Cold Open And Chaos Energy
SPEAKER_04Here's the fun intro, cracker tenure. Here we go. No one knows what we'll even know. Started with the movie plot. Now it's time where we are not ideas and late night. And overall, y'all, that's nice to be a little bit more than a little bit.
SPEAKER_02Here we are. Better late than never is something that a teacher once said very often, every time I came late to class.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Once. Said every time.
SPEAKER_02He only had to say it once every time. He didn't repeat himself. No. Because that would be dumb and annoying to uh repetitively say to me, better late than never. Better late than never. You could have been here earlier, but you know what? You're better late than never. It's like, okay, I get it.
SPEAKER_08In case you forgot. Better late than never.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And then he started writing it on the board. It only happened a few times. It wasn't like a daily thing.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Just once a day.
SPEAKER_02Depending on the day.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Could have been several. I don't know. I don't think I was actually that bad.
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02It's a fun story, but it it never happened.
SPEAKER_08I don't recall ever actually being there.
SPEAKER_02I have an episode for you today. Okay. Okay. And we're gonna have a lot of fun. So would you like to open this up?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, let's open this.
SPEAKER_02Are we good? Can we start this? Do you wanna open up the uplop? You wanna upload?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, let's upload up.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Chairs.
SPEAKER_08Chairs. It's been so long since we I know.
SPEAKER_02I like almost started missing you.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's been that long.
SPEAKER_08Well, you you kinda jumped me. Well, calm down. It wasn't it was a it's a it was a big hug. You crushed my uh my rib cage. Good. Yeah. So and and spine.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Poor thing. I thought you were being a little dramatic when you got a wheelchair. Come in in a wheelchair instead.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I have no spine. Okay. Okay. Please continue.
SPEAKER_08My turn. I don't know. I think it might be.
SPEAKER_02You want me to do it or do you want to do it? I can do it.
Welcome To Roasty Toasty Ghostie
SPEAKER_02Cool. Do it then.
SPEAKER_08Hello and welcome to Roasty Toasty Ghostie. My name is Matthias.
SPEAKER_02I'm Lauren.
SPEAKER_08And we're gonna be your besties for an hour or so. And this is the podcast where you probably will learn nothing at all.
SPEAKER_00If you don't want to.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You don't have to learn anything if you don't want to.
SPEAKER_08No, you can just forget it. Maybe write some uh notes. Notes and just forget about it afterwards. That's our tips.
SPEAKER_02There's definitely giggling in the background.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, sorry about that.
SPEAKER_02Stop giggling in the background. Yeah. Alright, so Matthias.
SPEAKER_08Lauren.
SPEAKER_02Did you have something to say?
SPEAKER_08How are you? Cool. You're cool. I'm so cool.
SPEAKER_02I'm good.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02I'm good. And how are you?
SPEAKER_08I'm also good.
SPEAKER_02We are switching things up quite a lot, like all the time, it feels like.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because we did watch movies, right?
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Not together.
SPEAKER_08Not together.
SPEAKER_02No. So that's like the first time in a long time.
SPEAKER_08Well, other than like for when you go to the Well, we're in the same country, I think.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
Concert Recap In A Mountain
SPEAKER_02So last week we went to a concert together on Sunday. And that was a lot of fun.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We saw Miss Lee.
SPEAKER_07What did?
SPEAKER_02A Swedish singer. Lady singer. And it was really good. It was. She put on a really good show.
SPEAKER_08Yes.
SPEAKER_02And I was really happy.
SPEAKER_08Me too.
SPEAKER_02And then we left early.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Well Wow, this is great.
SPEAKER_02Okay, bye.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Had enough.
SPEAKER_02That's enough. Too much greatness, I might explode.
SPEAKER_08Well, it was kind of a long way to get up the hill, so we still heard her.
SPEAKER_02Oh, and the have to talk about the venue too. Oh my god, what a cool place. Oh yeah. It was like in this what cave or something?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I think it's water? Like a mining uh it's been they've been mining.
SPEAKER_02They exploded the ground there with dynamites and said we are going to host concerts here.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Because how cool is that?
SPEAKER_08So in the middle of like a mountain.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And it's also like a lake in there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And the water was like so blue. Yeah. So cool.
SPEAKER_08It was really beautiful.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And the way they sprayed the fountain. Fountain?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's really cool. The whole thing was really cool.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then it got chilly. But hey. I wasn't dressed appropriately.
SPEAKER_08It wasn't raining at least. No. That was that was uh very I I thought it would it kept looking like it was gonna start raining.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then it stopped looking like it was gonna rain. And then it rained anyway.
SPEAKER_08W then we got like five drops of rain.
SPEAKER_02And that was it.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It was really cool. The whole thing. Really cool. We got a parking spot, which is good. I was that was like the main concern. That was why we got there so early. Yeah. It's because I was so concerned that all of the parking spots were gonna be taken up. Because on the air on the website it said we have limited parking, so maybe get here early so that you actually get a spot. I'm thinking there's like 10 spots. There's no way I'm gonna get a spot. No, but there was plenty of parking, actually.
SPEAKER_08I uh feel like uh parking went really well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then we waited like four hours.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, but still, and getting out of there since we left earlier, yeah.
SPEAKER_02It went really well.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, we got there earlier and left earlier.
