Johnny Depp.

SPEAKER_02

And I'm RTJ.

SPEAKER_08

Cool. Alright. Well, I think that's pretty much all I had. Hopefully I can have good behavior on my first day of school and not get too lost.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so are you more nervous now that you will actually be bad?

SPEAKER_08

I might slip up.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, exactly. You you think about what not to do and do that. Yep. Just because you think about what not to do.

SPEAKER_08

Exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Alright. As we

Cards Against Humanity And Closing

SPEAKER_08

reach the end of this episode, do you have something that's ruining your life? I don't know where the cards went. Oh, they're right behind your head. Alright. Let's have cards against humanity tell us what is ruining our lives.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Pick a card, any card.

SPEAKER_02

I'm gonna pick this one.

SPEAKER_08

Okay. What's ruining your life?

SPEAKER_02

Chainsaws for hands.

SPEAKER_08

That is a problem, isn't it? I saw my hands, so I Oh yeah, you sawed them off.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

You sewed them off? You sewed them. I sewed them off. I unsewed my hands.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So yeah, I uh put chainsaws on there instead.

SPEAKER_08

Oh okay.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. But uh that's ruining my life.

SPEAKER_08

Okay, okay.

SPEAKER_02

I ruin a lot of things.

SPEAKER_08

I guess so. You're not Edward Scissor Hands, you're Matthias Chainsaw Hands.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

You're Johnny Depp, so.

SPEAKER_08

I'm Johnny Depp.

SPEAKER_02

Our DJ is chainsaw hands instead.

SPEAKER_08

Yeah, yeah. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. What's ruining your life?

SPEAKER_08

Pretending to care.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that makes sense.

SPEAKER_08

That'll do it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

It's difficult. Um, are you all out of sips?

SPEAKER_02

I'm all out of sips, and that means we're all out of episode.

SPEAKER_08

Alright, well, so am I.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_08

Cool. I'm also out of episodes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

And sips. Would you like to wrap this up?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Sounds like a good idea.

SPEAKER_08

Cool. Thank you for listening to this episode. Feel free to uh follow us for the next five episodes that we make because that's cool if you like to do things like that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_08

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And uh also people can uh tell us what they think about us.

SPEAKER_08

Please don't.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Yeah, do you tell me what you think? What do you think about us quitting this show?

SPEAKER_08

I'm a quitter.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. We're quitters.

SPEAKER_08

I'm a quitter. I'm a quitter. I'm also a quitter. I don't know the rest of the song. I'm a quitter. I'm a quitter. Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. So, anyways.

SPEAKER_08

Send us a text. What's ruining your life and uh other than us quitting. Have a good life.