SPEAKER_02So we still heard the last song, I think. We just missed the ending excitement.
SPEAKER_08I mean, it wasn't like the most popular songs, maybe. I think that's what she says. She said said she shares. I think that's what she said.
SPEAKER_02She is that what she said?
SPEAKER_08Cheese head.
SPEAKER_02Cheese head. You're a cheese head. I think that's cheese said. Cheese head. Cheese said. But cheese said.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02She is not cheese.
SPEAKER_07No.
SPEAKER_02She was a human. Singing cheese ball.
SPEAKER_08It was great.
Opening Act Thoughts And Laughs
SPEAKER_02What did you think about the opening act?
SPEAKER_08The guy singing.
SPEAKER_02The guy singing.
SPEAKER_08It was good. I I liked the guy. It was really humble and shy.
SPEAKER_02It was kind of cute how shy he was.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. It's like, oh, and uh, here's the next one. Yeah, and I really felt for him. And uh I yeah, I I liked him.
SPEAKER_02But uh I I think that it would have been cool if he had more variation in songs because all of his songs were like sad. Like we have a set list of like five to ten songs, they're all sad. Here we go.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But they were pretty good. Yeah. Even for being sad songs. It would have been nice with something a little bit more upbeat, but it was fine.
SPEAKER_08I think I might have recognized like the last song, but I'm not sure. Wasn't it a cover? Yeah, I that was a cover, right? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So that's probably why. Yeah. And he sang to the king, and it's like, I've never heard of you before. How are you getting to the king?
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Yeah, sure, whatever.
SPEAKER_08But I mean I'm connections do you have?
SPEAKER_02I don't get it.
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02I haven't sung to the king. No. Just so you know.
SPEAKER_08Did he close his eyes?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because he was picturing himself singing at home in his room.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Whatever he said. But uh did it do that with the king too? Probably. He's like, Hello King.
SPEAKER_02Hello, King. I'm practicing in the mirror. Yeah. Hello, King. How are you doing? I'm gonna sing five to ten songs. They're all sad. Here we go.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. Yeah. So I'm I'm I mean, I think I like the guy better than his songs. Okay.
SPEAKER_02You liked him more than Miss Lee.
SPEAKER_08No, no, no. But but he also sang with Miss Lee. And I like that. It was it was nice when he got on the stage and sang with her. That's pretty cool. Yeah. And I was like, oh, good for him.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So Hugo. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Hugo Hugo guy.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I don't even remember what he was called. Was it E? E.
SPEAKER_02E. My name is E. Yeah. My name is but people call me E. Yeah. Because it's shorter. Okay. All right. Well, we did that and it was a lot of fun and it went really well.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. And it got late, but um That's okay.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I made it home. That's all.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I got home.
SPEAKER_08We got up early the day after.
SPEAKER_02Yep. I went to school.
SPEAKER_08I went to work.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And I only had to go up early one day this week.
SPEAKER_02And then you worked night shift for the rest of the week.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's pretty cool for you.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So now I can be with our friends as well. Yeah. I mean, they're your friends too.
SPEAKER_02They're my friends too. They just don't talk to me. But hey, no grudges. We're all busy adults ignoring each other and stuff.
SPEAKER_08You're all moms.
SPEAKER_02We're all moms. We all ignore each other. We just say that we know each other. But hey. Anyway.
School Work And Friend Updates
SPEAKER_08Anyway.
SPEAKER_02I started school.
SPEAKER_08You started school.
SPEAKER_02As a production leader for film and TV.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. And it That's what you're studying.
SPEAKER_02That is what I'm studying for. And I only have good things. All good things. I really like my teacher.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I really like my classmates. They are all really fun uh individuals. And I've talked to most of them at least. The majority of them. There's a couple who I still haven't really talked to at all. But uh there's 20 people. So you know, and we had a fully packed week of information and stuff. And then on Friday after school, I went out with some of them to have a drink or two or three. And yeah, we had fun. We ended up roaming over to Mux, which was less exciting because they were so stressed there. Okay. That like, you know, I I usually get a salad wrap with like the chicken and stuff. And when I got it, it looked like they just threw everything in the box and handed it over. They didn't like put the burger together or anything.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_02They just threw everything in the box and was like, here you go. Yeah. And so I had to eat it like that. And it was a little but that's just one time.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We're just gonna keep talking about our fast food uh preferences, I guess.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, that's that's basically what I've done this week. I've had uh a lot of fun and next week we'll be a bit calmer. I only have three days next week. So we'll see what happens. Or technically I have two days because I'm skipping Friday to go to Paris.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, okay. That was my week. How was your week? Did you have a good week?
SPEAKER_08Uh I mean sure. I was working. Then yesterday I went to a zoo.
SPEAKER_07Zoo!
SPEAKER_08Like um amusement park slash zoo.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Um, yeah, and that was fun. I I saw some animals. I uh went on a few rides and yeah.
SPEAKER_02I really need to go sometime. It sounds like a lot of fun. I've had my eye on that place for a really long time now.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Maybe it's about time to just pay the fee and go.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Just close my eyes and be like, yes, Pay.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Let's go. Yeah. Yeah. And now we're here. Yeah. Did you have something else?
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02We're here? Yes. And it's Sunday, right? Yeah. It's August 23rd, and we did watch movies, but not
Movie Night Apart Together
SPEAKER_02today. Not together. But I watched my movies on a train, several trains.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_02And then I ended my movies in bed, but I did watch them.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I watched all of them.
SPEAKER_08It took a train to bed.
SPEAKER_02I took the train to bed with me. It was very tight in the bedroom having an entire train in there.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02My life partner was not thrilled.
SPEAKER_07No.
SPEAKER_02But I wanted to take it home with me. Yeah. It's a train. I mean, come on.
SPEAKER_08You started watching movies on a train. You wanna continue that? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08In the bedroom.
SPEAKER_02So I'm taking the train to bed with me. Anyway, uh, would you like to move on?
SPEAKER_08Let's move on.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I'm gonna start off by saying that I am really sad.
SPEAKER_08Me too.
SPEAKER_02That I didn't see these movies with you. I'm really sorry that's what how it ended up being.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We did know that the future was unstable. Yeah. And this was unfortunately a part of that.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I'm sorry. That's just how it ended up being.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I literally had no other choice. Okay. Because I there was You were working evenings, I'm going to school in the daytime. It doesn't work out that way. I don't think we could have found a chance to watch these movies together.
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_02We watched Grown-Ups and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. And both of these movies I really wanted to watch with you.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, maybe.
SPEAKER_02Life happened.
SPEAKER_08Maybe maybe it can happen another time. Another time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Maybe. But we still we have a whole list of other movies that we want to see together another time.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, but yes.
SPEAKER_08Uh and Yeah, that's kind of what the movie nights is all about, really, like us watching movies together. Together. Because I mean I already seen like most of the movies we have on the list.
SPEAKER_02So But at the moment we watch the movies to talk about it later. And now is the later.
SPEAKER_08In in a way we watch them together, but separately.
SPEAKER_02Uh so tell me about grown-ups in the best possible way.
Grown Ups Review And Favorite Bits
SPEAKER_08Okay. Grown-ups is about five guys. No, it's not. Yes. No, it's not. They're making hamburgers, they're screaming.
SPEAKER_02They only make bacon. They didn't make burgers.
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02Do make bacon. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Five guys. With moths in them? I'm not telling you any secrets. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Anyway.
SPEAKER_08Okay, it's about five boys.
SPEAKER_02Men. They're not boys. They're not children. They are children, but they are grown-ups.
SPEAKER_08They are boys in the beginning.
SPEAKER_02Technically.
SPEAKER_08Yes. Because that's how we start the movie with them as boys playing basketball. And uh then later we see them as grown-ups, and their old coach dies. And they uh find out that he dies and they're going to his funeral. Uh all the five guys. Maybe I should tell you who these five guys are.
SPEAKER_00Maybe. Yeah. If you want to.
SPEAKER_08It's Adam Sandler, it's Kemi. Kevin Kevin James.
SPEAKER_00Kimmy James.
SPEAKER_08Kevin James. Chris Rock. David Spade, and of course Rob Schneider.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Poor guy. Adam Sandler treats him like garbage. Yeah, they all do. In all of the movies.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. In this one, they all do. He's like the butt of the joke.
SPEAKER_02He's always the weirdo in the movie. It's like, oh, I have a weirdo part. Here you go. It's like, ugh, okay.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, you don't it they don't have to tell him which part he plays because uh if he just reads the script, he'd like um that's me. That's the weird character. That's okay. Yeah. Nice.
SPEAKER_05Nice.
SPEAKER_02Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. And uh yeah, uh they go to the funeral and then they spread some ashes, and then uh uh yeah, they spend uh a weekend together. Yeah. And um it ends up with them playing basketball uh again. Yeah, again against the um rival gang from their youth. Yeah, that's that's it. That's what the movie is about, I think.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Um so what did you think about this movie?
SPEAKER_02This is my favorite. My favorite Adam Sandler movie ever. Ever. Okay. Ever. I love this movie so much. Yeah. It's it's stupid, but it is so funny. And with all the people and I don't know, I just I've always liked this movie a lot.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I mean it's great. It's like the it feels like uh, you know, uh uh all these guys were so uh tight, like in the SNL and everything. I mean the Kevin James part was uh originally supposed to be Chris Farley, because I think uh Adam Sandler had this idea since the nineties.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_08Chris Farley was supposed to be Kevin James character. But I think Kevin James is a good subst substitute to Yeah, he's also really good. Yeah, but to think about like uh Chris Farley doing that if only that's really too bad.
SPEAKER_02But it came out well and I really like it. I mean, there's some really cringy parts, but yeah Steve Buscemi is also there.
SPEAKER_08I was thinking he's he's so funny. Yeah, he's so stupid, he's so it is he he does this crazy stunt like uh his character breaks his whole body, yeah. And uh it's uh it's like uh why why should I go? You don't have kids. Yeah, no, you're right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, okay, that sounds about right. Oh my god, it's so funny. I love the whole movie, it's so good.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I mean the the weirdest part, I mean i it's it's funny, but like on the when Kevin James uh is supposed to go on the water skis, and I'm like, that that's so it's so stupid.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_08It's like and it like didn't go. Okay, okay, so he's too heavy.
SPEAKER_02Yep. He's too heavy for the water ski to go anywhere.
SPEAKER_08How does that work really?
SPEAKER_02But it it's a good one though. Yeah, it's funny. I love this movie. Yeah. What did you think about the movie?
SPEAKER_08Uh I also think it's a really funny movie. It's m not my favorite, but uh it's it's a really funny one. I mean, uh in a way it's it it kind of feels like uh it's just Adam Sandler having fun with his friends.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And that's exactly yeah, and and then with their families too, or quote unquote families.
SPEAKER_08Exactly. And I I feel like a lot of the or a few scenes you can see them breaking character.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Like the scene where um Rob Schneider's tope the first time, and uh the the laugh Adam uh does that's such a breaking character laugh.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, oh it's good.
SPEAKER_08I love those scenes because uh you can really tell it's it's not scripted that laugh.
SPEAKER_02That's it's good.
SPEAKER_08It's it's really good. So yeah. Do you have anything else you wanna talk about?
SPEAKER_02Oh about this movie. I'm sure I do.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But for time I think we need to continue with the next one.
SPEAKER_08Okay. So you tell me about a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
A Beautiful Day Review And Wishes
SPEAKER_02Okay, this is a movie with Tom Hanks playing Fred Rogers.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And it is actually about a journalist who is going through his own struggles, but is put on a case to uh write an article about Fred Rogers. And Fred Rogers ended ends up kind of helping the journalist navigate through his own problems, which is not what I expected. No. I haven't seen this movie.
SPEAKER_08I haven't either.
SPEAKER_02But it is one that well, yeah, yeah. Now we've seen it. But it was one that had caught my attention and I'd always thought, you know, oh, that could be fun to watch. Because I mean, Fred Rogers is someone that a lot of people grew up with.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And he's affected a lot of people. I never actually watched the show. Okay.
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02I was always familiar with the show.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I I was uh gonna ask you because I I never uh watched it. I mean I I've been in Sweden Right.
SPEAKER_02I've always been familiar with it. Um my mom watched the show.
SPEAKER_08It went on for a long time. A long time. Like 68 to 2001.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Yeah, crazy.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But um there is a spin-off, uh, an animated spin-off on Daniel Tiger. Okay, which all the kids nowadays know of, and it's heavily based off of Mr. Rogers. And uh but it's all about the puppets instead. You have all the characters from the puppets part, and it takes a it's a new twist on Mr. Rogers and talking about feelings and difficult parts of life.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And a lot of those uh heavy discussions are put in song form that are extremely catchy.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So my youngest sorry, he was my youngest at the time. My oldest. My oldest used to watch this show all the time. And uh it it is really helpful in a way to navigate through heavy topics, yeah. So those songs are so catchy. I only had a problem with one of the songs, okay, which uh they kept singing grown-ups come back. I was like, not always. Um, grown-ups don't always come back. Well, it was more for like separation anxiety for kids, like when you drop them off at daycare and they start getting really sad because mom is leaving, and you just tell them, Oh, well, grown-ups come back. Mom's gonna come back, she's gonna come back later. Yeah, you just have to hang out here for a while. But me having a parent die early in life was like, grown-ups don't always come back.
SPEAKER_07No.
SPEAKER_02But I'm not gonna tell you guys how to run your show. Anyway.
SPEAKER_08Well, it's like you said now, that wasn't the point of the song.
SPEAKER_02No, it wasn't. No, but that was just my reaction to the song.
SPEAKER_08I mean, of course. Yeah, that's w that's what I first thought about too. And also parents actually leaving kids.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Never coming back. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Even when they're alive.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I mean, yeah, exactly. Yeah, well, I mean, that's that's really beside the point, I think.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, this movie that we watched.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's what it was. What did you think about it?
SPEAKER_08I I mean, I liked it, but I kind of wanted more of Mr. Rogers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I I the other guy was I mean, it's sure he had grumpy. Yeah, it was a grumpy grump.
SPEAKER_02And whatever I saw a ship movie.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, whenever I saw Mr. Rogers, I was like, I wanna be him.
SPEAKER_02You wanna be Mr. Rogers. When I grow up, I want to be Mr. Rogers.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I he it was so positive and everything, and so nice, and I I just wish I could be like him.
SPEAKER_02And like I always I I kept wanting the worst part of him to come out. I mean, like, I've heard all sorts of stories about him being in the military and stuff, and like I wanted more information about that. I was hoping that they would get more into like the darker sides of Mr. Rogers. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08But we never really got it. We only got one side of him.
SPEAKER_02We got the part where like he admitted I haven't always been a good father, but I take things like one day at a time.
SPEAKER_08But there he was only good. Yeah. He he never did anything wrong.
SPEAKER_02No, he only admitted that he's not perfect. And everyone kept saying he's not perfect. Okay, well, if he's not perfect, prove it.
SPEAKER_08Show it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Please, I want to see that you're not perfect. So then maybe we can all see you as a human too.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah, exactly. And uh maybe like he when he uh, you know, changed himself to be better against uh because uh I love the way he was like uh he could just interrupt the take just to uh welcome someone.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. That was but I I definitely felt for that AD there. He was like, come on, again, we've got time, let's go. I I felt bad for her.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, sure, but still it was such a nice thing to do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And um and the tenth scene, it was like, what wait, what? Yeah, he's just wrestling.
SPEAKER_02It's like whose idea was this that we're gonna watch Mr. Rogers struggle.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and then it doesn't then it just gives up and like, yep, this that's good.
SPEAKER_02This is for two people. This is a two people job.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then he's like, Yeah, no, that that looks good. Yeah, everyone needs to see that sometimes we struggle. Like, yeah, I I guess.
SPEAKER_08I I feel like you didn't try that much. You could have like tried It looked like he was trying to take it down. Yeah, he was wrestling it. I mean what try maybe some other way. No. No.
SPEAKER_02Let's try to break all the sticks. I thought he was trying to put up the tent, it was already up.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't get what he was really trying to do there. He said we're gonna put the tent up, but he looked like he was trying to take it down because it was already up.
SPEAKER_08Couldn't do any of them.
SPEAKER_02No. Whatever. Yeah. Oh well.
SPEAKER_08Uh so what did you think about this movie?
SPEAKER_02Did you otherwise I did enjoy the movie? Yeah. I am glad that I got to watch it.
SPEAKER_08It was a good movie, but I I was slightly disappointed that it was too much on this journalist guy.
SPEAKER_02I would leave this movie be, but I would appreciate another movie that's more of a biopic for Mr. Rogers and how he grew up and how he became the person he ended up being. Yeah. I also noticed that he talks a lot like my grandmother. But that's completely different. Well, I mean, it was like a lot of the the accent and like how slowly he spoke and how he spoke. It just reminded me a lot like my grandmother.
SPEAKER_08Anyway. I I read uh some trivia that Tom Hanks had to do some uh meditation to calm his speech down.
SPEAKER_02He sounded a little like uh Forrest Gump too, yeah in some lines.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and then uh it was like after the takes he he he would like speed up his voice to normal. Yeah, because he doesn't talk like that.
SPEAKER_02No, of course not. Who does?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, those were the movies.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Anything else you want to throw in there?
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02Alright. Would you like
Break And Back Again
SPEAKER_02to take a break?
SPEAKER_08Yep.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna get my phone from the forest.
SPEAKER_08Oh, I still down there somewhere. Uh would say from the forest.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna go to the forest and find my phone. I think I dropped it. We're gonna take a break. We will be right back. A long break. We're back.
SPEAKER_08We are back.
SPEAKER_02Hello. Well, welcome back. It was a big oh. Anyway.
SPEAKER_08That's a big hi.
SPEAKER_02Hello. Oh my I'm not sure what's going on.
SPEAKER_08I don't know, but it was funny.
SPEAKER_02So please come back to the question that you had just now.
SPEAKER_08Oh, okay.
Handling Sadness Without Avoiding It
SPEAKER_08What was the response to our news last week?
SPEAKER_02Okay, so I did get a text from our fan. Yes. Hello, fan.
SPEAKER_08Hello fan.
SPEAKER_02She said, sad. Okay. So she's sad. Okay. That's all she said. Sad.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Maybe it wasn't about that. Maybe it was about something else.
SPEAKER_02She's just sad. She didn't want to elaborate on what she's sad about. She is just sad. So today we're gonna talk about sadness.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, maybe she's sad because uh we're still doing a few episodes and she just wants it to be a little bit more.
SPEAKER_02Okay, yes. So last week we came out with the news that we are ending the podcast. We're gonna continue a few more episodes and then we're gonna cut it off around 200. This is 196.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And her response was sad. So today I am going to ask Open Eyes, aka Chat GPT. Gibbita. Gibbita. We are going to do a crash course on how to deal with sadness.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_02Have you ever been sad before?
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_08Yes, I have.
SPEAKER_02Okay. How do you deal with your sadness? Because you don't cry. And I know we've talked about this before, but let's let's just summarize what you have already told me about how you deal with your sadness because you don't cry.
SPEAKER_08I don't cry. I I just bottle it up and uh I I can get kind of grumpy actually.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Your sadness turns into a grump man.
SPEAKER_08Grump, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm the grump man. Yeah. Anyway.
SPEAKER_08But yeah, uh, I'm hurting on the inside. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Is that every time you're grumpy, you're dealing with sadness, you think?
SPEAKER_08No, not that.
SPEAKER_02So next time you're grumpy, I should just be like, Will you just cry already? Sad. Aww. Oh, you would hate me. Oh, you're grumpy. What's wrong? Shut up. Okay, so this is how you're supposed to deal with your sadness. Okay. Okay. I don't know if we've talked about this before, but we're gonna do it again. This is open eyes point of view. How to deal with sadness. Number one, don't immediately try to eliminate it.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_02Sit in it for a while. Sit in your sad puddle of tears.
SPEAKER_08But I don't cry, so.
SPEAKER_02No, your sad puddle of grump. Grump puddle. Sit in your grump puddle.
SPEAKER_08Grumpy puddle.
SPEAKER_02Grumpy puddle. Uh sadness is an emotion, not a malfunction. Oh. You're not malfunctioning, you robot man.
SPEAKER_08I thought you would say not a mountain.
SPEAKER_02It's not a mountain. It's an emotion. Give yourself a little room to feel it without turning it into a courtroom trial about why you shouldn't feel this way. Number two.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_02Name what's actually happening. Try I'm sad because. Why are you sad?
SPEAKER_08Who who are you talking to?
SPEAKER_02Yourself. You're journaling.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02This is a journaling session. You write down in your journal, I'm sad because. And then fill in the blank.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02Why are you sad? What I'm really missing is blah blah blah. What are you missing? Why are you sad?
SPEAKER_08Are you supposed to say blah blah blah?
SPEAKER_02Blah blah blah. No, we're talking about ending the podcast and why we are sad about it. So you are sad because we're ending the podcast. Okay. What I'm really missing. Right? Yes, we're playing Mad Libs now. Okay. Finish my sentence. What I'm really missing is Pudding. Putting. Okay. I feel like we'll get back to that later. This is another problem.
SPEAKER_08That's one way of handling your sadness, I guess.
SPEAKER_02Eating. Okay. What I wish were different is my hairstyle. None of this is relevant. But this is your journal. So you know what? You are allowed to write whatever you want. Okay, so putting language around the feeling often makes it less foggy. Foggy was what I said. Froggy. Froggy ribbit. Number three, don't isolate completely. You don't need to deliver a dramatic emotional monologue like I typically would. But hey, you know. Text someone.
SPEAKER_07Oh no.
SPEAKER_02That emotional, dramatic, emotional monologue. Sit with a friend. No. No? No. Okay. Take a walk around other humans.
SPEAKER_08I mean, sure. Talk to someone. That that might be a good. Don't text.
SPEAKER_02Don't text someone. No. Your emotional monologue.
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02I'm supposed to memorize it and then tell you next time I see you. But if I see you next week and I'm going through this monologue in my head, it's not gonna have the same delivery.
SPEAKER_08No. You need to update.
SPEAKER_02Because probably at that point I don't really care anymore. And at that point, if I haven't spoken to you in a week after being upset with you, I probably have already decided I don't care. I don't want to talk to you anymore. Anyway. Whatever. This is about the podcast, not our personal problems. No. So I'm not going to sit here and deliver a dramatic emotional monologue about how sad I am about ending a podcast. Okay. Number four, do the boring physical stuff. These things are what?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I mean that's what you have to say. That sounds good. But that's it. Yeah. That's what we're gonna That's what I interrupted you for.
SPEAKER_02Interrupt me just to say, yes, that's good. Shut up.
SPEAKER_08Be quiet. That sounds good.
SPEAKER_02Alright.
SPEAKER_08Okay, continue.
SPEAKER_02These things are annoyingly effective. Eat something like your pudding, I guess, if you have to. Drink some water.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, change your hair.
SPEAKER_02It's not gonna kill you. Shower. I need that desperately right now. I'm probably not gonna shower today though. I'm just gonna spend the rest of the day smelling like I do. Get outside. Move your body for ten minutes. Just wiggle your arm around for ten minutes. It's gonna hurt.
SPEAKER_08Jumping jacks.
SPEAKER_02That's too much.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02Sleep also helps.
SPEAKER_08While moving your body.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. If you like vibrate in your sleep. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Then you're moving your body and sleeping at the same time.
SPEAKER_08So cold sleep.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. Shivering.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Sleep outside.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You will think of something other than what is currently on your mind.
SPEAKER_08Sad about other things.
SPEAKER_02Yes. That's not the worst idea.
SPEAKER_08No.
SPEAKER_02Okay. You don't have to feel motivated first. Well, think tiny maintenance tasks, not a grand self-improvement. Blah blah blah blah blah blah. Number five. Give the sadness somewhere to go.
SPEAKER_07What?
SPEAKER_02Give the sadness somewhere to go.
SPEAKER_07Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02Get it a bus ticket and say goodbye.
SPEAKER_07Bye-bye.
SPEAKER_02Number six. Ask what do I need? I feel like you already wrote this down. But yes, pudding was the answer to that. Sometimes sadness is asking for rest, comfort, connection, change, grief, forgiveness, boundaries are simply time. That's too much. It's much more that's a much more useful question than how do I stop feeling this? Okay, so you need to figure out what your physical needs are.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Number seven is know when sadness needs more help. If it becomes persistent, overwhelming, interferes with everyday life, or you feel hopeless or unsafe, don't white knuckle it alone. A mental health professional can help you work out what's underneath it and what might actually help.
SPEAKER_08Or you can watch inside out.
SPEAKER_02That's a good one.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Inside out. The Pixar.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Inside Out. Then you can figure out your feelings.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. See how they affect each other and everything.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Watch Mr. Rogers.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02So the short version is feel it, name it, care for your body, connect with someone, take one small useful action and give it time. We will get over this.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Everyone else will too.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Eventually you'll forget it even happened. That's not what it said, that's what I said.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Next question that
Finding Closure When Life Moves On
SPEAKER_02I put in.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02How to find closure on something that you have had for several years. This does not just go for ending a podcast. It could be a relationship. Because I feel like closure in a relationship is really difficult to get. Stop looking at me.
SPEAKER_08Are you planning on something?
SPEAKER_02I'm breaking up with you. End the podcast. I don't want to see you again. Once I'm done working with you, I'm done. I don't want anything else. Yeah. We can continue watching movies alone. I don't even like you.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_02No, it was just something that I came up with. You want an episode? I'm giving you an episode.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You want something better?
SPEAKER_05Do it.
SPEAKER_02I'm getting really dramatic. Yeah. Here's your crash course on closure.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02Number one. Calm down. No. Stop waiting for the perfect ending. 200. 100.
SPEAKER_08200. 200. That's the perfect ending.
SPEAKER_02That's the perfect ending. Yeah. Or 666 was supposed to be the perfect ending. Or 665.
SPEAKER_08But we never got there. No, we we never even got a third of that.
SPEAKER_02No. No.
SPEAKER_08Oh well.
SPEAKER_02That's okay. Closure often doesn't come from getting the apology, explanation, conversation, or outcome you wanted. Sometimes the closure is I may never get the answer I wanted, but I know enough to choose what I do next. Hmm. That's difficult to get through though. I don't think that's enough for me.
SPEAKER_07No.
SPEAKER_02No. Number two. Separate what happened from what you hoped would happen. So what's happening now is that we're ending on 200. And we hoped to continue 665. 665.
SPEAKER_08But yeah.
SPEAKER_02So now we are taking out our journal again.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Take a piece of paper and make two columns. What actually happened, what I wish would happen.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. I have a question though.
SPEAKER_02Please.
SPEAKER_08About us two. When when uh after the podcast, are we still gonna talk about the movies?
SPEAKER_02We can. We don't have to record it, and we don't have to pretend we're recording either.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We can talk normally.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We don't have to start every conversation with hello, my name is Lauren. Welcome to Roasty Toasty Ghostie.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Like we uh currently do.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_08Every time we meet.
SPEAKER_02Hello, and welcome to Roasty Toasty Ghosty. My name is Lauren.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And you are Matias, and now we're going to talk about movies. Would you like to movie on?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that's what we do. And like every time we meet. We can talk like normal people. Yeah. Then after 200.
SPEAKER_02You'll have to learn how to talk like a nor normal normal purpose. Normal. Normal purpose. Norman burping.
SPEAKER_08Normal purple.
SPEAKER_02Normal purple.
SPEAKER_08We can try.
SPEAKER_02We can try. It'll take time, but you'll get there. Yeah. I think.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, we we have a habit now.
SPEAKER_02Right. I don't want the habit anymore.
SPEAKER_08No, we need to kick the habit.
SPEAKER_02I need to kick this habit. Okay. Anyway, number three, let yourself grieve the investment. You if you've carried something for several years, you're not only letting go of the thing itself, you're potentially grieving the time you invested, who you were during that period. We've been several people throughout this period, I think. Possibilities that never happened. Like, oh, you know, having followers. The version of yourself who kept hoping, hoping, and hoping. And it just never happened.
SPEAKER_08Hoping and hoping.
SPEAKER_02Hoping that something more would come out of this, but it didn't. And the meaning you attach to it. Okay. Don't shame yourself for taking a long time to let go. Duration doesn't make the feelings ridiculous, but I guess it kind of does. Anyway, number four, decide what the experience means. You don't have to decide that it was worth it or a waste of time. Where are we leaning here? Worth it or a waste of time?
SPEAKER_08I don't know. Like you said with the last one, we did invest a lot in this. Time and some money too. Yeah. Without getting anything, really. Right. Not much, but uh I I don't know. What do you feel?
SPEAKER_02Is it has it been a waste of time or I think looking back, despite the drama, the arguments and everything that has come out of this, I think it's been fun.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. And I feel like we've hopefully grown because of the drama as people.
SPEAKER_02Sometimes that happens.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, sometimes I do grow.
SPEAKER_02Drama.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and pudding.
SPEAKER_02And pudding. You weirdo. Okay. So um you can say to yourself, This mattered to me. It affected me. I learned things from it. And it doesn't have to continue. Pudding is really good though.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Number five, give yourself an ending. Take that however you want to.
SPEAKER_08Give yourself a hinging. Do we want it to be sad or happy?
SPEAKER_02Give yourself a happy ending.
SPEAKER_08Oh, uh you do that on your own. You know, I tried that before, but it doesn't work. It just makes things worse. That makes me sad that I can't do it.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. Okay.
Building A Future To Look Forward To
SPEAKER_02Next, how to find positivity for the future.
SPEAKER_08We're still gonna talk about the movies.
SPEAKER_02We're still talking about movies.
SPEAKER_08I mean, we're still gonna do this, just not record it. Right. Or edit it.
SPEAKER_02We don't need to have to find other things to talk about for the second half.
SPEAKER_08Exactly. That's always been a struggle for us. Struggle.
SPEAKER_02So you don't necessarily have to find positivity for the future. When you've been carrying something for years, trying to force yourself to feel optimistic can actually make things heavier. A better goal is to find possibility first. Positivity can come later. Start with a smaller question. Instead of how can I believe my future will be great? Try what could make my future a little better than today. Okay. Uh don't require yourself to know what comes next. You can be uncertain about your future and still move toward it. You don't need a five-year plan. Sometimes the next step is enough. Think breadcrumbs, not a complete map. Number two, make room for things you haven't experienced yet. One of the traps of long-term sadness is that the past starts feeling like evidence about the future. This is how things have been, so this is how they'll always be. How many times have you thought that? I mean I know that I have had this thought before.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02This is how it is, this is how it always will be. And that's just I'm doomed for life. Things are not gonna get better.
SPEAKER_08I uh you know, I I do think that sometimes, but in a way, I'm kinda right. Because I'm I'm really stuck with whatever I am, you know.
SPEAKER_02Sometimes you have to take that risk and do something else. Yeah, this is the episode that's gonna make you sad talking about sadness.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I feel like uh this is get getting deep now for me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah. Here we go. Okay? There are people you haven't met yet, places you haven't seen, versions of yourself you haven't become, and experiences you literally cannot imagine because you haven't encountered them. Your current emotional landscape is not a reliable map of the entire territory. You are not limited to who you are right now.
SPEAKER_08No. So open eye says that I need to get out there, meet people, do things, do things.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So I should do that.
SPEAKER_02You should do that. Go outside, meet someone, do something else.
SPEAKER_08Do that.
SPEAKER_02Do that.
SPEAKER_08Do that someone.
SPEAKER_02Do that, do that. Number three, give yourself give yourself to look yourself forward to. Hello, dyslexia.
SPEAKER_08That was the most complete sentence I ever heard.
SPEAKER_02Nothing has ever actually made sense until now.
SPEAKER_08No, exactly. Give yourself that's why we need to to end this podcast.
SPEAKER_02I uh my reading capabilities are going downwards.
SPEAKER_08Or are they getting better?
SPEAKER_02I don't think so.
SPEAKER_08No, okay, maybe not.
SPEAKER_02Give yourself something to look forward to. A trip, a concert, new hobby, restaurant you've wanted to try, a book, a weekend somewhere, a project. Gives you some form of positivity, something very exciting to look forward to. Number four, build evidence that life can change. Do the things that you want to do, basically. Things can be different. I feel like I'm repeating myself. I'm going to the next one.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't care anymore. How to not feel miserable for the rest of your life due to the lack of this thing that you ended.
SPEAKER_08Was that your question? Yeah. Sounds like a Lauren question. So dramatic.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so how to not feel miserable for the lack of your ending due to the life.
SPEAKER_08Wow. I think we need to call an ambulance or something. I this just sounds like you're suicidal at this point.
SPEAKER_02Basically, what open eyes is saying is you're gonna be okay. Okay. That was a quick idea because of lack of time. We're just gonna say that.
SPEAKER_08Okay, so yeah. What uh we can tell the listener what if we learned today? Yeah, the listener we have is that everything's gonna be okay.
SPEAKER_02You'll be fine.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, you'll get over it. Even though we're not here. Or we are here, but we're here.
SPEAKER_02We're not here.
SPEAKER_08You're not gonna hear us.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_08But uh it's gonna be okay.
SPEAKER_02Alright.
Cards Against Humanity And Wrap-Up
SPEAKER_02Well, as we reach the end of this episode, please pick a card from the cards of uh humanity. Cards against humanity, actually.
SPEAKER_08Pick a card. It sounds like a magic trick.
SPEAKER_02Pick a card, any card of what could possibly be ruining your life right now.
SPEAKER_08I'm gonna pick one from here.
SPEAKER_02Pick out of the list of things that you have in front of you.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Well, what's the question?
SPEAKER_02What is currently ruining your life?
SPEAKER_08Landmines.
SPEAKER_02That is a problem. You never know. You never know when they're gonna blow up.
SPEAKER_08No, when you're stepping on one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you never know when you're stepping on one. Alright, I have. What is currently ruining my life is cuddling. I think. Oh yeah. I hate it. Please don't touch me. You do? Okay. No. But if I have to have a backup, it's gonna be suicidal thoughts.
SPEAKER_08Or okay. Well, if maybe those are like connected.
SPEAKER_02Cuddling gives me suicidal thoughts, I think. Um That's what it is. It's a problem. Yeah, you know, uh, but I'm getting through it because I don't actually have suicidal thoughts. I'm okay. Just don't worry about me, please.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_02People listening. I'm okay.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. You're not worried that I'm worried about it.
SPEAKER_02No, you're fine. You don't care. But the people listening need to know that I'm okay and it's all a joke. Everything is funny if you make it funny.
SPEAKER_08Everything is funny.
SPEAKER_02Right. Are you out of sips? Because I am.
SPEAKER_08Yes, I am. And that means we're all out of episode. Would you like to wrap this up? Let's wrap it up.
SPEAKER_02Cool. Thank you for listening to this episode. We uh will be back with another one next Tuesday, as usual. Follow us if you want to. Don't bother, because it's like you're only gonna have like three or four more episodes to go. Are we doing a live to wrap this up at the end?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, maybe maybe.
SPEAKER_02One last live Mad Libs for the fun of it.
SPEAKER_08Was that gonna be the 180 live?
SPEAKER_02180 live mad libs, because we skipped 185.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_02How funny are we? Oh my god. Date is to be determined, but we will see you there.
SPEAKER_08That will happen after 200.
SPEAKER_02Right. Uh, date TBD, uh, thank you for listening.
SPEAKER_08Thank you.
SPEAKER_02See you next time.
SPEAKER_08Yes.
SPEAKER_02Bye.
SPEAKER_08Bye-bye.
